Good to know! I figured that the elf/hobbit group could go front-left and Angus and an invisible friend could go front-right, scouting a broader flank and keeping 90' away from each other. This exposes Angus and the invisible friend as another small group, and my question is - to what benefit? Would the benefit/abilities of Angus as a Ranger allow him to better pathfind than the general approach of the others? Is it worth it?Zhym wrote:Rangers get a surprise bonus, though it's not as good as what Hellebore gets as a halfling. Angus's chance of being surprised is 1/6 and he surprises on 3-6. That doesn't depend BtB on wearing non-metal armor, although of course AleBelly's rules might differ. The real problem is that Angus isn't a halfling or elf and would kill Hellebore's surprise bonus (unless making him invisible would let the others keep their surprise bonus?).

What do we know about going to Sambords from here? Looking at the player map, Town No Go is directly in between. Do we need to skirt it on either side? Or do we go more safely to Alleborg first anyway, and then swing south toward it?

I think we have got to get this message to the City leaders before we do much of anything else.onlyme wrote:What do we know about going to Sambords from here? The Lone City in the Wildlands --- Lorilee Ravenholme
Re: OOC III
Hey folks. Unless AleBelly objects, can we keep our discussion over what to do about the message in-character? Angus's reasons for wanting to go straightaway to Sambord are IC reasons, and his response to the newbies wanting to tell him what to do is also best expressed IC.

Re: OOC III
Sorry, Khahl-Ehl wants to take the message to Alleborg. Again, if the raven is slain by an arrow, the message and our position fall into enemy hands. He's not telling anyone that they must join him. Just as he would expect them not to stop him from going.
Khahl-Ehl can memorize it, or make a copy in Elvish, as a safeguard should he be killed. He and Lorilee made it safely here without incident. It shouldn't take long. He'll go alone if he must, but would prefer company. He'll meet up with you afterwards.
He still needs to know when you guys found it, so he can let Alleborg know how long ago the request might have been sent. Thanks.
Also: Anyone inclined to lend a horse or two for this effort?

Hey all
Apologies for the delay - I'm attending the tournament games and have family in town, which has affected posting more than I anticipated. I'll send an update tomorrow.

Hah! I knew it!
Well, I didn't know it, but that was my guess. Zorroroaster has the PM to prove it.
Enjoy!

It's a shame these posts don't come with sound. Angus's latest move would be a great place to add a Wilhelm scream. Just add a cartoonish "thump" at the end.
I'm kind of curious what those modifiers are.AleBelly wrote:I will use the critical hit table from this post (originally taken from a 1980 issue of Dragon magazine): http://www.epicwords.com/attachments/9232. I do have some modifiers, but will post those later if there’s interest.

Smile when you say that, boy.
It's confirmed: Angus somehow came across a magic short bow with a unique enchantment: +2 underground, -gazillion outdoors.

The modifiers will ensure that, say, a kobold can't kill a level 5 fighter with a dagger poke. Judgement call-type of things.

Re: OOC III
Putting flying creatures to sleep is an interesting thing. Seems that they would plummet from the sky, taking the typical fall damage - but the blow upon hitting the ground would wake them up. If Arnulf sleeps them at 60', they will fall 20', taking 2d6 damage. Just want to let you know the outcome of the spell.
Even if they do survive the fall, they will take a round to reorient themselves.

AFK Alert--- (I didnt see a thread dedicated to them...)
I will be blissfully ignorant of the internets from the 25th - Apr 4th. Please NPC Dandelion as necessary.
1) make sure she is the prettiest half-orc in the room/area.
2) kill ugly things (present party members excepted)
3)survive and advance.

She was trying to cover the bases...
And for anyone whose PC hasn't relayed back what she really looks like, imagine a mix of Miss Piggy, Blair from Facts of Life, Prince Herbert and my former office admin.

Re: OOC III
Ok, story time.
When I first created Arnulf, I was grieving the loss of Eduard pretty hard and decided to play a PC that was the polar opposite. He's been a ton of fun to play.
Shortly after getting Arnulf off the ground, I found myself in another PbP game and rolled up a new character there. He's a half-Orc fighter with delusions of grandeur. I named him Bronn Arnulfsen.
Yep, son of Arnulf. Although the games are in no way connected, I thought it was fun to name him in a way that suggested Arnulf would eventually figure out what social graces were and meet a woman, settle down, etc.
I thought it was fun to imagine how in the world a nebbish, parents-basement-dwelling idiot like Arnulf might ever snare any woman. Period. And I left it at that.
Fast forward to the arrival of Dandelion and suddenly I feel like Arnulf is in an episode of How I Met Your Mother. Could she be the one?
So yeah, that's my story.
Disclaimer: I have never been a fan of romantic role playing, nor am I suggesting that this be cause for such! I just find it really funny.
