Chapter 3: The Monastery at Dimwater
Re: Chapter 3: The Monastery at Dimwater
Hex the halfling illusionist will dive aside nimbly, slashing at any that come close with his daggers.
Main hand dagger [1d20] = 10 : Damage [1d4] = 4 Off hand dagger [1d20-1] = 17-1 = 16 damage [1d4] = 4

P.T. Codswallop, halfling impresario:
Phineas regarded the corpse. "Hmm. Now what would leave marks of such unusual peculiarity?"
The dog faced man reminded him of someone.
When the flying rats appeared, he loosed two un-poisoned arrows.
Phineas: Bow: To Hit: [1d20+3] = 4+3 = 7, damage: [1d6] = 6
Phineas: Bow: To Hit: [1d20+3] = 1+3 = 4, damage: [1d6] = 5
"The humidity must've temporarily warped my bow!"

Aric Ingloriak of the Iron Tribes
Aric shakes his head at the halfling's recklessness rushing into the structure.
He half-heartedly hurls a gnoll spear at a demon-bird.
Spear attack (THACO 20) [1d20+3] = 6+3 = 9 Damage SM [1d6] = 6

Wil strikes at a bat with an open handed palm strike:
To hit with Open Hand [1d20] = 1; Damage S/M/L: [1d3] = 2
So for a critical miss with no weapon, do i punch myself?

Stirge Attack: Round One
After Hexalon opens the dovecote door, the five stirges rise into the air in a flurry. They circle the dovecote in search of warmblooded prey and hone in on the halfling below.
In a swarm, they dive down upon Hexalon. Three of the creatures fail to connect with the wiley halfling as he realizes what he has unleashed and dives for cover; however, two latch firmly onto the illusionist. Their sharp proboscises easily penetrate the magician's colorful robes and hold fast to drink deeply of his blood (4 HP damage total).
Hexalon slashes at one of the creatures with his dagger and slices into its side, but it continues to greedily drink. He frantically tries to reach the other stirge but is unable, for it is fixed firmly onto his back.
The companions stare in astonishment, and those with ranged weapons try to respond.
Osprey, apparently still a little woozy from the effects of the bloodgrub poison, fires an arrow and misses.
In all the excitement, Phin and Kragg fumble with their weapons and are unable to assist Hexalon.
Aric questions the halfling's heedless actions, and the barbarian half-heartedly launches one of his newly acquired spears. The stirge he was aiming for quickly flits out of the way.
Wil, Luna, and Yon rush to the aid of Hex.
Actions for Round Two!

Kragg fumbles for his weapon and tries to aid in the stirge fight as best he can when the creatures are within range for a melee strike.

Yon tries to assist his friend the Halfling, whom he so recently thought was a gnome. He brings his club down on the thing in an attempt to knock it off Hex. "Blood sucking vermin!" he cries.

Osprey Palearctic, elven fighter/magic-user
Osprey sees several team members head for Hex's plight so he keeps his focus on the other stirges still in the air. Aiming, he gives flight to another arrow.
To hit with LONGBOW [1d20+1] = 11+1 = 12; Damage S/M [1d6] = 5; Damage L [1d6] = 3
Doh! Thank you for the reminder.
Second bow attack of the round.
To hit with LONGBOW [1d20+1] = 3+1 = 4; Damage S/M [1d6] = 4; Damage L [1d6] = 1

P.T. Codswallop, halfling impresario:
Phineas steps back and expertly fires more un-poisoned arrows at the airborne pests, to avoid hitting the halfling that released them.
"Grubs! Bats! What's next in our daring onslaught against the natural animals that have overtaken this abandoned property? Deer? Raccoon?" the little city dweller joked, thinking they should be rolling in church diamonds right now.
Phineas: Bow: To Hit: [1d20+3] = 19+3 = 22, damage: [1d6] = 2
Phineas: Bow: To Hit: [1d20+3] = 14+3 = 17, damage: [1d6] = 3

Swiftsword charges and thrusts at the stirge on Hex's back, goring and sliding it off with his sword.
Bastard sword attack (THACO 20) [1d20+3] = 11+3 = 14 Damage SM [2d4+4] = 5+4 = 9, L [2d8] = 10. Charge bonus not included.

Stirge Attack: Round Two
The stirges attached to the flailing Hexalon continue to feed, and the halfling's movements eventually slow, then cease all together as he plummets into unconsciousness (Blood drain -5 HP total; Hex is now at -3 HP).
The three stirges that initially missed the illusionist follow through with their flight pattern, arcing around the dovecote then circling back to once again bombard their prey.
Seeing others of their kind already feasting upon a warm body, two of the three creatures land upon the prone and unconscious halfling; their proboscises jab into Hexalon's flesh (-6 HP damage total; Hex is now at -9 HP).
The stirge that did not attack Hexalon attempts to swoop down on Luna. The cleric fends off the strange insect-bat-like creature and tries to swing at it as it passes by. His aim is off, and he misses.
Kragg rushes forward and attempts to strike the elusive creature with his scimitar; he also misses.
Wil tries to strike one of the bloodthirsty creatures attached to Hex; however, the monk miscalculates his palm-strike, loses his balance, and ungracefully stumbles forward.
Yon swings his club down upon one of the stirges adhering to Hexalon. The club lands solidly and pulverizes the creature, effectively reducing it to a pulpy, gory mass.
Osprey fires two arrows at the stirge that attacked Luna as it wheels away. One arrow sails wide to the right, but the other missile expertly pins the creature's wing. Phineas finishes the pest off with two shots of his own, and it spirals to the earth, dead.
Swiftsword stands true to his namesake as he skewers one the stirges plaguing Hexalon. His sword passes easily through its abdomen, and he flings the creature's corpse from his blade in angry disgust.

Leaving his longbow in one hand, Osprey draws his sword and tries to kill one of the two remaining stirges.
To hit with LONGSWORD [1d20+1] = 1+1 = 2; Damage S/M [1d8] = 7; Damage L [1d12] = 11
*sigh*

Yon, seeing Hex fall into unconsciousness, frantically swings at one of the stirges still gorging on his friend's blood. "That blood belongs to HEX! Give it back!" he cries.
