Unspeakable Oaths (ooc and questions ll)
Re: Unspeakable Oaths (ooc and questions ll)
Sorry, Chub.
Thanks, Fulci, for the heads up. Have a great weekend.

Sorry about that, Zhym. Thanks for bringing this up.Zhym wrote:FWIW, despite the DM spoiler notes, it wasn't clear to me that the previous round was a surprise segment.
I struggled with how Beswill would be surprised by the talkative, light-bearing party and hit upon the notion of him being shocked to see his killers again. It had a painful element of the tragic and horrible, so I loved it right away. I wrote to that and called out the Surprise Round in the DM Notes:
- Inferno wrote: Surprise: Party: [1d6] = 4, Monster: [1d6] = 2 Party surprises Beswill
Frankly, I'm not convinced we should back-call last round. Grothnak's actions made perfect sense at the time. I don't see him squeezing past the axe-throwing Telkis (after lobbying to be in the second rank behind Telkis for every combat) to move away from Pelias' circle of protection (after scolding Pelias for moving away from Grothnak), to get between between Telkis' flying axe and its intended target.

So how about this? Grothnak "held" his action last round, and will get 2 attacks on Beswill this round, using your two existing rolls.

I've never been big on ax murderer movies, except for this one:

And this scene from John Carpenter's The Thing that seems inspired by Kubrick's The Shining:

"You're a dead man, MacReady!" -Childs.

Our DM's screen name may turn out to be appropriate to the coming events in this game, describing nicely the fate awaiting most of our characters.

Next time a building gets torched in this game, we should make sure we are, you know, not inside

Burn, baby, burn.
Given that she's at 1 hit point(!), here are some rules interpretations that may be useful in this situation:

Great. Avril makes her save and may act normally this round.dmw71 wrote:Paralyzation save (10): [1d20] = 11[/spoiler]

- -Withdrawing from combat: Opponents get benefits to attack you if you retreat from melee UNLESS an ally takes your spot to cover your retreat with an attack.
-A 5' wide hall is single file for combat, but people may pass each other with the movement segment of their action. They just can't fight side by side.

Ah, saw this after I posted that Telkis knew he could not get around Pelias. That can be interpreted to mean he knows Pelias will be cross if he squeezes around and blocks him for combat. So very cross. I

Ha.
To clarify, you could only squeeze by with Pelias' 'permission,' otherwise you're passing him while he's fighting in a 5' wide space. I hope that's clear.

Gotcha. That's what I figured. I don't think Pelias would/could allow that when there's evil to be vanquished.

Correct. Pelias would give that gnome a kick right up the arse!

Hey OM,
Bo's carrying a spear, shield and a lantern.
Did he place the lantern on the ground just before he attacked, or did you have another preference?
Thanks.

Inferno did Hoom see a cemetery in town? If so where on the map is it located?
Re: Unspeakable Oaths (ooc and questions ll)
Yes, he whistled past the graveyard on the way into town: viewtopic.php?p=209303#p209303
Here's the village map: viewtopic.php?p=209299#p209299
The cemetery is west of 4, on the north side of the Hochoch Road.

Ya, I didn't think of that. Sorry.Inferno wrote:Hey OM,

I guess he could/would have set it down before attacking.

Hi,
I’m traveling for work and may not be able to post. I'll be back on Wednesday.
Have a good week.

Re: Unspeakable Oaths (ooc and questions ll)
I'm back.
Once AleBelly posts for Pelias, I can do a full DM update.
Dave: yes, X3 ran east from you, where the tunnel comes to a juncture. If X3 turned northeast, it would go toward the dungeon with the hanging iron cages where Hoom and Mouser were standing guard. There was also a tunnel south that was unexplored by Avril's group.
Chub: Telkis needs a light source to look down the tunnels and check their slope. Does he borrow Ingrid's lantern, or use something else?
Thanks.

Liar, liar, escape route on fire. Bo was long gone before Mouser doused the door with oil.OGRE MAGE wrote:BoFulci wrote:Ingrid turns to Bo: "I thought you stayed back with the Mouser and Hoom! What happened?"
I......well.......I came to look for you when the thieves started to throw oil all over everything. I swear that I will never understand the thoughts of those folk. What was that damn thing? Last I remember, I was plunging my spear through that disgusting creature. Where did it go off to? Are there any more of them down here?
Re: Unspeakable Oaths (ooc and questions ll)
Clearly Bo is still a little discombobulated from his brush with death.

Well, in all honesty, I didn't actually go back and check that before posting.

Maybe he could smell the oil from the tunnel?
