Keilif respectfully declines Vhing's offer for a sandwich; however, he is more than happy to take a swig (or two) from the wineskin to take the edge off of the recent events. "How are you feeling, friend?," he inquires of the half-orc and graciously thanks the man. He then proceeds to help Jonas prepare the torch for the fireplace.Stirling wrote:Vhing Cranepool

"oh I feel fine, a little bloody maybe. Still, much better than those goblins do. Nothing some vinegary wine and prison rations can't fix. Perhaps a chicken drumstick would go down well, or a chilli rat kebab. Don't suppose you have one of those in your pack? Salted fish fingers, shark fin chewy bar, jellied eel...can you magick any of those up? " Vhing inquiries of the two seafaring 'fishmages', more in hope than expectancy.

Keilif roots around in his pack to retrieve his rations of dried fish. He offers some to Vhing adding, "All I have is this dried fish I prepared before leaving Saltmarsh. You're more than welcome to some. A little salty, but it will beat down your hunger for a while."

Vhing will take the fish and break it in two, sharing a portion with Shoo-Fly in the corridor, leaving Keiliff and Jonas to torch the remaining webs and explore the hearth and chimney.
He'll look into the goblin room. Should be Alec, Ben and Ermulf in there. He'll toss them his wineskin,"A toast to the victors. You should all take a bow and spear each as well."

Re: 1) The Haunted House
The Search Continues
Vhing uses a gob of the webs as a medical treatment for his neck holes. A quick torch is rigged up in the drawing room and used to burn the mass of spiderwebs away from the fireplace opening. They burn away easily, giving off a sickening smell in the already stale air. They are eventually burned away as far as you can reach but, the webs seem to fill the chimney all the way to the roof and several still remain above your reach.
Vhing moves across the hall again to offer the others a celebratory drink. He tells them to take up the arms of the fallen goblins. The spears are nothing more than sharpened sticks and the bows are very crudely made. They might work in a pinch though. spear/javelin 1-3 dam. crude bow/arrows 1-4 dam.
Burly discusses the benefits of crust before calling to Jervis to join him in assisting Doubtful, who has gone off alone to check the kitchen.
The room is dirty and damp, with patches of grey mold and cobwebs all over the floor, walls, and ceiling. In the corner to your left is some cooking equipment with a chimney above it. Next to it, under the window, is a cracked and discolored stone sink. To the right of the sink a small closed wooden cupboard that is fixed to the wall. Against the far wall is a closed door and another rotting, rickety stairway that leads up to the second floor. Dusty broken dishes and other garbage is strewn about the room.
Doubtful begins going through the room, gathering pots and pans. He sees no indication of recent use around the disgusting room. With a quick glance at the stairs he determines that they look passable enough.
Doubtful, Burly, Jervis? Please include a hard Int check (4d6) with your next post. Thanks.

I'm assuming the kitchen is room #9, correct? If so...
Burly pokes around through the debris, not really sure what he's looking for. He walks over to the closed door on the western wall and tries to open it.

Doubtful, Burly, and Jervis continue their search of the moldy kitchen. (yes, 9) Nothing of value is spotted. The stairs leading up are rotten but look safe enough to traverse.
Burly tries the knob on the western door, it is not locked. Doubtful is just about to have a look into the cupboard.

With the fireplace now partially cleansed of webs, Jónas examines it for lose bricks and hidden places.
If nothing is found, he goes out to the main hall. Which rooms are left unchecked as of yet?

Re: 1) The Haunted House
Jonas crawls into the fireplace with the boat pole at the ready. He finds a loose brick inside, just like the one Keilif found across the hall. This time there is a tiny box hidden in the void behind the brick.
In his excitement to retrieve the hidden mystery box, Jonas just barely notices that a hideous giant spider is lowering itself from the gobs of remaining webs above. He is able to bat the thing away at the last second to avoid being bitten but, the thing hisses and jumps back in for another attack inside the cramped chimney.
Actions!
Only Jonas can attack, obviously.

Jónas may not be heroic & brave, but he's got the smarts! Startled by the giant spider (why are all animals of the giant variety around these parts?!), he tries to fend it off and keep it at a distance with the 10' pole, and back out from the fireplace, so that the others might try to squash the arachnid.
Jónas wants to forfeit his attack, to move away and concentrate on defending himself from those itsy-bitsy spidey mandibles.

Re: 1) The Haunted House
Can I get a normal Dex check for that move, please. (3d6)
Success will indicate that you are able to drop and exit while still keeping the thing at bay. If it pursues, Keilif and Jonas will be able to attack it. You can go ahead and make those rolls too right away.
If you want to grab the box on your way out as well, make it a 4d6 roll.

Out of the frying pan... hopefully into a more defendable position!!
Normal Dex. (17) check: [3d6] = 10
Attack with 10' pole: [1d20] = 5, damage [1d4] = 2

Jonas smartly forgets the treasure and gets himself out of the danger zone.
The spider indeed follows close behind, it's nasty fangs dripping with who knows what manner of deadly poison. It rears back for another attack.
Keilif can get a swing in now and anyone else near the hall can attack in the next round.
