I realize that we are all excited to get the action moving in this new game but, can some of you try to keep your actions limited to what you could actually do in one round or so please?
Ben the whaler/sailor enters the yard and heads around the right side of the manor. There is nothing to be seen in any of the windows.

Jonas and Burly take the time to soak in the sights and fresh air of the sea. Jonas walks right up to the edge of the cliff and looks down. He sees no beach below, just rocky cliffs that have been eroded away and undermined by the never ending bombardment of waves over the many centuries. Jonas then moves towards the action in the front corner of the yard.

Burly, Vhing, and Danny are determined to take a closer look inside the well. There is no bucket or rope, just a circular fieldstone rim that stands a few feet above the ground. Keilif grabbing some rope on his way out of town suddenly seems like a great idea. After an exchange of some equipment, Keilif follows Jonas as he heads towards the action by the wall. Doubtful keeps a close eye on all the ongoing proceedings. Danny gets rigged up and begins his descent into the stone shaft of the well with the help of his half-orc buddy.

Burly gives an almost prophetic warning to Danny as he descends.

On the other side of the large yard, Ermulf looks on silently, still near the gate, not sure which group to follow.

Alec the dwarf guesses correctly as he walks over and jams the end of his crowbar into the dirt mound. He suddenly hears all manner of commotion and loud squealing coming from the nest. Three giant rats scurry out of the mound and rush in to attack the aggressive dwarf.

Actions!

Jervis, Jonas, Keilif, Ermulf, and obviously Alec can attack this round. Doubtful can see what is happening but can't get there in time to attack. Ben, Burly, Vhing, and Danny have no idea that the others are now engaged.

Vhing tied the knott's on the rope at 12" intervals with a piton on the end to weigh it down. This way, Danny can estimate the depth of the water he is descending close to, it was 15'ft to the water level.

Vhing hopes the lantern illuminates the water so Danny can see any entrance or coins hidden below.

Keilif Zythanthus:

Growing up around the docks of Saltmarsh, Keilif is no stranger to the large wharf rats that scurry and scramble about the yard; however, he is in utter shock at seeing the immensity of these vermin. He screams out to the others, hoping to be heard over the crashing waves, "Help!" while swinging his mallet to connect with the nearest rodent.

Jónas Gillman

Jónas screams as well, but not to alert the others, but simply because he is startled. Luckily, he doesn't go into shock and reacts quickly, pulling out his knife and slashing towards the closest rat.

Doubtful

Hissing to Ben, Back with the group now! We're under attack!

Doubtful then races to the commotion by the wall to help, pulling his club and readying his grip. Sparing a glance toward the well, Doubtful wants to make sure noone leaves our spelunker unattended.

Ermulf Jormundson

Ermulf snaps out of his daydream he had fallen into of being wealthy and noble enough to own a grand manor such as this one, at the battle cries of his partners.

For Glory! he shouts as he charges forward at the rats, remembering his grandfather's tale of Sir Gilgalad, who had slew an evil rat lord in a dark wood in his home land, and who had cried those very words as he led the charge into the wood.

Pitchfork raised, he tries to spear a rat.

Rat Battle
Round 1

Vhing and company continue their assault on the well, oblivious to the happenings on the other side of the house. The light from the lantern in the well shaft doesn't reveal anything hidden until Danny is almost down to the water level. He notices that the water is only about three feet deep below him in the well and that there is a submerged metal pail at the bottom of the shaft. He doesn't see any grates or coins.

Nordbo, can I get a d20 roll from you in your next post please?

Ben continues his walk around the house, looking at the many windows. He barely hears Doubtful behind him shout something about an attack and then run back towards the gate area.

Back at the rat pile, the adventurers commoners start out their first taste of combat pretty much as expected.

Jervis proudly rushes at one of the rats, swinging his ax and missing it completely. Keilif shouts out for help from the others as he too misses a rat with his crab mallet. Jonas follows suit, shouting and also missing with his fishing knife.

Alec the dwarf continues the groups trend with a swing of his crowbar. The poor dwarf is surrounded by the squealing, aggressive creatures and all three of them try to bite at him. One misses completely, the other bites into his leather apron but it causes him no harm, and the third gnashes into the dwarfs leg with its filthy maw. (2 damage) Alec let's out a painful shout and swears in a language that you don't understand as he prepares to once again whack-a-rat.

Ermulf hears the shouts of his comrades and finally snaps out of his funk. He channels the courage of his grandfather as he rushes in to try to skewer one of the huge vermin. His pitchfork jab completely impales one of them, killing it instantly. He stands there for a second with a look of utter satisfaction on his face and a rat the size of a dog still stuck in the tines of his makeshift weapon.

There still seems to be some movement happening inside the nest but no more of the creatures show themselves.....yet.

Readjusting his grip on the mallet, Keilif steadies himself and swings with all his might at the nearest rodent.

Vhing Cranepool

Vhing ties off the rope and looks down into the shaft at anything Danny is grappling with. Vhing looks at Burly and winks, "On the farm, ma taught us boyz to piss straight by aiming at the frogs in the creek. She also said that all men are born equal but I reckon some of us are just born a little more equal than others."Vhing undoes his trouser 'fly' buttons and taking his 'firemans' hose' (as he calls it...), Vhing pisses into the well shaft, over the head of Danny ( not on his head, over it), aiming at the submerged bucket and any frogs hopping around the bottom or hidden in the stone crevices. "Move over Danny boy, Burly and me are going to get the toads in the hole."

Vhing keeps one eye on the 'stream' directing a long wee to splash the frogs if any, signing off with a graffiti 'V' sign; and another eye on Burly, just checking that yes orcs' are born a little more equal. "Good job the dwarf ain't here cus he'd need a stone to stand on just to reach over the edge,"he jokes to Burly.

Doubtful

As soon as Doubtful reaches the group he will try to quietly urge the group to slowly back up to see if the rats will disengage once the group is far enough away from the nest. While not getting too close himself to the rats or the nest, Doubtful tries to ease into a flanking position (club still at hand) so he could attack a rat's blind side if necessary.....or perhaps try a cantrip if there are a few seconds of relative calm.

Danny Cruester

Danny Cruester, d20 roll: [1d20] = 13

thinks he hears Vhing up at the surface exclaim a sudden urge to urinate at non-existing frogs, then suddenly, horrified realises that this is actually happening. To avoid being sprayed by Vhing's hallucinatory kinkiness, Danny quickly takes a deep breath (if needed) and immerses himself enough to reach for the pail, then quickly drags it to one side (if possible) so that he will be out of Vhing's target range. Can Danny see if anything's in the pail ?

Jónas Gillman

Jónas is a bit disappointed that his first attack wasn't an epic-worthy swashbuckling success, but, well, bad things happen. Right next to him Jervis delivers an awe-inspiring blow with his axe! "Good one!" he shouts... if only he didn't...

Not really needing to piss, Burly still laughs at Vhing's brazenness, and as most teenage boys, he can't help but take a glance at the half-orc's manhood. He laughs again at the joke on the dwarf. "My Ma is rather short and my Pa always tells the story of one day when she came over to visit him (before they were married). He had been traveling and they hadn't seen each other in a few weeks, so when she came over to the house, she was so excited to see him that she took off running for the house...and ran right under the porch!"

Burly snorts and chuckles, leaning against the well for support. "Sure do miss my Ma and Pa."
Winter is coming...

Ermulf Jormundson

After victoriously raising the speared rat into the with his pitchfork, Ermulf tosses it to the side like a bushel of hay and takes stock of his surroundings, no one else seems to be hurting the rats, just swinging their weapons around like baboons. just like the tales of old, they need a hero to stand above them he mutters to himself, thinking of the tales of great men who could slay legions more efficiently than any other. he admonishes himself for so quickly thinking himself better than the rest of these folk, it's not his place to decide who is great, just to try his best to be so. He lunges at the next rat and attempts to impale it, just as the last one.

Rat Battle
Round 2

Ben realizes that there must be something going on at the front of the house so he quickly runs in that direction. He wants to get in an attack but was still too far away to do so.

Jervus Binkerween the boy gallant takes another chop with his ax and makes a surprisingly perfect hit on the huge rodent. The blade of Tru Temper severs the head of the rat clean off as a confident smirk forms on the future heroes rounded face.

Alec's extermination experience doesn't seem to be paying off yet as his crowbar swings wildly again, hitting only dirt. The rat he was trying to whack rears back and jumps at him again, this time Alec is able to spin away from its mouth just in time to avoid another bite.

Jonas has even worse luck when he leans in too far with his knife swing and looses his balance. He falls to the ground and suddenly finds himself looking eye to eye with two more rats that are just about to exit the nest to join the others. One of them strikes out for the strange looking boys face but he is just able to dodge the things sharp fangs and get back to his feet, thanks to Keilif stepping in and swatting the rat away with his mallet. The crabber is ironically rewarded for his bravery when the next rat runs out of the nest at him and bites him on his calf. 1 dam

Doubtful arrives at the rat fight but keeps his distance initially. He tries to encourage the others to back away at first, but once he sees Jonas fall, he tries to flank one of the rats instead. He thinks about trying some minor magicks.

Ermulf flings the dead rat off of his pitchfork tines and goes in for another kill. This time his fork catches nothing but air.

Back at the well....
Vhing failed to mention that this is what he had in mind when he suggested using the "buddy" system. Burly reminisces about his parents and how much he misses them while he watches Vhing pull out his firehose and urinate over the head of poor defenseless Danny.

Danny balances on the rope and reaches his arm as far down into the cold water as he can, trying to reach the pail. He sees what looks like part of the pails rope and also something shiny under the water as he tries to dodge the golden sprinkles from above.

Suddenly, what he first presumed was the rope, lashes out towards his extended arm. As if it wasn't bad enough that he was getting pissed on, now a large brown snake bears its fangs and lunges at him. Luckily, Danny is able to pull his arm away just in the nick of time to avoid being bitten by the snake.

Actions!

There are a total of three rats still in sight. One is already wounded and doesn't look like it wants to stick around much longer. There is also one snake down in the well that has to be dealt with.

Alec is down 2 hp's while Keilif is down 1.
