Thanks for the sword switch, Stirling. Now Arnar has a slightly better chance of doing more damage in melee.

Your dwarven hammer +3, does it not return to you if you throw it and miss? I was surprised the damage bonuses are only for range attacks and does not cover all 'preferred enemies' even in melee, but I haven' t read up on it. Anyway I am happy to go with the sword of the sconce, as long as I can keep his voice down!

It does return, but the big damage is only if thrown. It's pretty puny in melee.

Just a thought:
With a Ranger's incredible damage bonus against the giant class, and a "giant slayer" sword's ability to double damage against giants, I wonder if we should spread out our melee damage capabilities? ie: Let Arnor have the giant slaying weapon, so we have two fearsome sources of damage against giants, instead of one that is doubly fearsome?

Clarifications:
* Phaeus tosses a lit torch on the mattress?
* Phaeus and his blink dog head north to the kitchens?
* Jack polymorphs into bird and heads to the Great Hall by going outside first?

Thanks, and yeah about the dwarven thrower, awesome missile weapon, same ole crappy hammer damage in melee.

Yes. The fireproof humming bird will go down the main chimney to peek out and have a look. Thanks.

Yes Pheaus will use the torch to light the bed, it seems we are done in this room and I don't expect us to return. So my idea is the fire, if it lights will draw the ogres and giants away from us if we keep moving. I don't remember anyone searching the other arsenal room mentioned so I guess our moves are either kitchens or main hall.

The other concern is that onceJack turns into tweetie pie and flies off, what happens to Sugarlump? As much as it pains me, I think with Jack gone our friend will be less charming and thus we just have to 'leave him behind in the guest room' if you understand my meaning...

yup. I'm still a go.
I am thinking at this point we definitely lost some folks.
Maybe I'll ping everyone again, and continue pushing the game forward.

I did want to start this back rolling, but all the starts and stops last month did a lot of damage.

still think with Jack going off 'Sugarlump' may fret and Phaeus is hoping someone behind will stick the knife in before he gives us away?

We'll handle your trek via PMs methinks. :)

Hey everybody....

Okay....this just keeps going round and round and round.....WHAT IS THE PLAN? I don't really care if we sneak around for another few hours trying to find any useful trinkets while hopefully the main crowd gets drunk; passes out; thins out...whatever....but ultimately; what are we going to do?

Apparently, we can't roll out and gather more forces to assault this place, right? And...our primary mission, unless I'm missing something (and I very well might be, so please correct me if I'm wrong!)...is to take out these Giants.....so we're going to have to attack at some point....so what's that point?

I'm all for doing this as smartly as possible....finding some kind of defensible; or at least NARROW (like a hallway) to launch the attack from; using spells, missile fire, etc. and making so that only a few of the bad guys can get to our position at a time.....but if there's another strategy that people want to employ, I'm cool with that too; but what's the plan?

I guess what I'm really asking is.....if we don't attack the Giants now....what do we do....and sooner or later, we HAVE to attack the Giants, right? So when we do.....how do we go about it?

Sorry....I don't mean to sound like a d-bag or anything; I'm just a bit frustrated with 'where are we going with this'...I'm most certainly NOT trying to tick off anyone. I'm happy to go along with the herd....I'd just like to know the destination. :)

Thoughts?

I think the problem is that half the party thinks we should attack right now and half the party thinks that is a bad idea.

How many total AOE spells/attacks do we have? If not a lot, then there are a LOT of hit points between 24+ hill giants and a few stone/cloud giants (or whatever they were). No way we'll be able to take them all out in short order if we don't have huge AOE spells, like chain lightning and fireball (preferably in wand or staff form).

Fighters are good for one-on-one. Not useful when we are outnumbered 5-to-1.

Like I said in IC text, think we should look around, see if there is anything else we can find that would aid us in defeating them.

Well I am trying to play in character and I just don't think some frontal assault, more so now that we have better information, is going to work. What do we do, charge the room, blast everyone, kill the cheifd and go back rejoicing we ruined a party? Phaeus is trying to think long term, he has never met a cloud giant before (his big is it, HD, magics, etc). I feel we can still assassinate the chiefs, but need to know more than they are having a 'happy family' party.

I have tried to suggest things yo ovr the game forward but without wandering off down a corridor on my own, we need a group action.

Do the party wish to divide? One kitchen attack crew, one exploring the magics?

The problem as far as I see it is that the smart thing to do is to run back to whichever Lord sent us here; let them now what we've seen and come back with some troops to smash the place....but that's apparently NOT an option.

So it's basically we have to take care of them ourselves......so HOW is my question. On the one hand: we've got most of them in one place; so hitting them there (again NOT A FRONTAL ASSAULT) makes sense from a "well, we can do a lot of damage at once and not have to worry so much about spread out targets" perspective.....

On the other hand....we can continue to sneak around and hit things one (or two) at a time...but the problem there is; it's only a matter of time until the alarm goes off when dead guards, etc. are found.

So far as I can see....the 'middle' road is this: Sneak around a bit longer while they hopefully make themselves easier targets by getting more inebriated, etc. and see if we can find some more stuff to help us out; take out a few more; etc.

No matter what though....again, unless I'm missing something (i.e. if I remember correctly; retreating is NOT an option for us).....is that conflict is INEVITABLE....so WHEN it comes; what's the plan?

Hit the kitchens, kill the giants and ogres. Free the orcs, orcs get caught and blamed for tower massacre, we sneak more, find magics, more giant reasons they are here, assassinate chiefs, old hag wife, stonies and cloudy, pinch keg of beer and celebrate successful raid.
