"Ah, yes, the Iuzian Priest of Pelor. Constable Fanshen has already informed me of your stay here, and she does wish for your stay here in Greyhawk to a pleasant one." The door is held open and he waves outside for two additonal guards, one of which is recognizable by some in the group as being positioned on the wall prior. "Set it up over there."The subordinates begin moving unoccupied tables and chairs as the stage is cleared, then prepared for the upcoming event. Eventually, he turns back to the group. "Ever seen a place such as this? Cluemiester has free reign here to practice his harmless magic within these walls during his last few days here in the city, as his mind was instrumental in protecting much during the war. He is also a friend of mine, and of the poor. Do not fear him. But alas, his age is catching up to him and he is set to retire this time the morrow. I will be here for the sale, as will many of the city nobles, or their representatives will. You plan on attending? I may suggest moving the rest of these tables, if you would, out of the way, perhaps into the kitchen or pantry when you are done. He is expecting a large crowd." He takes the remaining loaves from the tray as the table is passing, carried and set aside just above the crate of herring. He opens the door and hands the loaves to some curious children who poke their heads around the threshold. He casually salutes the corporals as they leave.
"My office is just across the way, the barracks there." Pointing across the street, he lifts the cloak and begins to put it back on. "We will return in two hours to help with final preparations. He surely has a collection to match any." As he readies himself to leave, he turns to Skuzz and nods his head and asks "How you adjusting soldier? Chin up. We should have a ship bound for Keoland any day now."

Nellsir, still holding the door, recants what he knows of the event.
"The old mage has no heir and has given most of his estate to the Temple of St Cuthbert here in Greyhawk. In fact, I hope this building is to be turned into an annex for Cuthbert's use. I have put in my requests for turning it into a barrack-annexed chapel. Optional requests can still be submitted up until mid this night. The Council will decide after Cluemiester leaves. His remainder of the estate is to be sold, or auctioned, not exactly sure how the old man is going to do it. He has not told anyone, and anticipation is high. It will be something to see. All those nobles, and such, who fancy themselves above the use of magic. Haha. Say, Master Dwarf, how would you like to help with security during the show? Unless of course, you are here for the bidding event. Please forgive my presumptions."

Jacob is somewhat surprised at the appearance of the guards but takes a swig. "Nellsir, why not keep the building as an inn? Might bring in a bit o' copper to the city guard, hmm?"

"Old mage, hmmm." Skuzz speaks outloud, rubbing the stubble on his chin. The half-orc ponders what an old mage would have stocked up and hidden that would be of use to a warrior such as himself. With a shrug, the hood falls to the side a bit and Skuzz replaces it in it's default position.

"I guess uh'll stick aroun un see what's comin' up on tha block, maybe tha old coot has uh pair o' orcish mu'klek sticks." Skuzz sniffs once, and sucks his teeth, while looking around the inn.

After Skuzz's comment, Branc says, half to him and half to the others, "There's never knowing what sorts of things a mage has collected."

Darius shrugs his shoulders. "I hope to be at the temple working as soon as possible. If I am here for the auction it will be as a onlooker only.

He sits back in his chair and relaxes for a moment letting his shoulders lower. After a second his eyes look around the room and his relaxation ends as his shoulders rise.

The Captain says "There have been many bids put in for the Inn's future. Submission forms can be picked up anywhere. In fact, there may be some here." He walks behind the bar. "Yes, here."He holds one up and lays it on the counter. He returns to the door.
"If there are no other questions, I must take my leave of you. I will return soon. Cluemiester should be along within the hour. Farewell, for now"
ooc, any other questions for the captian, or actions in the tavern, before I bump this?
As he leaves, the group can hear him remark, from under the canopy, "The rain, it's letting up. Thank the gods."

For the duration of the conversation with the captain, Thor'ar was much too engulfed in his meal to get a chance to respond to the captain's offer. Though he did hear the man mention "dwarf" Thor'ar stuck to his gluttony and wolfed down a hunk of cheese before watering it down with the last bits of goat gravy.

Hours later, patrons file in as the area around the stage fills fast. The Captain gives recognized members of nobility the priority seating up front although none are introduced as such. Representatives of nobles, and other apparently familiar well-to-do citizens take up the remainder of the first two rows. One guard hands out hand fans with numbers on them, amongst the crowd and soon takes position just east of the door, with six other guards, along the outer walls, east and south.
Before too long, the tavern is busting at the seams and, if effort is not taken, our group finds themselves towards the back, standing room only. The crowd faces the stage in a semicircular pattern as Nellsir does his best to mingle with the nobles, thanking them for coming. Most quietly return the greeting, while some, in an arrogant manner at times, are non-responsive. He comes to hold his position in the third row, center and looks over a shoulder occasionally, scanning his left and the right.

Bits of role play and possible actions expected here.
Those who accept a fan & number have a number somewhere between high 40s and low 50s.

I’ll need stated positions before continuing, i.e. upstairs in my room, as close as I can, at the rear, etc…

The crowd silences itself as a……

Being tall enough and wide enough to make his own room at the standing section of the auction, Skuzz walks over to the man handing out fans and looks to the man for a few seconds, before slowly taking one of the numbers.

Skuzz turns and makes his way to the back, being taller than most in here, he stands a good half a head higher, so his eyes have a direct line to the merchandise-to-be.

"Lets get on wif it." Skuzz mutters to himself in a quiet tone, being near those he met a few moments before the inn filled.

Branc makes his way to the guard handing out numbered fans and takes one, being sure to keep it low after he has it. He asks the guard handing out the fans,"Is there a list of what's being auctioned that's available?"

dm:The guard shrugs both shoulders and carries on his duty.

Before the auction, Jacob made sure that the Unseen Servants knew about his fish and other belongs and made sure that all his stuff was in his room. Jacob takes a chair up to the upstairs corridor, along with his money, lute, and some fish and ale, to have a better view of the auction. He asks the others(PCs) if they'd like to join him.

EDIT: Jacob also takes a fan/number(it somehow skipped my mind, lol)

dm: you learn that the servants seem unable to carry anythng over 20 lbs

After the meal Daruis retired upstairs to his room to rest, meditate and pray.

Before the auction, disappointed that he hadn't heard word from the temple, Darius heads downstairs to observe. He decided to take a fan just out of curiosity rather then actually thinking he would buy anything. Darius then heads to the sides of the room, close enough to have a good view, but not in the front.

If they make eye contact, he nods to any of the group he met downstairs earlier.

dm: at least two patrons leave when seeing the human from Iuz. Half of the guards' attention focuses on you for awhile until Nellsir calms with a finger and it is obvious you are not the evil incarnate their preconceptions mustered.

Thor'ar seeks out the captain Nellsir, as he remembered that the good man mentioned a need of security. Thor'ar takes interest in being able to flaunt his skills in front of the others, and sees to it that he gets a good position in security.

DM: Nellsor whispers for you to keep an eye peeled for cutpurse activities towards the rear of the audience.

The crowd silences as ....the door is held open once again and an extremely old human male, robed magnificently and supporting himself by staff, makes his way to the stage. From Jacob’s second floor vantage point he can see a gnome following the mage, attending to the robe’s end. This must be Cluemiester, and his aid. The gnome takes a minute to tries to wipe the mud from the old man’s shoes before returning to the robe’s tail. Refusing the assistance mostly, the mage still takes an eternity to ascend the two stairs at the front of the stage.
The wizard finally gets to the top and waves his hand to the corner of the room, and his favorite chair materializes before all to see. Some of the crowd is taken aback, but none move from their positions. Cluemiester slowly spins to face the audience and hesitates momentarily, as if to bow, but no bend is apparent, and he feebly reaches for the chair arm to sit.
When Nellsir informed you earlier that the mage was getting on in years, he was not exaggerating in the least.

Each party member that is present, and has a view of the stage, should make a perception check
(wisdom/intuition + intelligence/reason) divided by two.
Include the target number in parenthesis in the roll, example … perception (14) [1d20]
Perception checks will be used periodically in most encounters.

The gnome steps in front of the mage and motions to the guards…

Darius's perception check:

perception (15)[1d20] = 19

I guess he is not feeling perceptive.

DM: Darius stands, taking it all in, but the crowd shows no interest in giving you a better perspective on their actions and features.

Branc Perception (13): [1d20] = 18

Clearly, there are foreign (to him) women in the crowd that have distracted him.

dm: one beautiful specimen does attract your attention away from business at hand.
Until he turns around. An honest mistake.

OOC Thor'ar's perception was 19/2 so I rounded it down to 9
Perception- 9 [1d20] = 18

Skuzz watches as the old meatbag enters with his footstool and climbs the steps.

Ob Roll (9) = [1d20] = 10

dm: sure hope Jacob (perception (16) 14, +2 for vantage point) can see something from his upper view , cause Nayman cant see anything either, except the backsides of the back row, and the fireplace to the west wall. If he is even awake still
