Ch. 6: One More Time Around
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
Quinn draws his sword and moves past the pile of treasure towards the skull.

Odilo nods "Actually you are correct though I have heard of strange rituals being done on skulls and there be on sitting in there. I think it is something some liches use. Oh what do they call it the liches effigy? I think that is the name of the magical object that is the only way to kill a lich. But my memory fails me at the moment with my headache."

Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
Faced with a sudden opponent in the burial vault, you pause for a chat on the nature of liches. Skarlos decides to parlay. "Who are you and how do you propose to kill us?" he asks. The only response he gets is cold laughter as the figure, which has solidified into something like a mummy with a bony crown on its head, advances. Quinn draws his sword and moves toward the skull, but the mummy-like figure blocks his path. It reaches forward with a bony hand that Quinn dodges. Only Urdak seems to take the new threat seriously, hefting a hammer, but not yet throwing it.

Odilo moves his hands in the gestures of casting a spell speaking the phrases as swiftly as he can. Aiming his fingers at the new threat. As lightning shoots forth from his fingers arching and forking around his friends aimed squarely for the mummy thing.
Lightning Bolt [10d6] = 40 + [1d6] = 5 45 total dmg

Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
Luckily for Odilo, a ring of protection's bonus also applies to saving throws, so he'll make his save.
Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
When everyone else is making their rolls: dexterity bonuses apply. Bonuses for magical armor apply only if the armor is non-metal.

Gah! Zhym loves an AOE spell in a confined space!
Skarlos attempts to dive out of the way....
Saving Throw [1d20] = 18
And manages to get himself flat on the floor before the bolt bounces.

Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
You grab a narrow initiative.
Odilo, not one for half measures, releases a powerful bolt of lightning at the attacking undead thing, aiming the spell to avoid his companions. With a deafening crack, the bolt blasts through the mummy-like creature, knocking it back, momentarily turning it back into dust that quickly re-forms, and breaking up the spell it had been starting to cast.
The bolt travels through the creature and ricochets off of the walls. In an instant, the lightning bolt fills the entire crypt and the hallway beyond. Urdak and Skarlos are able to dodge the main bolt, catching only weaker offshoots. Odilo gets the full brunt of the bolt, but his magical protections reduce its effect. Quinn and McCloud, however, are caught flat-footed. The bolt hits each of them square in their chests. Quinn is charred but survives. McCloud is not so lucky. He falls to the ground, smoking and twitching. (Urdak, Skarlos, and Odilo: -22 HP. Quinn and McCloud: -45 HP!)
A cackling laugh echoes throughout the chamber. "GREAT SHOT!" it taunts. "DO IT AGAIN!"
Urdak responds to the jolt with an instinctive hammer throw—targeted, for some reason, at the undead figure instead of the wizard that just zapped him. The hammer disrupts the undead creature, which staggers again and reforms.
Quinn pulls out his lute and begins to play a song of protection from evil for all within 10' who hear it.

Ouch...
OOC: General Properties Of All Bard Instruments:
Each and every instrument looks exactly alike due to powerful dweomers placed upon them. Any character able to play one of these instruments can sing so as to do one of the following for as many turns as the order of the college, i.e. 1-7, a magnus alumni for 8 turns with any of the 7, once each per day:
1. put up a 10’ radius protection from evil;
2. become invisible (although the strumming and singing can still be
heard distantly, the exact location is impossible to discover unless
detection of invisibility is possible);
3. levitate; and

Oh, right. Gary put that after the item descriptions. The man needed an editor.
PfE 10' it is, then. I'll edit the post.

Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
Odilo learns from his mistake. Silently morning the death of a comrade even if it was accidentally his own fault. Sorry about that McCloud though I bet Zhym is happy we finally had a death again
The strange wizard casts his protection from evil on Urdak if he has the time too as the dwarf is rushing into the tomb otherwise he will cast it upon Skarlos.

Re: Ch. 6: One More Time Around
You and your enemy act simultaneously. It starts casting another spell.
Quinn breaks off combat to tend to McCloud. The clansman awakens, barely alive. The same cannot be said of most of his equipment. His backpack has split from the force of the bolt, dumping charred and blackened items across the floor. Only a few items survive (see list below). Skarlos adds some healing from his god (+12 HP), but McCloud he is still heavily singed from Odilo's close-quarters lightning bolt.
Urdak charges the dust thing, swinging his pick into it. The dust thing recoils, its spell interrupted.
Odilo tries to cast a spell of protection against evil on Urdak, but the dwarf is too busy rushing into battle. Odilo casts his spell on Skarlos instead.
