Fendt pokes one of the ornate bronze doors with his bo stick. Nothing happens. Tumbler steps forward and opens the doors, hoping he didn't miss a trap. The doors open with no apparent ill effect.

Deep cobwebs fill the area beyond, their musty smell assaulting your senses and obscuring sight. Deep pools of darkness lie all about you as you attempt in vain to to peer through the spidery veils. A single path leads to the center of the room, where a rope dangles from high above.

Iluq carefully walks forward a bit before stopping. He looks at Fendt, speaking in a hushed tone, "Use your staff to check for floor traps?"

We are clearing the webs as we go correct?

Tibbius looks around the rooms as they pass through them, looking for anything along the walls or floor that might be another trip mechanism.

Robert uses his torch to continue clearing the webs but is very cautious and alert.

"are we at the bottom of a bell tower? seems we are in the middle of the castle.". Agrippo will step forward and help cut the webs away, I guess with the Sunsword not glowing that he will be on the lookout for spiders, driders and other creepy crawler web users who may spring form the shadows.

Fendt allows tumbler to do as he needs to.

Tumbler immediately starts searching the floor for traps. He finds none, and gives the "all clear" signal.

Robert and Agrippo start work on clearing webs with fire and sword. The webs are gummy and hard to cut, but burn easily enough. As the webs above burn, you see that this room must be quite tall. Perhaps it is a bell tower, as Agrippo surmised.

You also see five angry spiders drop into your midst from the webs above.

Fendt takes out his mace and swings at the closest spider to him.
Footman's Mace[1d20+1] = 16+1 = 17 Dmg[1d6+2] = 6+2 = 8

Tibbius swings at the closest ferocious arachnid, fearing for his fragile life.

Iluq will rush towards the spider in front of him (S2), switching his hammers at the creatures eyes and legs.

Dual +1 Hammer attack: To Hit [1d20+1] = 1+1 = 2, [1d20+1] = 20+1 = 21; damage [1d4+2] = 2+2 = 4 (+1v.L), [1d4+2] = 4+2 = 6 (+1v.L)

Okay, seriously. What am I supposed to do with a critical hit and critical miss in the same dual-handed attack? :D

I guess per the critical hit rules that I never got around to changing, the spider gets a free counterattack and you get a free second attack.

Tumbler was focused on finding traps and ready to jump in a flash should he step on a trap door. The spiders may have been a different stimuli but the results are the same. Tumbler immediately jumps and rolls away from where he was standing hoping to end up closer to Fendt and Tibbius.

Agrippo will take a hearty swing at the nearest spider, trying to keep shield in the front or above him to ward them off as much as he can. he gets a good attack:

42474 [1d8+3] = 6+3 = 9 damage
42473 [1d20+3] = 19+3 = 22 to hit

Time: 9:16 PM - Combat Round 1
Weather: Rain
Moon: Full
Location: Castle Ravenloft, Beyond the Fireplace
**************************************
Your attacks and the spiders' attacks come at the same time.

Fendt presses forward to attack the spider to the south, giving Tumbler room to tumble away from combat. The spider in the middle and the spider by the door both try to bite the escaping dwarf, but Tumbler is too nimble for them to catch.

The south spider's powerful mandibles bite into Fendt's shoulder, piercing the half-elf's chain mail! (Fendt: -7 HP; save vs. poison.) Fendt smashes the spider in the face with his mace. Agrippo takes the opportunity to attack the spider from behind. He drives the SunSword deep into the spider's abdomen. It falls to the ground and rolls over, dead.

Unfortunately for Agrippo, attacking the south spider opened his back to the one to the east. The spider bites Agrippo in the back. The damage is minor, but the venom might not be (Agrippo: -2 HP; save vs. poison).

The south spider's attack on Agrippo gives Robert an opening from behind. The druid swings his scimitar through the spider's back. Spider guts ooze onto the floor. The spider rears in pain and fury.

Tibbius strikes at the spider near the door, but his fear overcomes him. His staff does no damage.

The spider to the north lunges at iluq, but the dark elf avoids its bite. Iluq brings his hammers together on two of the spider's multiple eyes. His left hand hits so hard he almost loses his balance! The spider takes the opportunity for another attack. As it sinks its mandibles into Iluq's side, the cleric brings another hard left, knocking the spider's head from its body. He shakes the head off his side and kicks it away in disgust (Iluq: -5 HP; save vs. poison).

Two spiders are dead. One is injured. The other two are unhurt. Three of our heroes have been bitten.

Iluq Save VS. Poison: [1d20] = 15

Iluq turns to his right after dispatching the spider, beheading the creature with his hammers, he swings now against the spider blocking the door (S4)

Dual +1 Hammer attack: To Hit [1d20+1] = 15+1 = 16, [1d20+1] = 20+1 = 21; damage [1d4+2] = 1+2 = 3 (+1v.L), [1d4+2] = 3+2 = 5 (+1v.L)

Nice! Two solid hits and one of them was a 20!

Freebie Attack: To Hit: [1d20+1] = 11+1 = 12 damage: [1d4+2] = 1+2 = 3

Robert moves to attack S5 (+4 rear attack if it's attacking Agrippo) as he keeps his back to the wall.

Scimitar +1 to hit[1d20 +1] = 8+1 = 9 Damage[1d8+1] = 5+1 = 6

Not counting bonus for flank or rear if they apply.
