Speaking as a fan of the game, as Magnus likes to say, I agree. The party desperately needs rest. The big question is where the safest place to rest will be. Trying to escape the castle and travel back to town isn't necessarily safer than finding somewhere in the castle to sleep. The study has been monster grand central—trying to rest there was a little like trying to sleep in a hotel lobby—but other places in or near the castle might be suitable. Or maybe the study would settle down during the daytime.

Also: remember that the fireplace is huge. Bigger than some bedrooms and most closets. You could easily burn Vorkath and Randolph in the fireplace if you wanted. It would probably draw less attention than setting fire to another room, as appropriate an homage as that might be.

Well what I am saying is so far no place in the castle has worked kinda hard to ensure safe rest when there are creatures that can just fly through a closed door, or window or even the walls, floors and ceiling.

So wait who is leaving? I thought we only lost Gorg. What's with the LFP 2 players?

Vorkath was a powerful ally. It may take two non-paladins to make up for the loss.

I'm thinking of tweaking the critical hit/miss rules. As they are now, a critical hit or miss just gives the opportunity for a free attack. So far, many of the free attacks have missed, making the critical hits anticlimactic. So I'm thinking of using a more typical critical hit system:

Natural 20: Max damage and take a free second attack.
Natural 1: Roll d100 and check the following table:

1-5: Weapon breaks! Magical weapons get a save vs. crushing blow at +2 (plus any other bonuses).
6-35: Weapon dropped. An action (usually, a round) will be needed to pick it back up.
36-60: Attacker is off balance. Next attack is at -2.
61-100: No ill effects

Thoughts?

I think there should always be an ill effect on a natural 1

I am going to regret this post later.

Whatever the rule is, it will apply to the party's enemies too. Which means I need an alternate ill effect for those that involve weapons when the critical miss is rolled by something with bite attacks or similar, but that's not too hard.

If you're okay with the change in general, I can fill out the critical-miss table with a couple more bad things that might happen.

Also: Would you prefer max damage on a 20, or double damage (assuming any damages are applied after the doubling)?

I am fine with the change for both misses and hits of crit nature. I prefer the double dmg rule granted it would also be that way on us pcs'

I don't believe I've rolled for Tib since I've been in this game yet so, I will let the guys doing the actual fighting decide.

Maybe what you need to get some rest is a room where Tumbler could fashion a really good set of locks. Then all you'd have to worry about would be things that can float through walls.
