Mursley, MU

Murlsey is concerned that if we back off we may lose any element of surprise, so votes for staying over in the city.

Guys, we run a real risk of getting surrounded and trapped in one of these buildings, and also I'm kind of worried that the bandits and lunatics will wander off without us.

Like I said, we should consider either staying near here or, at most, two hours away, and then come back. I'm more concerned with not leaving for several days and heading back to Threshold than I am with whether we stay in a building or go back to the camp two hours away where the invalids are.

I imagine the Wandering Monster rate is possibly higher the closer we are to the structures, in any case, and wouldn't want to spend all night with those rates checking every turn.

I'd sign onto that. Let's just not make it TOO easy for them to find us.

I'd not want to camp in the town - too close to the orcs and too likely to be nasty wandering monsters too.

just to clarify, Wyzard, you are in favor of leaving the city and camping with the bandits/madmen -- about two hours away -- and are still opposed to staying in the city. Sorry to be dense; the heat cooked my brain a bit today.

Yeah, two hours away. I think camping in the city is too dangerous.

Aquar, cleric

Looking at the foreboding ruins of the ancient city, Aquar says, "Who knows what evil lurks in these buildings? Only the shadows know."

"Let us rest under clear skies away from orc threat. With recovered strength and spell we will vanquish on the morrow."

After a lively debate a consensus is reached to leave the city and return to the comrades they left behind. The plan is put into action, and the companions retreat from the city. After a march of barely two hours -- during which time every effort is made to hide their tracks from inquisitive orcish eyes -- they return to the copse where the maddened men-at-arms await with their bandit guards. The two bandits sit under the shade of a tree, dicing idly, whilst one of the invalids sleeps nearby. The other madman can be seem a short ways off, stark naked, daubing himself with red clay.

The night passes slowly and uncomfortably. No fire is lit, and everyone is on edge against an orcish attack. Several hours after dark the blowing of horns -- harsh and low -- can be heard off in the distance. The horn calls continue on throughout the night, sometimes sounding as if the sounder is just over the next hill, but the adventurer's camp is not discovered.

Yarthmont 12, AC 1000

The next day comes with clear skies.

Before going to sleep, Aquar will cast his last CLW. He has 15/17. Is there another more injured?

I will update my sheet with the next days spell and orison selections.

Anohir, Priest

"Let's set off. Do you think we should bring the madmen? It seems they have reverted to an almost savage state. They could still be useful in a battle."

Totally. The horns blowing throughout the night was just for dramatic effect.

Aquar, cleric

Seeing Rhys more injured, Aquar brings divine healing (CLW) down on him. Then the cleric sleeps for the night, awakens at dawn, prays for refreshed divine spells, eats, and casts his Cure Minor Wounds orison (1 HP) on himself.

Severi Silvertongue, Elf

"So, the Orcs are likely on alert now. I think that narrow passage will be too dangerous to attempt if its defenders are roused. We should, rather, attempt another building and see if we can take a second group of orcs by surprise."

Mursley agrees with this idea.

How is Mursley getting on with learning invisibility? Did he get a chance to study last night?
