This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

It's not an option.

In keeping with Tolkien's Middle Earth...

PCs may attempt to know spells from the list below. Later, more spells may be found in the world. (The letter in parentheses following the spell name indicates what kind of spell it is in the PHB.)

Elvish Spells:

1st level:
  • Affect Normal Fires and Smoke (MU)
    Audible Glamour (MU)
    Bless (C)
    Cure Light Wounds (C)
    Dancing Lights (MU)
    Detect Magic (MU)

I did get the Gandalf-ish spells, so good there! :D
I think the MU limitations make it a bit more interesting actually. Though Sleep is always a great spell to get at level 1!

Hey Ogre Mage,

Falco Boffin looks good to go!

For languages, a Hobbit would know:
Hobbitish
Westron, the common tongue of Men
Dwarvish or Orcish or Sindarin, the lower language of the Elves
There are no alignment languages.

What is the bag made of that is holding crushed glass?

Thanks!

I wasn't positive about encumbrance:
  • I see a set of clothes listed as 30 coins, or 3 pounds. Is this the weight of an extra set if you're carrying one, or do you need to add that weight for the set you're wearing?
  • I couldn't find a weight for thieves' tools (I used 5 coins, or a half pound).
  • Do halfings hobbits have a base move of 90', or 120'?
If I add everything up Pockets is carrying/wearing (including all his coins and the 30 coins for clothes), he's carrying 952 coins, or 95.2 pounds.

His strength is 16, which gives him a 350 bonus allowance, which I assume drops that total carried to 602 (952-350).

If so, according to pages 101-102 in the PHB, his encumbrance would fall under 'heavy' gear, which would drop his speed by 3.

Assuming a base move of 9, his move would be 6".
Thanks Dave.

Pockets is looking good.

Those weight estimates are fine. Thanks.

You may wear Studded Leather and still be able to use your Thief skills, fyi.
This would move your AC from 8/8/8 to 7/7/7.

Hobbitish
Westron, the common tongue of Men
Dwarvish or Orcish or Sindarin, the lower language of the Elves

There are no alignment languages.
No gnomes in Middle Earth (that we know of!)
Goblin is just another name for Orc.
I'll allow Thieves Cant, but it's for some pretty unsavory customers!

The base movement of humans and demihumans is 12". (I'll spare you my diatribe on this subject :) )
Pockets' movement is 9".

Thanks!

Hey Gary!! Good to be playing with you.

Though the wedding was Friday, I didn't listen to the warnings of my wife about the stouts and whisky, so my old-@$$ self is still got a case of the slows  - even with catching up on work stuff, I should be GtG by the Fourth.

Hey Ron! Same to you.
And if you an I got together, the beer and the whiskey would be kick the $#!+ out of both of us! :P
Maybe one of these days!
