I will make the change, although I would disagree. A stocky, 4' dwarf wielding a 5' weapon seems more realistic than a 5' human wielding any of the 8'+ polearms.

Question about clothing: nothing much in the PHB for regular clothes and such.
Also, want to buy chalk, and maybe a few other items. Is there another equip list we can use?

I gave my character a set of clothes- everyone is going to have something to wear. I also came up with a few other items, including chalk, that I added to my equipment list. I'll let Inferno go through there and either deny or price them. Most of my extra stuff should be things he could have acquired pretty easily- mess kit, bedroll, whetstone...

I'll admit, I am really only familiar with the movies., I don't know much Tolkien, so I'm fine with wherever. I'll let you decide- unless Rob wants to join the family and chime in...

Interesting. Maybe like the Barbarian class ability, they can do first aid, giving 1hp immediately, and another 1hp with every day of rest? Maybe they need to make a Wisdom save to do it? Let me think about that.
Ok. Thought about it.

Wolfpack, I'd rather not open the can of worms that is nonweapon proficiencies from 2e. :)

Raven, I think Aragorn's kingsfoil healing thing inspired Gary Gygax to give 1e Rangers magic spells at higher levels. :)

Right now, we already have the following things to help the party with hit points and healing...
  • All casters can automatically add Cure Light Wounds to their list of known spells.

Spell don't have to be memorized in advance. So any spell slot can be a CLW casting.

Elf casters get bonus spell slots based on Wisdom, like clerics do.

There are two committed caster PCs in the party so far. 2-3 clerics in a party of 10 sounds about right.

A house rule that gives full hit points not just for first level but second level too.

A house rule that already lets PCs heal 3-7 hit points each night.
To all that, I'll include a first aid ability for Rangers and Elves, which I'll add to House Rules shortly.

And I'll say CLW and Healing Potions heal 2d4+1 HP, not 1d8.

Thanks. :)

PCs can start with regular clothes at no charge. I won't charge for chalk either.

Hey Pixie,

Looks good!

For languages, an Elf would know:
Westron, the common tongue of Men
Quenya, the higher language of the Elves
Sindarin, the lower language of the Elves
Dwarvish or Hobbit
Orcish
There are no alignment languages.
There is no Goblin language. Goblin is another name for Orc.

For Hit Points, a multiclass character averages the hitpoints of each class together. So she should have 7hp. (the average of 10 and 4)
Knowing now that you get CLW automatically: feel free to swap Int and Con to get more HP if you want, and then keep rolling to get a final list of known spells.
Up to you.
I will swap INT for CON!

Pockets should be ready for review.

I wasn't positive about encumbrance:
  • I see a set of clothes listed as 30 coins, or 3 pounds. Is this the weight of an extra set if you're carrying one, or do you need to add that weight for the set you're wearing?
  • I couldn't find a weight for thieves' tools (I used 5 coins, or a half pound).
  • Do halfings hobbits have a base move of 90', or 120'?

If I add everything up Pockets is carrying/wearing (including all his coins and the 30 coins for clothes), he's carrying 952 coins, or 95.2 pounds.

His strength is 16, which gives him a 350 bonus allowance, which I assume drops that total carried to 602 (952-350).

If so, according to pages 101-102 in the PHB, his encumbrance would fall under 'heavy' gear, which would drop his speed by 3.

Assuming a base move of 9, his move would be 6".

Hey Gary!! Good to be playing with you.

Though I am WAY behind the others in Character Generation, I'll confirm an Elven MU - because we need it, and sorta because of the magic tweaks and changes Inferno made, but mainly because it's my weakest class and I should grog-up and get better at it. Though the wedding was Friday, I didn't listen to the warnings of my wife about the stouts and whisky, so my old-@$$ self is still got a case of the slows  - even with catching up on work stuff, I should be GtG by the Fourth.
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
