Sky

Out of the corner or her eye, Sky spots the fallen dragonborn and encourages him to stop dying. "GET UP! This is no time to rest!"

She then pulls her rapier and tries to impale the tree in the spot that has been rendered bark-less. Sky uses her bonus action to cast healing word on Klilxuac, then moves close to the tree to attack it.

A few things:
  1. Ed, still waiting on Kelben;
  2. Scott, since Sky acts first, Klilxuac will be healed in time for his turn in the order, so I'll need an action (instead of a death saving throw) from you;
  3. If this were a game being played at the table, I, as the DM, would be advising you that the tree is dead. Like, all the way. Given the circumstances, I really hate seeing efforts being "wasted" when maybe I haven't been making that fact clear enough. Feel free to have Sky redirect his attack elsewhere, or change it entirely.

Sorry I am not sure what else to do in my current 4 HP of health I hesitate to go melee with the heavy armored Sir Bradford and i can't keep the guy far enough away to keep using ranged attacks on him either.

Kelben moves around the stone wall moving towards where sky is near the tree and will try to fire an arrow at his pursuer.

Short Bow [1d20+4] = 19+4 = 23 to hit; [1d6+2] = 6+2 = 8 damage

Sky

Altered from previous post.

After she casts healing word on Klilxuac, she fires her crossbow at Hargrem! "You too!"

She moves ten feet SW, skirting behind the burning dead tree.

Hargrem

Asleep in the weeds, Hargrem's dreams are unsettled. There were thoughts of trees and blights and crazy druids. Just as he was about to slay the evil tree, he awakens to a sharp pain. He groggily looked around and then looked behind him. Someone or something managed to fire a bolt into his butt! He yelled out in pain "OOOWWW. What the ever living <bleep>?"

Getting to his feet, he saw Belak and Sharwyn canoodling near the burning bush. Hargrem decided to forgo his attempt to get free from the weeds and called forth a blast of cursed power to all within his sight.

Qelgrax Klilxuac

Regaining consciousness, the sorcerer slowly gets back to his feet. Still moving gingerly, he makes his way to the southwest (4 spaces north of Hargrem).

I don't think Klilxuac can see Belak or Sharwyn from that spot. If he would only be able to see Sharwyn, he would stop in the square 5' to the east instead. If he can see Belak, he will cast Scorching Ray, focusing it completely on Belak.

Initiative Order
  • 18: Kelben
  • 15: Sky
  • 14: Kulket
  • 12: Belak
  • 10: Klilxuac
  • 9: Sharwyn
  • 8: Hargrem
  • 7: Sir Braford
  • 6: Twig Blights

Round 7
Kelben moves as fast as his gnome legs will carry him towards Sky. Once the rogue reaches the wall, he turns and fires an arrow at Sir Braford, and watches in relief as the arrow sinks into the neck of the armored tree/person hybrid. The pursuit immediately ceases as Sir Braford brings his barky hands to the site of the arrow, pulls it out, then collapsing as a thick, reddish sap oozes from the wound. A loud clang rings out as his form its the floor in his metal armor.
He had exactly 8 hit points!
Sky, due to fortunate positioning, is able to locate the form of Klilxuac on the ground unmoving. "Now is not the time to nap!" she purrs as she casts Healing Word on the fallen dragonborn, rousing the sorcerer. She quickly shifts her focus into locating the cleric, then manages to spot him, also lying on the ground in the middle of the entanglement, not appearing to make any effort to free himself. "Are you sleeping, too? Wake up!" she scolds, leveling her hand crossbow at her unmoving, restrained companion and carefully places a bolt in a non-lethal location, then scampers behind the form of the dead tree seeking some cover. Like Klilxuac before him, Hargrem begins to stir.

"No!" Belak roars as he hears his armored defender fall. He looks to his left and still sees Klilxuac and Hargrem prone on the ground. Looking to his right, he spots the wilting Gulthias Tree that still slowly burns. A form might be lingering behind it, but then he spies Kelben. "You're next!" he says as he crosses the chamber with determination, stopping when he's roughly 10-feet away from the gnome. He extends his right hand towards the rogue, palm up, fingers lightly closed. He blows into his hand, opening his fingers, and a puff of green gas extends from his palm. For a moment, Kelben is engulfed in a noxious cloud.

Returning to a state of consciousness, Klilxuac slowly gets back to his feet. He looks to where he last remembered Belak standing, but finds only Sharwyn. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he spies the druid in pursuit of Kelben. Taking a short step down, positioning himself safely between the walls of the circular turret, and unleashes three rays of fire at the crazed leader.

Still to act:
Sharwyn
Hargrem
Twig Blights

---

This is just a partial update, for reasons.

  • Two things:
  • Ed, I'm going to need you to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 12). Do. Not. Fail.
    • At this point, it seems like a good time to point out that you do have inspiration, which would give you advantage on your roll. You'll need to decide before you roll whether or not you're going to use it.
  • Scott, I will wait for you to make the three attack rolls for your Scorching Ray spell. He has a low AC, and not a ton of hit points. This could, quite literally, be game changing.

    Good luck!

Once I have the results of the above, I will finish resolving the round, then push to round 8, if needed.

Round 7
"You're next!" Belak roars as he crosses the chamber with determination, stopping when he's roughly 10-feet away from Kelben. He extends his right hand towards the rogue, palm up, fingers lightly closed. He blows into his hand, opening his fingers, and a puff of green gas extends from his palm. For a moment, Kelben is about to become engulfed in a noxious cloud, but his rogue-like reflexes allow the gnome to safely dive out of the affected area before the poison is able to infect his system.

Returning to a state of consciousness, Klilxuac slowly rises to his feet. After the first surge of magical fire singes the druid's robes, Belak turns and is able to shift out of the way as the second and third rays sail harmlessly overhead and crash into the rock outcropping that is part of the far wall, just over Kelben's head.

After not initially spying any targets in the immediate area, Sharwyn reacts the three bursts of flame that erupt from beyond the wall, out of her view. She creeps forward until she spots Klilxuac. With the dragonborn in her sight, she unleashes some arcane magic of her own -- as a trio of darts streak in the sorcerer's direction, striking without error. Klilxuac is able to withstand the first strike, but the pain from the second is too much in his weakened condition and sends him back into a state of unconsciousness. The third sinks in past his dragon scales to add insult to injury and further shock to his system.

Asleep in the weeds, Hargrem has his dreams interrupted when he feels a sting in his backside. He yells out in pain, but works to fight the restraining weeds and vines that are overcoming him and manages to reach a kneeling position. There, he spies Belak to his left, and Sharwyn directly in front of him. Electing to delay his fight against his restraints, the cleric calls forth a blast of cursed power targeting the two opponents within sight, and range.

Belak, the druid, appears to fight off the attempt, but Sharwyn seems to have been overcome by the negative influence.

From her obscured spot behind the tree, Sky is still able to see the battle unfold. She peeks out and fires a bolt at the nearby Belak. She continues moving around the tree, over to the west side just south of the twigs.

Sky moves over to the space two squares SE of the blue twig.

Round 8
Kelben, having just avoided the affects of the noxious cloud, wheels around and jabs at Belak with his rapier, but misjudges his attempt and missed badly.

Sky, obscured spot behind the tree, takes aim with his hand crossbow and, peeking out from his position of cover, fires a bolt at Belak who's standing nearby.

After watching her bolt finds its mark, the tabaxi skirts behind the dead tree, settling into a spot just before the still sleeping twig blights.

The damage inflicted about Belak is clearly taking its toll as the druid shows many cuts and bruises, and just generally looks weakened... but still managed to put some power behind the Shillelagh enhanced quarterstaff, leaving a solid welt on the back of the gnome's head. (-7)

Klilxuac remains motionless, hopefully still clinging to life.

Sharwyn, now-part tree, mindlessly moves on from Klilxuac, her previous target, now that he's down. Turning to her right slightly, she spies Hargrem struggling in a near prone position in the field of entanglement. "Freeze," she says lightly, in a soulless voice, like a female automation. With that, a frigid beam of blue-white light streaks toward the cleric, striking him square in the chest. A powerful chill overtakes the holy man as his metal armor becomes cold to the touch. At least for a moment, his joints feel like they're freezing in place, slowing his already slowed movement even further.

His motions still slowed, Hargrem fights off the freezing effect and counters with a bout of searing flames, targeting Sharwyn, but his hampered mobility and prone condition cause his aim to be slightly off and the magical fire lands just behind his intended target.

Meanwhile, the Twig Blights continue their slumber.

Hargrem

The man senses that the battle has now taken a turn for the worse. The sorceror is nowhere to be seen. Same could be said for the tabaxi. It was just he and the gnome against Belak and his thrall. Hargrem was down in the weeds, literally, and there was no way that he could stand. He pulled his crossbow and said a quick prayer to Tymora. This was his only shot of downing the druid. His goddess answered his prayer, as the bolt went sailing through the air. It landed perfectly into Belak's gut, and he only hoped that it would be enough to end the threat.
Attack Belak: [1d20+4] = 19+4 = 23
Note: using inspiration to counter the effects of disadvantage due to being restrained & prone.
Damage: [1d8+2] = 6+2 = 8

Sky

An opening appears for Sky. Both of her foes are currently engaged with others and ignoring her. She could simply blend into the background and escape the battle. Live another day.

But the glory. The treasure. The songs to be sung!

Sky seems to make up her mind, pulls her rapier, and races right at Sharwyn. She raises the blade and plunges it down into the young human.

Kelben attempts another jab at Belak with his rapier but his blade sinks into the burlap material of the druid's robes without catching flesh. "Guess I'm gonna die fighting," the gnome utters aloud with a hint of distress in this voice.

Sky contemplates simply disappearing; fleeing to live another day. What kind of bard could live with that kind of story?

"To the end," she thinks to herself, then races at Sharwyn! With her rapier raised over her head, she plunges it down into the young, human/tree hybrid and chips off chunks of dark, gray barky flesh. Sharwyn stumbles, reeling from the attack, but manages to remain on her feet.

Belak, tracking Sky's progress across the area, refocuses and turns his attention back to Kelben. Still wielding his magically enhanced quarterstaff, he brings it around and just misses with a powerful strike that almost certainly would have marked the end of the gnome he'd been targeting.

Klilxuac continues to remain motionless, hopefully still clinging to life.

Sharwyn, not accustomed to being in close combat, appears surprised when Sky attempts to run her through with her rapier. She produces a dagger, and in what was likely a very lucky strike, issues a deep cut, drawing blood, which discolors Sky's fur coat.

Hargrem, accepting his entangled condition, struggles to free and arm his crossbow. Saying a quick prayer to Tymora, he watches as his bolt sinks perfectly into Belak's gut! The druid gasps; dropping his quarterstaff to free both hands, which he uses to grasp the projectile. With blood spilling out the side of his mouth, he efforts to pull the quarrel out of his lower chest -- but the strength in his legs gives completely and his form goes weak; he falls face forward, landing flat on the dirt floor, the force of the fall driving the bolt completely through his torso.

The Twig Blights continue their slumber.
