I was going by this passage from the 1e DMG:ravenn4544 wrote:For the overhead press, the version of the 2e PHB PDF i have shows this for OH press, if you were interested. Practically speaking - you're calculation is close enough
18/00 - 480lbs
19 - 640lbs Hill Giant
20 - 700lbs Stone Giant
21 - 810lbs Frost Giant
22 - 970lbs Fire Giant
23 - 1,130lbs Cloud Giant
24 - 1,440lbs Storm Giant
25 - 1,750lbs Titan
Exceptional Strength: Assume further that a strength of 18 indicates that the creature can lift weight equal to its own body weight, or 180 pounds, whichever is the greater, above its head. This rating is modified by a restriction that no creature of human/humanoid nature can lift more than twice its own body weight above its head. A human with an 18 strength and an additional percentile dice roll is able to lift 1 additional pound for every percentage point up to and including 50%, 4 pounds for every percentage point from 51% to 90%, and 8 pounds for each percentage point from 91% to 00%

Yeah. Sorry guys. I don't know why I did that. Hopefully I dont get us all killed. If I do, feel free to desecrate Garrin's body....Yrkoon wrote:Crom's teeth, Garrin! What are you doing, man? That's suicide!
How do we know you're not a donkey-brained man?

Hi Yrkoon. Mako is awake.Yrkoon wrote:1) What is the situation with Mako? Is he conscious or not? Does he need to be carried out of the hovel?
Unless they are "charging," a character can move 1" and attack. Either way, movement always precedes attack.Yrkoon wrote:2) Can a character attack and then move? Move and then attack? Does the order matter?
Yes, as per the DMG 1e it gives a free attack at +2 to hit their rear AC. The character can use their full movement.Yrkoon wrote:3) Does running away invite an attack of opportunity?
Also, running past an opponent, within 1" of them, invites an attack of opportunity as well.
It's possible, but doesn't cancel the free attack on the character fleeing a melee. It negates the +2 to be hit, but the retreating character can only move half speed at most, because they are moving backwards. There must be room enough to back up for this maneuver to be attempted. The retreating PC cannot attack.Yrkoon wrote:4) Is a fighting retreat possible, thereby cancelling said attack of opportunity
Fyi, characters who slay all opponents within 1" are no longer "in a melee" until they are attacked by a new opponent.

Hey gang,
I was away from my computer this weekend so my next DM post will be on Thursday or Friday. This should give those players who haven't posted yet a chance to do so.
Hope you all had a great weekend!

Re: A World Apart (ooc and questions lll)
Thanks for the explanation. I'll probably refer back to your post quite often when considering future moves.
To be clear,
- turning and running invites a +2 attack to a character's rear AC, but the character can move at full speed.
- a character doing a fighting retreat moves at half speed, cannot attack, and invites an attack of opportunity to his/her frontal AC with no bonus or penalty.
Do I have that right?

Re: A World Apart (ooc and questions lll)
Yes, with one minor clarification added below, in bold.
And a fighting retreat needs empty space behind the character to safely back up into.
Also, the PC cannot attack under either option.Yrkoon wrote: To be clear,

He can, assuming he acts before an opponent can fill the space.
Got it. Fyi, it's not a hallway but a street that is outside Tjoruy's hovel in the labyrinthine underground city.SocraticLawyer wrote: If so, Garrin steps over the body of the masked attacker, moving into the hallway.

Hi OM,OGRE MAGE wrote:Xorxen does as commanded by Kiri, stabbing and running along with the others...
Because Xorzen is engaged in melee, I'm assuming these actions are meant to cover two rounds:
1) stabbing
2) running
Unless I hear different, that's how I'll play it. Will post this afternoon.
Thanks.

Yes, sorry for my poor choice of wording.
Stab first and ask questions later. Then run after that.

Hey Socratic and Yrkoon,
Fyi, here's my post from last week:
Fyi:
A red X atop a green V is a dead body.

Fyi, here's my post from last week:
I was wrong here. A masked Verulian is already in the front doorway, getting an opportunity attack on Cruloc as he withdrew from the melee, and blocking Garrin's attempted exit. So I had Garrin attack him with his dagger.Inferno wrote: At the front door of Tjoruy's hovel, Garrin joins Cruloc in holding the line as the barbarian savagely murders a second masked under-dweller! Re: A World Apart (ooc and questions lll)
If garrin wants to try and close the front door, amethu could cast hold portal on it - it won't last long tho.
He also has enlarge but i can't think of way to use it here - can't enlarge the hovel to make a difference, could enlarge Garrin 40% for 2 turns - that may help his strength and hps a little...

Re: A World Apart (ooc and questions lll)
The hovel has no doors. It had curtains, hung in the doorframe, that were cut away by the masked madmen.
Re: A World Apart (ooc and questions lll)
Does it look like the people fighting in the hallway are making any progress? In other words, does it look like a gap will open which Cruloc can move into? If yes, he'll aim to do that. If no, he'll try to return to Garrin's side at the front door. He'll wait and see what Amethu and Zahra do.
Another question: I'm not sure of the scale of the map. If Cruloc returns to the front, can he move normally and attack, or does he need to charge?

Not yet, but that could change next round.Yrkoon wrote:Does it look like the people fighting in the hallway are making any progress?
There is none now. As to whether one will open in the future, only the dice can say.Yrkoon wrote:In other words, does it look like a gap will open which Cruloc can move into?
If-then statements are permitted. You can include one in your IC post.Yrkoon wrote: If yes, he'll aim to do that. If no, he'll try to return to Garrin's side at the front door.
The street outside the hovel is 10 feet wide. Each character marker on the map covers an area approximately 5' x 5'.Yrkoon wrote:I'm not sure of the scale of the map. If Cruloc returns to the front, can he move normally and attack, or does he need to charge?
He'll need to charge in order to stand beside Garrin and attack this round.
He can only charge once per turn (10 rounds), fyi.

That's some creative thinking right there from Kiri.
