Welcome, Bluetongue! (although I think Rob oversold it by calling the rest of us "gentlemen".)
Sometimes this summer I will most likely be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

You know, I'll probably get Wes thrown out of the Druid's Union, but that image of the shark/whale(?), sticking his head out of the water with Wait! You speak our language? on his lips, and then getting the ZAP! STAB! SPEAR! SLASH! treatment had me  all afternoon.

I am glad it made an impression on you. Now.......say 10 Hail Obad-Hai's for your penance. ;)

Really good stuff from everyone so far!!! If this is the type of player participation we can expect normally, this should be a really great game!

I did a serious face-palm on this! So many times incidents like this happen in AD&D.

Yeah. I picked Faerie Fire over Speak With Animals at the beginning of the encounter because I thought they were too far away, and wouldn't hear it under water. I figured FF would help everybody do enough damage to drive them off in the first couple of rounds. Then the dice went to crap, everybody missed (except the whales!) and suddenly the ship is sinking  . So I went with SWA to try and stall them and of course everybody scores hit after hit. :)

Still, I don't know how we could have negotiated with them anyway, other than by offering to toss another couple of grannies over the side. And that still would have been a typical AD&D moment :D

I was waiting for someone to suggest just throwing a few commoners overboard.

The needs of the many and all that. :D
