P.T. Codswallop, halfling impresario:

Phineas unhappily closes his empty hand and thinks, That's what I get for befriending paupers!

In the library, he gives the skeleton a wide berth as he looks behind fallen bookcases and inside the drawers of toppled tables and desks.

Kragg rolls his eyes at the sight of another skeleton. "Well a lantern might be useful if you expect the skeletons to come alive and attack as they did in the tower where i got the horn."

Wil will proceed to handily dismantle the skeleton on the stairs to prevent it from animating.

Being learned men, Yon and Osprey recognize the value of the written word and begin to scour the area for anything salvageable. They rummage through the piles of rotten and mildewed debris to uncover the following texts and scrolls:

- two dense tomes discussing the rites and practices of Lunia worth 30 gp each.

- three illustrated scrolls of elvish poetry. Osprey is familiar with the poet and identifies the famous works that celebrate nature and the heavenly bodies. They are worth about 15 gp each.

- a rather thick book focusing on world religions and metaphysical philosophies worth 50 gp.

- a scroll mapping the patterns of the constellations rendered in gold leaf worth 50 gp.

Phineas has a look behind the bookcases, beneath the tables, and inside the desk drawers; however, he finds nothing except a couple of vials of dried ink, some old writing-plumes, and a few yellowed sheets of parchment.

Leery of the skeleton on the stairs, Wil climbs the steps to dismantle its bones (Raven, please give me a percentile roll).

Trusty Yon, Human Cleric

"These look interesting, and well preserved," says Yon. He'll put the first two volumes and the astrological scroll in his pack, forgoing the thick book as potentially cumbersome to carry. He'll leave the poetry scrolls for Osprey, assuming the elf will want to study them in his leisure time - elves are crazy for that kind of thing, he's heard.

Assuming the lantern isn't destroyed as Will dismantles the skeleton, Yon will then examine it for any markings or runes. Perhaps it has a purpose, as does the horn...

Kragg readies his sword in the event the skeleton does animate. Entering and standing in the middle of the room of the lower level of the old library.

Osprey Palearctic, elven fighter/magic-user

Osprey takes a moment to admire the elven poetry and then tucks the three poetry scrolls into his pack (inside the scroll case for protection). The large tome he moves to be right inside the door in case they have time to retrieve it before they leave the grounds. He then looks around for any dry rags he could soak in oil for making fire arrows.

Wil hears the decrepit stairs groan, and he feels them bow beneath his feet as he climbs to approach the skeleton. He reaches the bones and scatters them to no effect.

Yon collects the two religious texts on Lunia along with the gold leaf scroll while Osprey gathers the scrolls of elven poetry. The elf also picks up the heavy tome on religions and philosophy and places it near the entrance so that it might be retrieved later. Osprey then looks around for any dry pieces of cloth that might be used for constructing fire arrows. The only possibility he sees are the rags that clothe the skeleton on the stairs.

Yon decides to ascend the stairs in order to have a closer look at the lantern. He also hears the old wood moan loudly and feels the stairs buckle precariously under his weight; however, he reaches the lantern safely and finds nothing suggesting that it is anything but ordinary. It is definitely beyond repair as three of its four glass panes have been broken.

Phineas helps himself to some writing implements, Hexalon and Kragg stand ready to react to any threats, and Aric tends to his blade while waiting for the others to collect their 'kindling'.

Would you please toss down the rags from the skeleton while you are up there?

When he has the rags Osprey will begin tearing them into strips and then apply oil to them. He will make 10 fire arrows.

He also makes a search for any secret/hidden doors.

Before departing the library, some of the company decide to investigate further. Osprey, Hexalon, and Kragg have notions that there might be more to this place than what was initially seen.

The elf, the halfling, and the dwarf circle the room searching for any concealed portals or doors. Hex peers under the staircase then abruptly stops.

The observant illusionist slowly inches his way forward then stoops lower to crawl beneath the staircase. He crouches under the stairs where the bottom step joins the floor then brushes aside some debris. As he does, he notices an odd seam in the floorboards that does not quite match-up with the other planks.

Aric, barbarian

The scarred young man of the north seems in deep concentration as he finishes sharpening his blade. He starts gathering pebbles, 100 of them.
