11. Beneath the Castle

#1 Post by Zhym »

Date: Trieluna 13, 1222
Time: 7:55 PM
Weather: Fog
Location: Castle Ravenloft, Staircase
**************************************

Agax and Bragar lead the way back down the stairs (with some jostling for position). Agax stops at the last dry step and dips the light on his staff into the inky water. The light vanishes below the surface where the only sign of its presence is a small spot on the surface of the water that is only slightly less black than the surrounding liquid. The light illuminates nothing beneath the surface.

Castran, once the way is clear, will walk over the water and try and seek a way out of this chamber whilst the others search for the gypsy

Agax Gryyg, game mage:

The dreaming wizard looks down upon the tiny bright spot. "Well, that's rather unenlightening," he says gravely.

Then he smiles broadly, almost manically, as he raises the glowing lantern box from the black pool.
"Come, brave adventurers! Join me in saving a beautiful damsel in distress, won't you?
"The water should be empty. If there were more wights, they would have attacked with the others. And if there were hungry fishes, the wights would have eaten them."

Agax wades in and tries to find Scarlett where she was last seen.

There are faint cries for help from beyond the south door...and now there are cries for help from beyond the door to the north!

Based on how deep Scarlett was in the water and Agax's probes, the water is about 3' deep.

Gragog "Rather interesting dragging the bottom with your weapon if you found her you could bludgeon her accidentally. If that's the search we perform might I just poke my spear into the water until we see blood, it'd have about the same effect." the half-orc says grimly.

Shinyah, Druid

The druid will try to get down the stairs, so that he may aid in the search for the missing Scarlett.

Agax Gryyg, game mage:

"Excellent suggestion!" Agax exclaimed with admiration.
If he was the one who found himself in the water, he would tie a rope around his waist and throw the end to those on the stairs. Then, by the light on the top of his staff, he gently prodded the bottom of the staff under the water, searching for Scarlett.

Gragog merely stands around watching for more wraiths while the others search for Scarlett.

Will Agax and Bragar take any precautions to keep their gear dry? And does Bragar follow Agax or will they proceed side-by-side?

Yes, thanks.

Agax will leave his non-waterproof items (scrolls and such) with Lar on the stairs.

As he plumbs the depths, he will drift toward the new, second voice. Should he reach it alive, he'll say softly, "Scarlett, my dear? Is that you?"

The water extends forward all the way down the hall and into the room beyond. There is nowhere to toss the backpack to keep it dry other than on the stairs behind you. And backpacks are not normally water-tight. If the backpack is submerged in the water, anything that's in the backpack will get soaked.
