Ch. 7: The Crypt of Acererak the Demi-Lich

After some discussion, Zoster places the gold key into the keyhole. A section of wall next to the keyhole sinks into the floor.

You see a smallish 10'x20' vault that has an arched ceiling with a 25' peak. There is absolutely nothing in the room. A small depression, a few inches deep and about 2' square in the center of the floor, seems to be the room's only feature.

Is Zoster summoning the fire elemental, assuming it can stick around for a while?

Dredd eyed the square inset suspiciously and rumbled, "Now what do ye suppose goes in there?"

Xale moves forward, but not ONTO the depression and studies the rock/stone floor, walls and ceiling all around the area, trying to utilize Dwarven innate knowledge to see if there's any traps, changes in elevation, hidden/concealed entrances/exits, etc. in the area....

Xale notices a small hole in the middle of the depression. He sees nothing else of interest in the room.

Can we pause for a moment and rejoice in the fact that we are temporarily still alive?

... once that passes Malibran will follow-suit in looking for secret doors on any surface he can examine. He will also stay away from the depression on the floor.

Malibran also finds nothing of interest.

Let's assume everyone searches through the room. No one finds anything other than the 2' depression in the center of the room with a small hole in the center. The hole is roughly the same size and shape as the keyhole that opened this room.

Dredd Doomsmith, dwarven trap-hacker:

"Would ye care to try the key again, Zoster?" Dredd asked.

Malibran also finds nothing of interest.

Is this key we found on the stairs outside the mithril door the same size as the key that opened the last door? If so, he'll try that one first instead.

"Sure, Dredd" replies Zoster, getting a bit cocky at this point. "How about you check the wall left of here? Left and left, and all that."

[Inferno]

Dredd wags his thick head and searches all left hand walls for secret doors.

[Zhym]

The bronze key from the foyer fits in the hole. Nothing happens when Zoster inserts it, however.

Dredd again finds nothing of interest (moving right past what "all left-hand walls" would be).

"Perhaps the other key or rod?" ventures Elsa from back near the door.

[Zhym]

What next?

Zoster tries the other key.

[Zhym]

When Zoster puts the gold key in the hole, the key explodes! He flies several feet into the air before landing with a thud. (-16 HP)

"F*ck this Acererak!" growls Zoster.

He pulls mistletoe from his pouch and calls upon the powers of nature to aid his healing.

[Zhym]

Zoster heals some of the wounds he received from the explosion.

Xale sympathizes with the Druid, but then asks; "This may be a stupid question, but when you put the bronze key in; did you try turning it either direction?"

"Turn out ye pockets, lads and lasses," Dredd rumbled as he emptied his own. "What else have we found that could fit in that keyhole?"
