Having Fun Storming the Castle

#1 Post by OGRE MAGE »

I thought it might make initial group preparations easier if I detailed this first encounter that you will see. You can continue on with the great discussion as to what to do in the OOC thread until the group is actually ready to fly. Thanks.

Death From the Sky
Round 1

After several more hours of group preparation, healing, and rest, the two aarakocra scouts swoop back in to address the war party. They tell you that they found the giants castle and it is heading in this direction. It will arrive in less than an hour. Final preparations are made.

At about a mile away, you begin to see the dark grey cloud castle floating directly towards Tchitchi-Kwaaka. It looks very ominous and appears bent on the final destruction of the Aarakocra race. It's elevation is about 200 yards above the mountain tops and it looks to be descending. You then see the first wave of snow demons exit the castle. They immediately spread out into attack formation while diving in to begin the onslaught.

You see a total of 10 white snow demons in this first squad. (still a few rounds away) Two leader types that are out in front and 8 more soldiers following behind, all of them are spread out and at different elevations.

Morgi finishes his protection spells, stuffs his ears with wax and casts Call Lightning and Summon Insects and Control Winds, takes to the air on the broom. Looking like a second skyfish, he maneuvers so that he can field the incoming attacks solo. As the demon swarm is drawn his way, he activates the additional wind velocity kicker to surround himself with a hurricane of fierce winds.

He directs the swarm to the castle while awaiting the first of the lightning strikes. Sheathing his scimitar he readies his Rod of Absorption to deal with any incoming attacks.

OK, let's do this. Use some patience. I assume Morgi has the illusion of another skyfish.

Trotter mounts Dashiell. I'm set, he says, as he grips his bow in one hand, arrows at the ready.

Mira stares wide-eyed at the oncoming wave of death. Last stand, she thinks, No walking away from here without blood. Seeing Morgi hopping astride her broom and giving her a nod, she finds her place aboard the Skyfish and whispers the sacred line bringing Lolo from his urn. She begs him to call light, color, texture and sound together around the Druid.

Spectral Force
Of course, my Child, of course. The apparition answers affectionately, and appears to spin into a wispy whirlwind.

Morgi suddenly appears to be seated in a Skyfish of his own. The Illusionist realizes keeping the vision in place about the Druid while he flies, dips, weaves and dodges would be challenging in the best of circumstances, thus will keep her eyes sharp on him. We mustn't stray too far from Morgi, she announces quietly, Not more than 140 feet away. That is the maximum distance my disguise will remain, and it should be far enough to keep us safe from his lightning. We shouldn't use the Skyfish' weapons until we land at the castle, lest the craft itself lose it's shroud of Invisibility.

Morgi, does that apply to all of us? asks the diminutive Ranger. Should we hold fire until your word for fear of spoiling the spell?

Wyntar takes his place behind the "wheel" of the skyfish. Let us think wisely as our next actions could render dire consequences. Mira let me know when we should be off and Good luck to us all!

The paladin, invisible on his invisible ebony fly (I think) will take off and keep his short bow at the ready, not attacking until the party are ready and the ruse discovered.

Blodget woke up, stretched, scratched his ample belly, yawned, climbed into the skyfish, rubbed his eyes and said, “Are we there now?

Xano- Knowing that Halfling was sleeping hands him some wax. Blodget put this in your ears it will protect from the flying demons screams. She then puts some wax into her ears. She will also wax the string on her bow with.

Blodget, halfling thief:

The young hobbit nodded dutifully, if sleepily, and did as he was told, filling his pointed ears with wax.

"THANK YOU, MY LADY!" he shouted unknowingly, unable to hear himself.

The skyfish listens to Wyntar's commands and takes off, staying to the left of Morgi, but still within Mira's preferred range. He holds off putting wax in his ears, in the event his friends require him to make a flight adjustment, he'll be able to hear it. Wyntar will also hold action to see what is needed until after Morgi gets his spells off.

Ok, let's get this thing off the ground!

At top speed, it will take the skyfish approximately 10 rounds to reach the distance and climb to the 300' cruising elevation of the cloud castle. (1 large hex per round in a straight line path)

The first wave of snow demons will be within attack range in approximately 5 rounds, unless their path is diverted. That leaves the first 4 rounds for you to maneuver into whatever formations you'd like.

I will post the enemies positions and altitudes at the beginning of each round. I will also indicate whether they are climbing, diving, or flying level. Zero altitude will be considered the tops of the mountains. Flying any lower than that will bring in the possibility of crashing.

Unless some kind of plan or signals are set up beforehand, you will have very limited communications between the 4 separate flyers once you set out. The ear wax will also make any verbal communication nearly impossible. Wyntar will be the only one allowed to post adjustments to the flight pattern of the invisible skyfish. (but OOC discussion and strategizing is highly encouraged) I will keep the default action set for the craft to move directly towards the cloud castle unless informed otherwise.

Begin with your questions......................now. :D

And So It Begins.....

The eagles and aarakocra agree to hold back, staying behind you at the start of the attack, but only because they think it will improve the chance of the invisible infiltration being successful. They let you know that they will fill in from behind wherever it is necessary once the battle begins.

The shaman Kirraka and the remaining aarakocra fly off in the opposite direction of the castles approach, wishing you well with saddened, fearful eyes as they depart their final refuge.

Movement and Actions for Round One Please!

You will start out flying level and at 0 altitude. You can move up to your entire movement rate either forward, straight up, or any combination in between. You can also dive at double your movement rate. EXAMPLE: If your move is 30", you could climb to an elevation of 150' while also moving 150' forward, all in the same round. Or, 600' straight down. etc.

This is the enemies formation just after leaving the castle and diving towards you. They are all flying straight ahead and directly at you. The white dots are the snow demons and the yellow are the two leader types.

Wyntar

Unless told otherwise, Wyntar commands the invisible skyfish straight ahead 120' and raises its elevation to 30'. He is amazed at how lifelike Mira and her magical friends illusions look.

He watches Morgi's every move knowing that he must stay within the allotted 140' distance.

Trotter will follow suit. He will try to keep tight behind and to the right of the Skyfish, as if in a vanguard formation.

Morgi takes a direct path to the foe, convinced in his attempt to draw and withstand the attacks of the foe.
He trusts in the belief that his compatriots stay out of sight, but near by.

I suppose 20 up and forward

Tho the majority of Mira's focus is tight on Morgi, she gropes toward the sound of Blodget's voice until she finds and covers his mouth.
