9 - Undermountain Trip 5
Re: 9 - Undermountain Trip 5
The mages guild has no amulets or charms for fire protection, but a guild alchemist can brew potions of fire protection, and charges 3000gp for each. Dragon fire is very powerful, but these potions would blunt the effects of the fire.
In addition the same enchanter who is putting the charm on Veks blade can work a Scroll of Protection from Fire but it would be centered on the wizard who uses it and thirty feet around them, the potions can be used by any character. The scroll offers complete protection even from the plane of fire, but costs 5000gp.

Re: 9 - Undermountain Trip 5
On the spells, to learn those splles you are at a substantial penalty. Copying them perfectly is difficult, but the clerk at the watchful order has a spell tgat exactly copies spells from one book to another. He charges 500gp per spell.
The guild would give you 1000gp for the spell book, the rarity of the spells is offset by the language they are scribed in.
Roseheart needs only make a learn spells check with a +10% bonus for tutoring.

Tella - Elf Mage
OCC:
Tella will trade the drow spellbook straight across for the copying service.
She will use the monies (comes to 5380gp w/ her share of Gannon's loot) left in her room at the house for the scroll of fire protection and 1 x 2d4 + 2 healing potion. 80gp left over.
She will use the remaining 80gp + 22pp on her to purchase an additional 2d4 + 2 healing potion (bringing the total carried to 4 in her inventory, she had 2 already).
Personal and room inventories updated, monies/gems subtracted.
Did the mages guild have anything to say about the dragon camping under the city or the wizards caring for it?

Re: 9 - Undermountain Trip 5
A red dragon living in Undermountain was news to the Mages Guild, although they have heard of the "Cult of the Dragon". Wizards get seduced into the cult, some by the promise of power, some because of the alliance the cult has with powerful dragons, and some because they really are crazy and worship dragons.
Mhair tells Tella that the primary thing that the cult has succeeded at is the creation of Dracoliches. They are dragon-liches, possibly immortal undead dragons, with terrible power. The dragons have to willfully drink a series of foul potions and there may be other rituals, nobody is certain. What is certain is that the potions kill the original dragon, and, if successful, a dracolich is born. Born of evil magic, dracoliches are even more powerful than original dragons they came from....
Most dragons in their prime resist the temptation, but as they age and begin to see the end of their long days, some dragons see the transformation into undeath as a way to remain in Faerun forever.

Yow.
Vek will sell Ganon's jewels and split the proceeds with Roseheart and Tella.
He'll give the Drow chest to the mages to sort out.
Thanks again, Dads!

Re: 9 - Undermountain Trip 5
Here are my notes on the worth of the gems from Ganons chest:
-1 bag with moonstones (25 stones, 100gp each, 2500gp worth)
-1 bag with bloodstones (35 stones, 100gp each, 3500gp worth)
The pearls were previously used to pay for an identify spell. The blue scarf I think is Tella's, the diamond earrings I'm not sure on .... Did anyone take them before? If not I'll give u a value on those as well.

Tantos Vek, failed paladin:
Wow. Thanks, DM and Dads. Looks like each PCs total cut is 3000 gp!
Vek buys 6 (2d4 +2) healing potions, and donates another 1000gp through his involuntarily volunteers, the bakers.
The failed paladin drops another heavy sack on their counter with a thud and grunts, "Here. See that this does the most good for the poor people of this neighborhood. You know who needs help better than I. Old widows. Orphaned kids. Good, struggling families. The sick and the lame. But none to the church.
"Hire people to help you do this, if you need to. I'll be back soon with more, and to check on your progress."
That Vek's greatest windfall came from the death of a friend was an irony not lost on the grim warrior.

Re: 9 - Undermountain Trip 5
Roseheart will buy 4 healing potions for 1200gp and pocket the rest for a rainy day.
Re: 9 - Undermountain Trip 5
Roseheart obviously learned lit bolt, you guys are well stocked with healing, Vek is just waiting on the enchantments for his sword, they take months to complete. I'll post about how we add on the new pc's once Dads, Hedge, ylin ,and yb n are ready.
Re: 9 - Undermountain Trip 5
I wasn't aware of that. If this holds up the party, then Vek will just look for a swap with an existing weapon. Thanks.Darkmane wrote: Vek is just waiting on the enchantments for his sword, they take months to complete.
Re: 9 - Undermountain Trip 5
I am pretty close, just need to price out equipment.
Re: 9 - Undermountain Trip 5
*Since all new PC's are almost fully formed, and I've time to post this morning, I'm going to kick start the meeting between the old and new PC's, YBN's new PC (whatever that will end up being) is going to be hanging out in the background for this discussion)*
After the decimation of your party, the weeks trudge by for Vek, Tella, and Roseheart. The once cramped apartment, that had been filled with six a year ago, is now only occupied by three. If actually fits 3 better than six, but you miss the cramped dinners around the small table, sharing jests and tales of glory and conquest with your partners. Vek's sword is finally finished, and you are ready to get back to adventuring, but with just two mages and a fighter, won't last long down in the dungeon!
Having firmly decided to continue adventuring, you look about the city to bolster your ranks. Inquiries at all the typical spots are futile, companies entering the Yawning Portal are either already quite large, or you don't like the personalities. A few more weeks go by and the three of you find yourselves in the Tavemple for some reason. Amazingly enough the Tavemple has continued to thrive even with the absence of Thorax and Cormack. There is a large group of working dwarves who come down to the Tavemple each night, and a few adventuring dwarves as well.
One of them, a dwarf named Hemralt, comes to your table and talks a bit with you. After a while, when you are speaking of looking for more adventurers to bolster your company, Hemralt says, I know of a couple adventurers you might be interested in talking to, they are new to the city and a few of them more comfortable underground than up here amongst the city streets. Apparently this is pretty common with a lot of dwarves who move to the city from the mines. There is a special bar that caters to folks called the Crawling Spider located not too far away in the Castle Ward.
Following Hemralt there, you find a squat, stone building amongst larger buildings. As you enter the building, you pass a single lady in leather armor, who points you down into a cellar, which has been plastered with porous stone walls. The porous stone has been used to cultivate glowing lichen and molds which leave the whole place smelling like yeasty beer.
There are stuffed cloth spiders hanging from the ceiling and other than a few lit drift-globes and the glowing lichens, there is no other light. The whole place is pretty cold, and damp. And the three of you are feeling a little misplaced, before Hemralt shows you to a table in a small cell like antechamber off the general taproom. The first thing you notice, is another smell, something foul... there is a red haired lady at the table, who looks quite greasy and unwashed, and might have something living in her hair!
There are four adventurers total at a table, who all look up at you. Hemralt makes introductions, and explains to both sides that each group is looking to bolster their groups and make a foray into Undermountain. He also explains that Vek, Roseheat, and Tella have experience down in the dungeon under the city, and know their way around the first level pretty well!
***I'll let you guys introduce yourselves in turn and start the conversation, YBN's character is a little drunk or something, so he/she just fades into the background for now...***

A small figure clad in dark leathers and a collection of leather straps ending in metal rings looks up from his drink. Pale of skin and long of beard this Dwarven looking Halfling asks in a deeply accented voice "Vek?"
Re: 9 - Undermountain Trip 5
Enoka Farore:
Enoka looks to the hafling "You known this man? Interesting."
She rises from table and extends her hand out to Vek. Her movement cause a millepede that was resting on her fingers to scurries under the cuff of her shirt.
"My you sure look strong. What large muscles you have. Enoka, Enoka Farore." She says with a smile.

Isabella Hawkwinter
Sitting as far from Enoka as possible is a another woman, dressed in splint mail and wearing a purple tunic with white trim. She has long black hair and blue eyes and is quite attractive. "Greetings and well met," she says, rising from her chair to shake each of your hands. "I am Isabella. It's nice to meet all of you. Would it be possible to conduct this...erm...interview outside where the air is a bit fresher?"
She can't help but glance at Enoka and smile.

Now it is Garl who laughs. Snorts more, very unhalfling like but without any maliciousness behind it. "I expect we will see..or smell much more of this soon enough. No other reason to ask me here."
