He smiled as Cauchy murdered innocent victims in the name of mercy and empathy.

As the others fixed Steve's stretcher, the merciless abomination said: "OUR NEXT ACTIONS DEPENDS ON OUR INTENT:

"SHALL WE SEEK AN AUDIENCE WITH THE MAYOR AND THEN, WHEN A HERMAPHRODITIC PORNOMANCER DECREES HER GUILTY, TRY TO ARREST HER BASED ON THAT TESTIMONY?"

When he stopped laughing, he continued:
"OR, KNOWING THAT SHE IS POSSESSED BY MORTIMER'S DEMON, DO WE BEST DEFEND OUR LIVES BY AMBUSHING AND MURDERING HER IMMEDIATELY?

"OR, LACKING THE STOMACH TO DO WHAT MUST BE DONE, DO WE VISIT THE OLD CRONE FOR INFORMATION ABOUT OUR ENEMY BEFORE DECIDING HOW BEST TO CONFRONT HER?

"I CHOOSE THE SECOND PLAN. YOU NEEDN'T THINK YOU SHOULD EXTEND TO EVERY ENEMY THE CHANCE TO KILL YOU FAIRLY," the fell creature laughed blackly.

"I never thought I would miss the insufferable Sir Uggha, how long is this going to last?" says the monk with a sigh.

"Perhaps it would behoove us to get the sheriff back to safety and then think about our next move." the sister suggests, assisting in gettin Steve out of the hole.

I do not believe the mayor is possessed by a demon. However, there is something not quite right about her. I sensed some sort of white noise in her head. I don't know what it means or its cause, but she did seem to be under quite some stress, which has affected her mind. It is like nothing I have encountered before.

"Yes, first get Steve some healing... then Old Crone. That's my vote," says Ozwaldus. His outfit suddenly shifts to a bright teal with lavender accents.

The group decides that getting Steve back is their next move. They are able to rig up a comfortable sling with the help of Epi and her equipment when she is done slaughtering innocents. They support the sheriff as best they can, but he doesn't complain in the least. In fact, he doesn't say anything at all. He just smiles, moaning in his pain and torment, knowing that his horrible ordeal may finally be coming to an end.

About halfway through the trek back into Brotherton, the monster Krual Caine begins his own horrific retransformation into the much more refined and noble Sir Ugghra.

"I don't think we should report anything about what we have found so far to the common population. Just because we discovered poor Steve still alive, that doesn't mean that everyone who has lost loved ones will be happy about it. Until we have more answers, we should keep these findings to ourselves. No point in getting folks hopes up too high until we know for certain what is going on here."

The trip back to town is completely uneventful. Epi finds no tracks of other creatures moving back and forth down the trail recently, other than your own. As you enter town, you catch a glimpse of that same hooded female that you noticed when you were leaving on your last trip. She is a ways off in the distance, but you are pretty sure that it is the same person. She watches you very closely, as if she is studying your every move. She again avoids any contact with you, departing if you attempt to get close to her.

Brother Tomas urges you to hurry along to the temple. You can decide you're next move from there.

"That elusive woman is disturbing," comments Orando. "I would like to question her."

"I had a long conversation with the crone. I'm not sure how forthcoming she'll be, but perhaps the group of us will have more influence on her."

[Storm11]

"If we could tag her somehow with a far reaching spell that might help us track her. Does she leave a trail to follow? How often have you seen her spying upon you?" Angella asks as she welcomes the half-Orc back to the fold.

Once steve is settled within Brother Tomas' abode the sister will ask the others what they plan. "I got one would like to meet the mayoress. If you can try and read her mind that might help, and try to know her aura. The spell's would need to be cast before we see her however. What say you all?"

"Does she leave a trail to follow? How often have you seen her spying upon you?"

"Well there is one way to find out. I'm willing to see what I can find. I only recall seeing her for the first time this morning, though I guess she could have watched from out of sight before then."

"The old crone alchemist is a witch of some power. I don't think she has been following or spying on us. She hardly seems to care about village life, but I think she knows more than she lets on. I get the sense she rarely leaves her hut, which is larger on the inside than outside. There have been new developments since I last spoke with her. Let us go then and see what we may find."

"After that we can plan our visit to the mayor."

"I have already visited with the potion maker. I think my time might be better spent searching for the trail of that figure; however, it would not seem wise to do so alone. Anyone interested in traveling with me?"

Angella will volunteer to accompany the ranger. "I am fast and quiet. Let the women go a hunting whilst the menfolk visits the witch!"

"At this point, I think it best we stay together," says Orando to Epi.

It is early evening by the time you get Positive Steve settled in at the temple. Brother Tomas tells you that he will stay with the poor soul throughout the night to ensure that everything possible is done to help the man. He urges you to try to find the Mayor in order to beg her about the possibility of using her miraculous ring, hoping that its powerful magic will regenerate the damage done to the unfortunate sheriff. The good Brother lacks the power to help the man any further than he already has but he knows that the ring will more than likely heal the man completely, as it did Lady April all those many years ago.

The Mayor will most assuredly not see you anymore tonight. You will either have to "sneak" into her place, or forget about it for now and go to see her at the town's meeting hall in the morning.

The group discusses the fact that they could cover more ground by splitting up, but Orando mentions what happened to the last pair that went running off on their own. The girls then decide it might be best to stick together.

On the way to see the old crone, an attempt is made to find the tracks of the woman that seems to be watching the group. Epi finds nothing in the way of tracks or a trail that she might use to follow the woman. There is simply no trace whatsoever left from the suspicious females movements.


The sun begins to set as the group then turns its attention towards the old alchemist that lives in a hut, down by the river. Knowing that the old woman doesn't come out during the daylight hours, the group tries their luck again. An initial knock on her door brings the usual silence from within, but persistence eventually garners a response. You can soon hear the old hag scream at you from inside of the old hut.

GO AWAY!!! Haven't you lot of misfits done enough to screw me over yet? It's not bad enough that your bumbling mage friend blew up my main source of income? Now you want to come and harass me in the sanctity of my own home as well?
