Ciar determines where the darts will fly when the trap is sprung. Then he ties one end of his linen twine to the trip wire and moves across to the other side of the room, making sure he is out of the line of fire of the darts before pulling the trip wire to disable the trap.

Fulp will watch for errant darts hoping his place in the back will further protect him, just in case.

After careful study, Ciar is able to determine how the tripwire will work, and that the darts will fly from one end of the northern passageway to the other. Still, to be safe, the halfling ties one end of his linen twine to the trip wire and moves to the other side of the room, making sure he is out of the line of fire, and, with a quick tug, successfully triggers the trap.

Ciar then returns to the trap, sees if he can salvage any of the trap material if it is good enough (trip wire, pulleys, etc), and then moves down the tunnel to see what is ahead.

Sylvan overhears Sorsha's question and turns to her, incredulous. "You really want to be smelling the ass end of that thing? Don't worry, I'm keeping an eye on them..."

I wasn't sure what you were talking about, so I went back and realize I totally missed your last post. I will work it into the next update.

Ciar scouts ahead and reports back that the cave’s northern end hooks around a corner to the east, into a small, oddly-shaped area, with a 5-foot-diameter hole in a small nook on the far end of it (26). A thick, knotted rope hangs down into the hole, which drops 20-feet to a deeper lever of the lair. "I could have told you that," Nighttail quips. "It goes down, then there's a tight squeeze, then..." the female kobold pauses a moment, considering her words. "Then," she repeats, re-starting her thought. "Then watch out for the pool... which is the furthest I've been into the lair, but I hear there's another whole level down after this next one, which is where the King -- or, soon-to-be ex-King -- is."

"I'm just sad Huk can't come."
she sighs, showing genuine emotion as she leans into her dinosaur companion and hugs its neck warmly.

"Is Huk going to be safe here?" asks Sylvan. "Don't like leaving him here on his own. But perhaps it can't be helped. Nighttail, what can we expect to encounter down there. Just more kobolds? Or are there animals down there too? Should we expect to be attacked immediately? If so, I have prepared a spell that should help us. Including you."

"Huk can take care of himself," Nighttail scoffs. "He was tricked; lured into the cave by the dead deer carcass last time, which I'm sure he won't do again. If anything, he can feast on anyone attempting to sneak past us," she says confidently.

"As for below, nothing immediate, but there are more of my kind, yes. There are also turtles in the pool; large as a shield, they are, and nasty creatures. They'll bite anything that enters their waters... so, best to stay out. I seen a few rats down there, too, but don't know much more about what's beyond the pool room, which is where I was assigned."

Sparrow puts his hand on the animal again, his own way of showing friendship I guess. He cringes a little when Nighttail says that Huk can feast on anyone attempting to sneak past.

There must be other entrances and exits in this complex. We need to keep close track of where we are and where we are going in here so we don't accidentally get ourselves surrounded. We must also be wary of setting off any alarms they might have set up for intruders. Like we just did. One false step in here and it could spell our demise.

After the impromptu lecture, he follows Ciar down to the next level, preparing his bow when he gets to the bottom.

"Hold up!" Bingus hisses to Ciar. "Those turtles sound like trouble. I can make the two of us invisible to them. Nighttail, will torchlight give us away to your kind below?"

"The way ahead is the only way I know of," Nighttail admits. "Hmmm... the landing below just has some small pools... and frogs!" she says excitedly to Sylvan, remembering them now, after forgetting to include them in her previous inventory of creatures down below. "The frogs are harmless, though, as we just breed them for food, you know, but there may be a guard," she adds sheepishly. "It's just a lookout, and is usually the laziest amongst the tribe, but we would station someone there to warn of intruders... like us."

With just the single rope leading to the depths below, the group faces a single-file descent to the area below. "I can't go first," Nighttail says solemnly, sliding off her dinosaur mount, allowing Sparrow a brief moment to approach and touch her companion before wrapping her bruised wrists around its neck. "If there is a guard, and it sees me, freed..." she explains. "It'd be trouble, and they would likely know Huk is free, too," she adds, giving her mount a loving squeeze. "Besides the pools, and maybe guard, there's just a tight tunnel, cluttered with rubble, which leads away from the area where you'll land. It's about 20-feet long, then turns sharply right and runs another 20-feet before ending in the turtle room." Seeing some of the larger, human-sized members of the group, especially those with bulkier armor, she adds: "The tunnel leading from the this landing will be a tight squeeze for some of you."

"Anyway, if there are no more questions, I would like a few extra moments with Huk."

Actions?

I will just need some sort of a plan here. Is everyone going down? In what order (even roughly; I primary need to know who's going first so I can share with them their findings in their private forum)?

Ciar passes his Everbright Torch to Fulp again (temporarily) and indicates he will sneak down using his dark vision to see if there is a guard and to see if he can remove the guard without making any further noise.

"Invisible don't work in the dark, Bingus. It's our body heat what gives us away. Besides, I'll stay clear of the pools as best I can. Just want to see if there is a guard."

Then Ciar sneaks down the rope...
