7-Undermountain, Trip 3: Gratecrashers
Re: 7-Undermountain, Trip 3: Gratecrashers
Are you guys going to push forward and engage the ghostly figures, or try to slink backward and follow the main path out of the cavern?

Glimble is being quiet and unmoving awaiting a signal from the scouts.

Thorax too is waiting with Cormack.
Re: 7-Undermountain, Trip 3: Gratecrashers
Ok, let's see how Ganon plays this then. He is perhaps 30 feet in front of where the rest of the party stopped. You guys can see the lights, but not the figures.

Tantos Vek also awaits the scout's report, his hand upon the hilt of his sword.GreyWolfVT wrote:Glimble is being quiet and unmoving awaiting a signal from the scouts.

Ganon:
Ganon quietly sneaks back to the party.
"Something weird up ahead. I'm not sure what it is I saw. Two figures a man and a women, but there not really there. I can see straight through them, it's creepy. Both of them are speaking but I can't tell what they are saying. Other than that they don't look like a threat. Do you think they are victims of a spell gone wrong?"

Glimble puzzled expression shows how deep in thought he is then he speaks "It very well could be though what kind of spell I know not, But if memory serves me there is that possibility that they are stuck here that or there is an illusionist about and this is merely to trick and scare off folks."

Tella - Elf Mage
Hmmm... could be they are damned souls, could be a message. Should we wander over and see if they feel like talking?

Tantos Vek, failed paladin:
Vek had been trained that ghosts were dangerous undead, but he would leave it to the wizards and priests to decide.

Ok - I'll move you guys forward to speak to the ghosts/illusions tomorrow morning. Anybody want to be the "spokesperson" for the group?
If so, what do you say

OOC-
Sorry I haven't moved you guys forward here, but I'm not sure how you guys would like to approach these figures:
Charge in wands and swords blazing cut these ghosts up ? Weapons out, but talking? Or waving friendly flag, and trying to communicate in a friendly way? Are you trying to get info from them, etc.?
Let me know if one of you wants to take the lead here, and how you approach. They appear like they didn't notice Ganon, so alternatively, you guys could just skirt around them leaving them in the dust and see if you can find the eventual way into Undermountain proper.

I'd nominate Tella or our Dwarf Cleric Glimble's no luck with undead if they are genuine ghosts I'd have bad luck since i cannot turn undead.

Re: 7-Undermountain, Trip 3: Gratecrashers
You walk over to where the ghostly figures had been, but the lights have faded and there isn't anything there. You all rib Ganon a bit, "Scary specters, for sure Ganon!" He takes it well, and you guys head off through the cavern following the main path.
You head down through more cellars, and vaults, wondering how they could have all been connected over time. Who made all the tiny tunnels, rusty hanging grates that were pushed away to allow underworld traffic to pass. The gnomes and dwarves of your party are sure you've been heading deeper, but finally you come to small square of raised brick with boards almost fully covering a hole heading straight down.
Peering down through tiny cracks you see nothing at first but then a loud clap of thunder echoes up through the boards, and a flash of light... lightning! You must be at the entry point to Undermountain that Wally described, but there is something creating lightning down there...
*the boards aren't pinned or nailed and can be moved easily*

Re: 7-Undermountain, Trip 3: Gratecrashers
How regular is the lightning? Is it like a bolt or two thrown in battle or some Eldrich machinery spitting numerous bolts regularly?

OOC_ @spanning, thanks for the heads up! Will do!
Thorax peers through the boards down into the room. He counts heartbeats in-between lightning strikes... 7, 8, crack!!! Roughly 8 heartbeats between strikes. The strikes seems to mostly shoot in one direction, but sometimes the lightning jumps around the room, bouncing along walls. Thorax is also able to see that these blasts seem to originate from something huge, and made of stone, which casts freakish shadows around the room, quickly flinging themselves in the wake of the brilliant blue-white blasts.

"Glimble, this looks like something for you to examine" said Thorax relaying his findings.

Re: 7-Undermountain, Trip 3: Gratecrashers
In order to get a better view you guys are forced to pull up two of the boards. Glimble looks down into the room from above, indeed there is a massive stone statue in the room, lit every 8 seconds by lightning blasts. Glimble watches the pattern of lightning until he feels like he is going to have a seizure from the amount of white floaters that have accumulated. By dropping straight down into the room from where you are, it doesn't look like you will be struck, unless you get very unlucky with a random bounce. After that if you move toward the doors to the room, the danger level seems to increase. There does appear to be one door that hasn't yet been filled with lightning, it may be fairly safe, unless this whole thing changes pattern from time to time...
Re: 7-Undermountain, Trip 3: Gratecrashers
"If your gnomish curiosity or religious beliefs do not compel you, then I will take the lead" said Thorax not understanding the jest.
