OOC

#1 Post by Grognardsw »

For DM questions, comments, jokes and other out-of-character stuff.

I'll start off with some quick rules notes.

Rules
- AD&D 1e. For those who don’t have those books, OSRIC (free PDF at http://www.knights-n-knaves.com/osric/d ... /OSRIC.pdf) can serve, though AD&D 1e charts, etc. will have priority. And I’m available of course for any questions.
- Weapon specialization available to single-classed fighters and rangers only, per Unearthed Arcana Additions and Corrections published in Dragon Magazine, Nov., 1985

House Rules
- Not many, I go by the book.
- Group initiative is used. I roll for each side.
- Natural 20 is a critical hit, double damage. Natural 1 is always a miss, with 50% negative consequences to self or others determined by DM whim.
- Character multiple attacks (e.g. a bow attack with 2 arrows per round): the second attack occurs at the end of the round. For 3/2 attacks, the two attacks happen on the second round of combat.
- When firing missiles into melee: if you miss, there is a 50% chance you hit someone else. That someone else is determined by logic or, if multiple targets, is rolled for randomly.
- For touch attacks (e.g. Shocking Grasp), the defender's AC is just Dex. bonus if any. One is not trying to penetrate armor or hide, just touch. However, if an AC is based heavily on speed, the AC will remain.
- Interrupted rest rule for spellcasters. I've been loose on this, believing if one gets mostly rest but is interrupted in a minor way it shouldn't cancel previous rest. A major interruption will have more impact. Major being more than 10 rounds of heavy action (combat, or running, or spell casting, etc.) will ruin the rest. 1-2 rounds is no effect on rest. 3-10 rounds requires spellcaster to make a Know Spell roll for each spell they attempt to learn/ pray for after the rest. Clerics use Magic User chart, with Wis. in place of Int.
- Please link rolls to the campaign, number 271. On-the-fly rolls don't count.

Posting
- Every other day, daily if all of you prefer.
- Please start each post with character name / class at top.
- I like to spoiler dice roll results, it makes for a cleaner IC thread.
- Please keep OOC chat or questions out of the Action thread and in the OOC thread, or in spoilers.

Thanks!

I am rolling up a mage and have a few questions:

Do you allow followers/pets/etc.?

Are you intending this to be a one-shot or would you, assuming all goes well, run this as a campaign?

How do we get magic items?

ETA: I see the rule now.

You can have a pet. I suppose a hireling, but not a follower at 6th.

Considering how long adventures can take in PbP, probably a one shot. But who knows maybe longer into a campaign.

I'll be getting back with details to those who've told me their magic item type preferences.

Thanks.

Ok, I'm doing something wrong I think. I started a character and got the stats all saved, but it won't let me pick a class to go to the next step. Am I missing something? I've literally clicked everywhere.

FYI, I was gong to go Druid, but if we need another fighter I'm ok with switching. I'd be a Barbarian (cannibal), but I'm guessing they aren't very friendly...

Feel free to PM me with any questions. Druid or cannibal is fine either way.

Personally, I think a Druid might be a BIG help in a jungle-esque setting; but go with whatever you want to play amigo; if it helps; I'm playing a Fighter.

Another vote for a druid here. Apart from the super-helpful nature spells, the druid in my Giants game essentially creates a mini-army with a few charm or summon spells!

I'm cool with a druid. Do I roll up hit points and starting gold myself and just pick out equipment or is that provided? It's been a while since I made a character from scratch. Let's see. rations, torches, rope, a scimitar, a wooden shield and some kind of armor, yeah? I'm sure I'm missing a lot if someone wants to PM basic gear recommendations.

I'm lame. I'm going to do the old "Western" druid archetype.

Someone really should be a cannibal. Barbarians are awesome once they hit 6th level and can hang out with mages.

(Just don't eat me please.)

Hi all, it seems characters are coming together. If they can be wrapped up this weekend we can start Monday. Please post the sheets up in the Character Thread.

If you haven't requested your three magic item types, let me know.

Thanks.

Characters look good. Tomorrow I'll get things rolling IC. Will drop Marcanus' dwarf in if/when he finishes.

Alex Vam wanted rear guard and Azoth will oblige. Azoth can take spot 6.
