Weekly the Brown, MU

Gazing disappointedly at his badly drawn picture of a burning torch, and feeling no heat from it, Wrenly realizes his help burning the creature will likely be ineffectual and possibly get him killed. He decides to heed Wulfhart's advice and shuffle quickly to a point he deems outside the ink blot's reach, perhaps just the other side of the fire pit.

"That's it! Take it to him, fellows! I believe it's working! Take care, don't burn yourselves, ..." he cries as he shuffles along.

Fingal the thief seems pretty upset that rolling his magic dice didn't do anything to remedy the situation. Or anything at all for that matter.

He chuckles as the paper-like mage tries to run past him, shouting encouragement to the others still in the fight. Ya guys! Kick its blot!

He laughs at his own joke but will help protect anyone trying to get the book into the pit of fire and death.

Groyn will attempt to throw the book into the pit if Gagel and the Sleese do not git her done. While hanging onto the altar and attempting to throw one handed of course due to his stick figure leg.

With the rest of his companions running after him to catch the book if it happens to fall, Gagel runs to the pit while sort of juggling the book with one hand so it doesn't burn him then attempts to throw it in the pit

As soon as someone picks the book up, Swilbosh stops trying to burn it. He will keep the ink away usong the torch.

Roll if needed:

Torch To Hit Roll [1d20+2] = 11+2 = 13 Dam [1d6] = 5

Sleestak, lizardman shaman:

If Gagel throws the book in the pit and it isn't heavy enough to trigger the fire trap, Sleestak will try to push something in after it that is heavy enough to do so (and is not a humankin).

If he can't move it himself, due to his two-dimensional nature, he'll ask for help.

Inked! - Round 5
Image

The shrinking ink monster spews jet at Gagel and Groyn who are taking the book, and Niles and Swilbosh who are providing cover and attacking it. The adventures weave and dive, avoiding the infernal ink, all except Swillbosh who is splashed (please Save vs. Spell.)

As the lizardman fighter tries to resist the strange feelings overcoming him, he swings his torch again but the creature splits its mass to avoid the flame-stick. Niles the knight however sweeps his torch into the inky monster and seers it! Wulfhart the barbarian leaps into the fray, torch swinging, but the black abomination rises high to avoid it.

No sooner does Niles swipe the monster then he is overcome with its inkantion magick from its previous hit. The knight turns into a still-life drawing of himself, unmoving but quite artistic!

Having just grabbed the book after Groyn slammed it shut, Gagel of the Alien Armor clunks across floor toward the pit bisecting the room. He tries to juggle the burning book, which is hard to do with one hand in heavy cumbersome uncomfortable armor. His hand burns (2 HP damage.)

Fingal, Wrenly and Porphyry provide moral support, shouting encouragements. Asherion the Ink Puddle, part now of the abomination, experiences a mind-altering glimpse of meta-reality within the Plane of Fiction, where he realizes with existential horror that he is nothing more than a piece of paper, manipulated and controlled by the whims of a librarian.
Image
The experience leaves Asherrion confused and unable to process reality.

Gagel reaches the edge of the pit and hurls the book down. It hits the bottom, smoldering, further shrinking the ink monster to a 3' mass of spastic ink, but the pit fire trap is not set off! Perhaps the book is not heavy enough? Sleestak the lizardman shaman looks about for something heavy to push into the pit. But what is there?

Fingal will once again save the day. (and hopefully most of his party)

If it appears that the pedestal is to heavy for his comrades to move quickly, he takes matters into his own hands.

He will hop down into the pit trap in hopes that he can set off the fire to burn the book completely. As soon as his feet touch the floor, he activates his magic boots to jump back out on the other side of the pit. Hopefully, without too much damage to himself.

Well? Here goes nothin!

Wulfhart looks on in astonishment as Fingal jumps into the pit. The barbarian rushes to Asherrion, ready to grapple him in case his loose grip on reality causes him to try to harm himself or others.

Oops, failed reading comprehension check. I guess I really take on the persona of my character. :P

He stands instead with torch lit, ready to attack something that is nasty.

Wrenly the Brown, MU

Wrenly's hollow, inky pupils go comically wide as Fingal prepares to leap into the flame pit.Perceiving what he means to do, he cries out "Fingal! Perhaps you should reconsid... oh." He steps away from the edge of the pit, fearing immolation in his paper-like state.

Sleestak, lizardman shaman:
OGRE MAGE wrote:Fingal

Sleestak's tribe, the Choqua-Xi, would take elderly infirm lizardmen, who had outlived their usefulness, to the desert and cast them out to die alone, sending them to the afterlife with dignity - a way to gracefully pass without becoming an unwanted burden for the tribe.

When 'Talkative Man Who Will Not Fight' chose to finally make himself useful by sacrificing his life to save his brethren and relieve them of his burden, Sleestak nodded in assent. "It is good," the shaman rasped solemnly.

Inked! - Round 6
Image
The monstrosity of ink is now a small cloud of jet fibers, squiggling in torment, writing in pain.

Swilbosh reels from the ink splurge. His eyes suddenly hurt as he perceives the world as simple line drawings. His sight is devoid of detail, color and texture. There is only basic black outlines of everything.

As Porphyry yells, Groyn heaves against the stone altar. The dwarf knows it is useless - the platform is carved of rock and part of the floor. Sleestak glares around the room for something heavy to push into the pit. The obscene wall carvings stare back at the lizardman as he sees the great hall is empty of anything mobile.

Fingal the Bold gambles not with his dice this time, but with his life as he leaps into the pit! He lands painfully (2 HP, failed Boot Dex. check) and fire erupts almost instantly, burning Fingal (6 HP) and the terrible tome.
Image
The thief leaps up as fast as he can, clearing the top and rolling to put out the flames. Alas the Boots of Jumping are heavily burnt. Will they still work?

The ink monster goes spastic a final time then squirts out of existence. Asherrion's inkitude is divested of the monster. He splats down to the floor. In his mind he shudders as his fiction flitters between shelf and shredder, threatened by savage erasers, blue editing pencils and Delete buttons.

The adventurers collapse back in relief. The room is suddenly quiet as the party looks at each other; most are still effected in different ways by the half-realized, poorly conceived terror.
Fingal pit damage [1d6] = 2, fire damage [1d6] = 6

HP and body status

Niles - fighter: 24/24 (still life drawing)
Fingal - thief: 8/16 (blackened, 2 from pit, 6 from pit fire)

Groyn - dwarf: 16/17 (1 from burning book, left leg a stick figure)
Bene - Groyn's dog: 9/9
Asherrion - elf: 12/12 (ink puddle, confused from mind meld with ink monster)
Porphyry - satyr: 15/15
Gagel - thief: 7/10 (8 from pit and fire, 7 healed by potion, left arm stick figure, 2 from burning book)
Swilbosh - fighter: 22/22 (sight is black outline only)
Wrenly - magic user: (black-and-white drawing)
Sleestak - cleric: 16/16 (two-dimensional)

Porphyry carefully approaches the inky party. "My stars, look at the state of you. The book might have held some clue on reversing your conditions, but alas, even I must admit it had to go." He peers into the puddle of ink, unaware that it is his companion Asherrion, seeing only his own dark reflection. "A Bishop, that's what we need. Some over-dressed functionary held in high esteem by one god or another. They can undo curses and lingering magics. Or, perhaps it will wear off on it's own?"

Fingal the idiot rolls around to put the last of the embers out. He is very careful about not damaging his boots any further. He lays there in pain for a while.

Great time for my luck ta run out! Stupid dice!

Anyone want to trade one a them fancy rings fer these here magic dice?
He says sarcastically.

When he looks up and sees that his efforts didn't reverse the effects of his party he gets even more upset.

Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!
