LOL, It do as 10 to 1 in my games because when I give out platinum its super rare. If you guys find more then 200 Platinum this whole module it will be a miracle ! That being said party members can always exchange gold for platinum coins at the Magic shop, this would allow you to carry a lot more wealth without needing a lot of space.

Really that's way me and my friends have always done platinum. We had so much gold after a couple of years of playing that our PC's could never carry enough money around to buy things whenever we were away from our individual treasure hoards. You would have to be a MU to move that much gold around using teleports over and over again. So we decided to up the value of PP to 10. It helped out a lot because now we could carry 50 PP and it was = to 500 GP. The Ebon Skull for sale here at the magic shop for example is 40,000+ GP. That would only be 4,000 PP which is much easier to transport. Also a good way to transport money is jewelry. Jewelry can be worth thousands of GP and weighs very little. My friend Skip's character used to wear his wealth, so much so we used to joke with him all the time about looking like the D&D equivalent of Mr. T. "I pity the fool that don't wear their gold!"

I believe among the more recent WOTC editions, platinum = 10 gold, so that all denominations are a consistent 10:1 ratio.

Gold to platinum was 5:1 in AD&D 1e of course.

It just makes more sense that way if you ask me. We were doing it during TSR times because it seemed more logical. WOTC must have realized this and changed the format.

Ulfang Chainbreaker, barbarian:

After being reunited with his cousin, Ulfang wanted to outfit him. He stormed into the black magic shoppe.
"How much for this?" he bellowed, dropping the Tablet of Recall onto the counter.
It had the same witchcraft as the Key he had received. Ulfang didn't need two of the things. He wasn't sure he needed one!

The Shop Keeper Today is an Arcane. This one appears to be wearing a shirt made of mithril and greaves of blackened steel.

His name is Andronax.
I will add some info on the Arcane for those who have never encountered them, coming up next.
