Chapter 15: The Slime God

Caveman Dwelling at the Starfall, Forbidden Island of Xygax the Wizard, Land of One Thousand Towers
Morning. Saturday, April 14th, 912 CY

Image

Fallen from heaven, the immense, disgusting Slime God is discovered amongst the shards of the falling star that brought it to Earth!

Image

Its countless mouths slurp-speak: "Join with us, you things from another world."

The Slime God births slime creatures (S3, S4, S5) from its rippling mass! Things that crawl, things that wriggle, things that fly! Were these alien shapes indigenous to other planets that the Slime God had previously assimilated?!

In the horrific sight of this, Fiefo flees back down the steps as Finver parlays with the otherworldly entity, offering it his services.
(Finver, please roll your Charisma or lower on 1d20)

Behind the dwarf, Fiefo bursts into the vast slime cavern! Maskelyn's arcane prank distracts one of the gigantic, writhing things from the slime pit (S2)...

Image

...as its frightful twin (S1) bludgeons Ko-Nan with a massive, tentacular pseudopod! (8hp damage. Please Save vs Poison, and post regardless of the outcome.)

Meanwhile, far away, Connak, Draupadi and Mungo try to find their way back through the hallucinatory dreamscape of their disorienting vision quest!

Sorry fellas, the game is up. Finver failed the roll vs Charisma
[1d20]=16 > = Charisma 9

The dwarf begins to panic, slowly losing his composure as the surrounding chaos overcomes him. With his allies and enemies falling into position to engage one another, his concentration finally breaks! Finver is unable to continue the ruse against the unknown power of this slime creature.

His mind races at the most critical point and he bungles his lines in a negotiation of diminishing returns with the Slime God. "... It would benefit ya much more... if ya just listen ta how we can help ya get back ta yer home. ...maybe ya know of a fallin' star somewhere around here that we might remember somethin' about how ta help ya... and becomes nonsensical as his immediate surroundings destabilize.

Caveman Dwelling at the Starfall, Forbidden Island of Xygax the Wizard, Land of One Thousand Towers
Morning. Saturday, April 14th, 912 CY

Image

The Slime God constantly writhes. Its surface is never still. Its hideous, shifting mass forms two tentacular pseudopods that embrace Finver as its many mouths croon, "Yes, Finver. You shall be our herald to the Earthlings."

(4hp damage. Please Save vs Poison)

Behind Finver, the insidious Void Slime infection takes root in Ko-Nan's flesh!

Image

Fiefo's and Ko-Nan's revulsion ruins the arc of fork and ax! The thing from the slime pit (S1) counterattacks and the post-apocalyptic barbarian evades its great, hammering tentacle!

Nearby, Maskelyn manipulates his devious auditory trick to lure the other slime sentinel (S2) northward!

Elsewhere, Connak, Draupadi and Mungo emerge from their phantasmal dreamscape and can hear the sounds of battle echoing throughout the caverns of the lost tribe. They race forward with urgency and alarm!

Save vs Poison... [1d20]=4

C'est la vie, that wasnt even close to succeeding.

Finver begins speaking but is nearly incomprehensible. He is eerily calm amid the chaos erupting on every side of him. His stubby hans wave at the end of his flowing arms in a dance that appears to reflect the tendrils of slime rising to attack his fellows. Yah, yah he says as a dazed look overtakes his face, almost blissful... I'll be yer herald ta tha Earthlings...

Finver is entwined within the writhing tentacles of the cosmic Slime God! All his skin is infested with the ghastly slime growth! Stricken by the ecstasy of Communion, the dwarf feels its hideous consciousness entering his mind! (Save vs Spells to act freely!)

At the slime pits, Fiefo's accursed ancestral fork continues to earn its reputation. But in a fit of rage and loathing, Ko-Nan grievously wounds the gigantic ooze sentinel (S1)!

Image

The towering slime giant (S1) fights on with no concern for its life, but Ko-Nan evades its bludgeoning pseudopod once more!

Maskelyn ends his sonic illusion and races toward Ko-Nan's side!

No longer distracted, the other leviathan from the slime pit (S2) turns and oozes toward its hideous brother!

Meanwhile, Connak, Draupadi and Mungo reach the edge of the slime coated tunnel!

Image

They can hear the sounds of battle and the cries of their friends echoing from within!

By Wells and Verne, it seems there's nothing for it but to dash through the slime! Mungo cries. He does that, trying to reach the sound of battle as quickly as he can.

must Save vs Spells to act freely from the tendrils of the Slime God! [1d20]=18

Yes! Success, made my day! Yes, it was one of those days!

Finver attempts to break free from the slime tentacles entangling his skin and dominating his consciousness. He irregularly grunts in determination and howls the dwarven battle cry, he cries out, "Ko-Nan! Maskelyn!" but is suddenly spewing gurgles of slime!

Is there a way to fight his way out of the control of the tendrils? or escape another way?

Finver's body is overtaken by the slime infection!

Image

But he withstands the Slime God's telepathic invasion of his mind! The dwarf frees himself from the clutching pseudopod tentacles as the vast, rippling amoeboid spawns more slime creatures! (S6, S7, S8)

Image

"It is useless to resist, Finver. You and everyone else in this little world shall soon be me."

Elsewhere, Connak, Draupadi and Mungo burst into the slime cavern in time to see Fiefo and Ko-Nan dismember the jelly behemoth (S1)! It is reabsorbed into the luminescent lake of ooze!

Its shambling kin (S2) advances upon the warriors!

Image

Maskelyn the trickster quickly conjures a spray of radiant hues that strike the gooey guardian insensate! It submerges back into the slime pit!

Suddenly, they hear Finver's muffled shouts echoing from the stairwell that ascends into daylight!

Re: Chapter 15: The Slime God

#20 Post by SilverBen »

Barely escaping assimilation into other worldly slime, Finver stumbles in panic down the eastern steps. In his desperation, he nearly takes a fatal fall due to the remainders dripping off his limbs and girthy torso.

Upon reaching the landing safely, he sights his fellows prepared to meet the approaching minions of slime. He musters his strength and breath to rally his friends and save them from the same fate bellowing, "Flee ta surface! ...ta tha surface!" He flails his arms and points north to draw any of his fellows towards the corridor who will break concentration from combat. He fights through the lingering pain, disgust, and disorientation, staggering north to find where it leads and any exit from this hellish lair.

Any limitations on Finver's actions due to his continuing "infested" status? Let me know if this post needs to be revised in any way.
