Chapter 22: Underworld
Re: Chapter 22: Underworld
Zahra
Zahra raises an eyebrow. It is said that the gods protect fools and small children. I do not wish to rely on such protection. I will stay here.
She wets a cloth and wipes the dust and spores from Dahinna's face.

"Scouting ahead may be wise? I will stay with the giant woman," says Kiri.
Re: Chapter 22: Underworld
I go with the scouts, Torix says. But is not wise to go too far the ones stay behind.

Re: Chapter 22: Underworld
Amethu sighs behind his mask. Wanting to move on but he must heed his own prior cautions. "With Dahinna still unresponsive, we should rest here I propose. I doubt the cultists like to surprise us here. That narrow entrance there is easily defended also."
As the group sets up a rest area and defenses and Dahinna is seen to, he will remove the book recently found gently and ponder it's mysteries. Looking for some new clue of mystical insight to add power to his own.

Re: Chapter 22: Underworld
Dahinna
In her dreams, the rogue sips wine from Iago's cup and winces at its bitterness. He disappears and she looks up a tree whose canopy is in the shape of a heart. The heart is made of flowers, or is it just bright red leaves...she doesn't know, for as she approaches it, the flowery leaves begin to blow away in the wind. Tears run down her face as her heart breaks and floats away before her...

Cruloc
The Northman sits and ponders all that he has seen this day. He keeps watch over Dahinna and offers what aid he can to her and to the others.

Re: Chapter 22: Underworld
The Caverns of Thracia, Pictland, the World of Hyboria
Day Eleven. Early Afternoon. 21st day of the month of Qrot, 1280th year of the Age of Aquilonia
Far beneath the sunlit world of Men, the invaders of lost antiquity keep watch over their fallen friend as toxic fumes slowly crawl across the ceiling and out into the yawning chasm.
Hours pass and Dahinna does not awaken from her unnatural slumber, even after returning to her natural scale. They begin to wonder if she ever will awaken, and set a night watch away from the clutch of fungi, mold and spores.
Between a barred door and a bottomless pit, they expect no earthly intruders in this unearthly passageway of the ancients. But a nameless dread still hangs over them, as palpable as a funeral shroud. And with every passing hour, hope for Dahinna wanes.
In the dark hours of eternal night, Amethu reviews the parchments recovered from the reliquary of the shattered icon of Thanatos.
Scribed in the dead language of Ancient Atlantean, it is slow, painstaking work.
He finds passages written before the fall of Atlantis and Thracia, of the Thurian Age, that mythic epoch of strange magic, gods and monsters, the likes of which are not known in the world today.
Amethu delves deep into the holy scripture of Thanatos, whose forbidden cult arose from the ashes of Thracia. There, he finds sacred rituals of the death-worshippers. (Cleric Scroll: Animate Dead, Feign Death, Speak With Dead)
The learned scholar is about to begin reading an historical account of Thracia after the fall when suddenly, Dahinna awakens from her dreams.
Far beyond the stygian depths of the Underworld, it might be dawn.
Actions? (Please mark off another day's rations.
Nightly healing and first aid is accounted for below. Please roll for additional healing as per the house rules.
Casters may now pray and study for new spells.)

Re: Chapter 22: Underworld
Amethu's eyes widen beneath his grim mask as the powers over the dead are revealed to him. What would a culture reveling in the learnings of the dead actually uncover? Immortality of a sort? Perhaps we will find out soon enough...
Relieved to see Dahinna awaken, and at the renewed vigor of the group, he will relinquish a prayer of healing ere the start of the day to bolster his Verulian comrade.

Re: Chapter 22: Underworld
Kiri wakes feeling refreshed, or as much so as possible in a vile, spore ridden necropolis.
As he meditates with his spell wheel, he feels a presence watching him.
"So... you're back, Grandfather. I hope you enjoyed yourself," he says. "Did you find anything at the top of the stairs?"
As usual, the old man says nothing, but the amulet on Kiri's chest smiles mischievously.

Cruloc
Cruloc eyes Dahinna with relief, concern, and suspicion. Were these undead creatures not once men who were infected like the Zamoran has been? Did they too awake from restful slumber to a nightmarish living death? Will she become as they were? Before a sword is needed to remedy the situation, can the healers not restore her?
Munga the Knowing, paramount healer of his tribe and counter of numbers greater than ten, would light incense sticks, slaughter a chicken, and brew elixirs while the villagers outside futilely beseeched Crom.

Zahra
additional healing point pecentile [1d100]=22
Zahra wakes after a troubled night's sleep. She gnaws at some dried meat and bread, studying Dahinna. Then she lights a candle and begins searching the walls (not getting within 5 feet of the mold/fungus), looking for murals or writing she can read.

Grigor
+1hp from resting.
Rises early and sets his stall out, an array of trinket icons and holy symbols. He prays through each as a multi-pantheon rosary. Finishing his devotions and confessions (which were largely whispered penitence concerning oversized breasts) and completing his ablutions with a chasm dump and pee over the edge.
"How best to prepare for the day?"
He must surely noticed that some of the group are 'unsettled' by the eerie and dark atmosphere. What I can do is use a Remove Fear spell to counter any ongoing ill effects and I would also minister a CLW spell on the most needy, keeping my second healing in reserve for emergency petitioning.
Speaking to the two ladies in the group, no gender bias just assessing the group as a whole he offers to minister as he thought above before we move from the room.
Grigor invokes Cure Light Wounds: on Zahra [1d8]=8
Casts Remove Fear upon Dahinna.

Re: Chapter 22: Underworld
Dahinna
The rogue opens her eyes to flickering darkness and wonders if she is dead. But when Gnasher sniffs her hand, and she feels the dampness of the hound's nose, her ears pick up Amethu reading and concentrating upon some ancient script.
Sitting up is not easy and she hacks and coughs and spits. "My throat is full of dust," she croaks, squinting. "And my eyes full of sand."
She looks at Grigor in confusion as her fellow Zamoran chants and mumbles over her. "What the hell happened? I vaguely remember...growing. And my..." she looks down at her chest, now back to normal, and sighs "Mitra's grace! Was it all my imagination?"

Grandfather?!
Cruloc stiffens. He squints, and ice-blue Northern eyes scan the chamber for traces of the unseen elder.

Re: Chapter 22: Underworld
Torix suddenly longs to see the Sun and breathe the air of the forest. This place far beneath ground with its strange scrivenings unsettles him. What kind of people would choose this kind of place to dwell? What kind of foul rituals or wicked sorcery has happened here. He sees Dahinna revive, which cheers him. At least there is one good thing. But somehow his soul is full of dread.

The Caverns of Thracia, Pictland, the World of Hyboria
Day Twelve. Morning? 22nd day of the month of Qrot, 1280th year of the Age of Aquilonia
In the lightless subterranean realm, Amethu and Grigor bring some small hope. They heal Zahra, the pale, proud amazon with holy miracles (+10hp).
Then the gypsy banishes the preternatural fear that haunts Dahinna. But Torix and Zahra still rest uneasy.
Kiri greets the presence of his ancestor's spirit, alarming the superstitious Cimmerian.
Zahra's candlelight finds no etchings or murals on these black funereal walls.
And, after his arcane studies of the death cult of Thanatos, Amethu wonders what dread necromancy awaits them.

Deducting rations to feed Gnasher, the hound content to munch upon some dried jerky and a skeleton bone free of mold.
"Yes, let us press on."
Is the door locked or just barred? He takes his place in the chosen marching order.

Glad to be doing something besides dying, the rogue gets up, staggers a bit, regains her balance, and checks out the door.
"What happened with those...fungi creatures? I don't remember much after I suddenly grew to be a giant. Or was that just my imagination?"
