By..., Mungo starts to yell, but then loses his place and forgets. He can't think of a better tactic than striking at the web thing with his forge hammer.

Ko-Nan reacts by ducking and weaving around the webs and then counter attacks!
Attack: THACO (18): [1d20+2]=15+2=17 / Damage: (S/M: [2d4+3]=5+3=8 / L: [3d4+3]=9+3=12)

He calls out to those not affected, "If you have fire, use it now!"

Ko-Nan's words help Finver emerge from the chaos of the moment but is disoriented by the memories of Enath and family draining from his mind. Finver attempts to reach his one hand into his hip pouch to retrieve a flask of lantern oil. He will try to spill out the contents and light the web aflame with his flint & steel. "I'm gonna risk fryin' us all in oil if it means we got a chance ta outta this blasted web! I don't look forward ta being sucked dry fer dinner by some overgrown spider!"

The joke's on you, Inferno! He had already quite forgotten them... 8-) :)

Fiefo more deeply forgets his old friends, their memory being wiped from his subconscious as the netting constricts. His fork rendered all but unusable, he grabs for his so far unused daggers. He knew they'd come in handy. Or he thinks he knew. Thinking has gotten more difficult.

Attack with Dagger, Melee (THAC0 17): To Hit: [1d20+1]=2+1=3 Damage, s/m: [1d4]=2, L: [1d3]=3

This is all so confusing. How do daggers work, again...?

The Withered Forest, Island of Xygax the Wizard, Land of One Thousand Towers
Dusk. April 11th, 912 CY

Image

Stuck in the adhesive strands of the predatory devourer of remembrance, Connak, Fiefo, Finver, Maskelyn and Mungo cannot act! (Please roll STR or lower on 1d20 to act next round)

Outside its amorphous, viscous grasp, Draupadi and Ko-Nan strike the strange creature with mace and with ax! Each lands a powerful blow but both their weapons are now stuck fast to the living chrysalis!

Then the writhing Memory Web continues to feast upon its victims' memories! (another -1 to INT)

Actions?!

Behind the DM Screen:
Initiative: Party: [1d6]=5, Monsters: [1d6]=3 Party wins.
Finver posted two actions:
1. Reach and empty oil flask
2. Reach and use flint and steel
First things first:
Finver STR check to reach and empty oil: [1d20]=19 Failed.
Maskelyn STR check to unsheathe dagger: [1d20]=16 Failed.
Everyone else snared by the web missed with their attacks, so no need to bother rolling STR checks this round.
INT loss: [1d3]=1

Revised.

Finver's Strength check vs STR 17

[1d20]=11 Strength roll succeeds!

Finver writhes mightily against the silky webs. He retrieves a torch, and lights it with his flint and steel. With his other hand he puts a flask of oil into his mouth, bites off the cork, and spits it to the ground in contempt.

Holding the burning torch towards the web, he orders, "If ya can understand me, and ya know what's good fer ya, yu'll release my friends before I burn 'em out! Ya got ta the count a' five ta show yer reasonable..."

He begins counting down, "Five, four, three..."

Mungo struggles both physically and mentally, but manages to both free his shocking forge gloves and remember that he has them. But he fails to properly grab the web being's complex body.

Draupadi

Draupadi lights a torch, staying back far enough the Web can't easily reach her.

The Withered Forest, Island of Xygax the Wizard, Land of One Thousand Towers
Dusk. April 11th, 912 CY

Image

A man is the sum of his memories. The immense living web devours all that they are.

Ko-Nan wrests free his axe from the chrysalis creature!

Draupadi gets a torch alight. So too does Finver, while trapped within the web. He barks an ultimatum to his alien captor, threatening to immolate himself and his friends to destroy it! "Ya got ta the count a' five ta show yer reasonable! Five, four, three..."

If the amnesia gossamer can understand him, it gives no sign.

Ensnared and entangled, Mungo cannot land a clean blow! Fiefo and Maskelyn stab and gash the unearthly predator, and their weapons are stuck fast in its strands!

Then the sentient web continues to consume the delicious memories of its victims! (another -3 to INT)

Connak forgets the events of the last year!

Finver suddenly stops his desperate gambit, having forgotten how to count!

Maskelyn and Mungo forget their memorized spells!

And Fiefo forgets everything; even his own name and how to speak. He is little more than an animal now, a trapped rat struggling to survive by instinct alone!

His perception blurs as the web draws ever tighter.

After Finver starts counting down, "...Five, Four, Three..." he hesitates when the creature drains him of memories again.

All the determination in his voice softens and he begins babbling mindlessly, "...through three cheese trees three free fleas flew. While these fleas flew, freezy breeze blew..." He snaps back in a moment of horrified lucidity, "I'm gettin' outta here!"

STR Check 17 vs [1d20]=9

He uses the torch and his strength to break free of the web.

Ko-Nan foregoes his axe. A cowardly creature that now deserves death. He will pull out any one close to him as the fire is used to kill it.
