A Ramshackle Cabin, Banemourne, the Dark Mountains, Gran March, Greyhawk
Day Twenty-one. Long Before Dawn. Friday, December 2nd, 576 CY
Freezing cold, overcast, windy.

Image

In the isolated mountain hamlet, in blackest night, a pack of werewolves bursts into the derelict cabin! They've come for Amity Mantle, whom they call a Demon freed by the heroes from the lost shrine of ancient evil! And they've come for the heroes as well!

Steel is Brevos' only answer! Mouser's and Telkis' attempt at subterfuge is thwarted as the grim ranger lunges forward, charging the pack! Brood cuts deep, slashing the alpha wolf (W1) in an eruption of hot bright blood!

Jerome moves to the back of the cabin and finds Ingrid drawing a circle on the worn floorboards around Amity to protect her from the wolves. Amity looks up at Jerome and her high little voice says, "Stay here. Protect me."

From his bed, Long Bo casts a nature enchantment and the tree roots deep beneath the frozen earth and luminous snow slowly answer his plea!

Image

Out of the heroes' sight, more than half the growling pack beyond the door are ensnared by grasping clutching tendrils ruptured up from the hard ground!

Inside, Urdur exerts his formidable will, using the last of his magicks to weave a mesmeric spell!

Image

Two wolves fall under his hypnotic influence, the bleeding pack leader (W1) and Pyotr Whitetip (W2)!

"You should leave this village immediately," commands Urdur.

Image

The alpha wolf barks with impotent fury, even as it obeys Urdur's hypnotic suggestion! "The conjurer has ensorceled me! Kill them!"

Suddenly the wood burning stove explodes, catching half the heroes in the flashfire!

Their clothes and two beds catch fire! (1hp damage to Bo, Jerome and Urdur. 2hp damage to Ingrid)

Then the rest of the wolfpack lunges forward with bloodthirsty savagery! Sharp white fangs rend Brevos without mercy! (6hp damage)

Image

Eerily, one of them snarls in the voice of the heroes' former friend, Mondegreen Cindereye! "You had to choose the hard way!"

Mouser see's their former friend in the encroaching group. An idea comes to him He covers his face briefly with his hands before extending them outward followed by a word of magic. "Mondegreen! Will not you and your friends help us in our need?!?"

Jerome
Jerome nods to Amity, cudgel in hand. Of course.
He faces the chaos in the room, ready to attack anyone who gets too close. When the stove flashfires, he remains ready- trying to beat the flames out with one hand.

Ingrid Esthof

With a number of their party (and some furniture) on fire, Ingrid grits her teeth against the pain. Trying to ignore the smell of burning hair and skin, the cleric casts Create Water so that it falls on the flames.

[1d20+1] = 14+1 = 15

Brevos ignores the flames as the warm hilt of brood throbs in his hand, he buries the mystic blade once again into the inured wolf.

[1d20+1] = 14+1 = 15

[1d8+1] = 4+1 = 5

Urdur tries to remember what his old grandpappy used to say: látínustǫfum, ǫllum þeim er réttræðir verða í enskunni, en þar er þeir vinnask eigi til, þá hafa þeir við aðra stafi.
If you're ever surrounded by wolves and on fire, be sure to stop drop and roll!!
Urdur drops to the ground and rolls around, trying to put out the flames before he burns to death.

A Ramshackle Cabin, Banemourne, the Dark Mountains, Gran March, Greyhawk
Day Twenty-one. Long Before Dawn. Friday, December 2nd, 576 CY
Freezing cold, overcast, windy.

Outside the lonely cabin beneath the Dark Mountain, the wolves ensnared by Bo's nature magic howl a bloodcurdling chorus of rage and fury, terrifying the villagers of Banemourne who tremble in their beds. The doom they knew the heroes would bring down upon them has come!

Inside the derelict shack, ravenous wolves and flames threaten to devour the heroes! Bo, Jerome and Urdur beat out the fire from their clothes! The paladin stands ready to protect little Amity.

Ingrid begins to cast a holy prayer but cannot concentrate upon its sacred words due to the hungry flames that engulf her! (4hp more damage)

Suddenly, two windows on the cabin's western end fly open of their own volition! An icy wind rips through the cabin, feeding the hungry flames! They jump and writhe, a crackling conflagration that spreads from beds to floor to walls to ceiling! The heroes must urgently move from there, else be burned alive!

Image

Mouser cries out above the roaring fire and barking wolves, "Mondegreen! Will not you and your friends help us in our need?!?" He begins to weave an enchantment of beguilement but another wolf (W5) lunges at him with merciless jaws, ripping his flesh asunder (4hp damage) and disrupting his spell!

Wounded and exhausted, Telkis falters in his attack from atop his bunk. But Brevos' coldly glimmering blade beats back two pouncing beasts, piercing the one that had once been the sorcerer Mondegreen! (W3) "This is pointless. Why fight it?" the wolf snarls with disgust. "You can't defeat us! And once you're one of us, you won't want to. Lower your weapons! Accept your fate and you can live forever!"

Bo is certain that there is something wrong with this situation. Since none of his friends has the power to will latched windows open, he surmises that it is indeed the child that is causing these problems. And if that is the case, it is likely that at least some of his friends are now under her charm.

If he can make it outside through one of the open windows without difficulty, that is what he does, patting out the fire on him with his pillow if he must.

If that isnt possible, he follows behind Jerome.

The cleric attempts to crawl through one of the windows, then drop into the snow to put out the fire that is currently engulfing her.

Image

Half the derelict cabin is engulfed in flames!

Image

And the wolfpack seeks to pin the heroes between the raging inferno and their crimson jaws!

"I yield! I surrender!" cries Mouser in abject despair.

"Drop thy weapons and stand aside!" barks the nearest black bristling cur (W5) as he joins the rapacious onslaught upon the grim ranger! But Brevos and Telkis beat back the ferocious attack!

Suddenly a stack of wooden crates near the door topple over and come crashing down upon Telkis, nearly smashing him into oblivion! (2hp damage)

Bo and Ingrid quickly gather their possessions and leap through the newly opened windows, each crashing to the frozen ground, narrowly escaping being burned alive! Both roll in the snow to extinguish their clothes! The grey druid sees some half dozen howling wolves barely held captive by his magic! Ingrid knows her charge, Amity Mantle is still inside the burning shack!

There, Jerome shoulders his gear and carries Amity toward the wolves who will not yield before him! He and Urdur feel the intense heat of the flames upon their very backs!

Brevos and Telkis stand alone! Each hammers a slavering wolf, but neither beast is felled!

Long Bo dives the 10 feet behind the back corner of the building, hoping to shield himself from any remaining wolves before they spot him.

If that works, he starts casting a spell that should hide his scent from them, in case he needs to escape the pack all together. Pass Without Trace

However, if it is obvious that he was spotted, and will be pursued by the wolves, he casts another of the entangling spells like the one he placed outside the doorway. Entangle, centered 20 feet north of the corner so he wont be caught in its radius.
