OOC

Inferno please refer to page 21 of the Unearthed Arcana.

Special Note: Tracking indoors is impossible if the ranger desiring to do so has never observed some distinguishing feature about the tracks of the creature to be tracked, or if the ranger does not observe the quarry making the trail and then follow the tracks within a reasonable period of time (Typically 10-30 minutes) thereafter.

GM
Inferno I will allow you to track them but first you must move across the battle field to were their tracks begin. However for you it is almost a moot point as you did observe them go invisible 30' away from you. You moved 120' forward and did not jump am I correct? They moved forward 90' in their turn. So this means you have one more arrow to shoot at morgol and like I said you watched all three dwarfs go invis. very close to you. This round you could just run over to where you saw one go invisible and attack that spot with your two handed sword. One thing everyone must note is that if you are using a missile weapon such as a bow in this case with the barbarian, I allow you to drop it and draw a melee weapon within the same round. This means you can drop your bow, crossbow whatever and draw your long sword and attack the closest foe if you like in the same round.

Next on the docket is the penalties for attacking an invisible creature. Attacking an invisible creature is a -4 penalty to hit even if you know they are their you cannot see them to aim your attack.

Inferno can keep the 100XP bonus as I will not retract it now that it has been given, that I think would be wrong. But he does need to fire one more arrow at Morgol, an 11 on a D20 or higher to hit. Also Grognardsw needs to post his second round action before we can start the third round.

I made a clerical mistake when I cast the dispel, (No Pun Intended ) I commonly use MU's personally and assumed their range was the same. It is not, Cleric's only have a 60' range when casting dispel so the spell would have feel short. Morgol being a seasoned fighter cleric would not have cast the dispel as a result of this knowledge. I edited my last post reflecting this decision and kept him still visible as a penalty to myself for making the mistake. I hope this clears things up a bit so that we can continue the Grand finale of the arena's daily schedule of fights.

Ulfang:

OOC:Thanks, Synth for the correction. That's more than fair. Please take back that 100xp. I didn't earn it. :)
Here's the rest of Ulfang's first round action:

Second magic arrow at Morgul!
7th Level Barbarian THAC0 is 14. Morgul's AC is -1. Two Blesses is +2 (thanks guys!), magic arrow is +2, Ulfang's dexterity gives him a +1 with all missile attacks. So Ulfang needs to roll a 10 or higher, I think. Here goes:
second arrow on Morgul: [1d20] = 14

Yeah! Here's the arrow's damage:
second arrow damage: [1d6+2] = 4+2 = 6

Well, he's certainly consistent. :) Second round actions to follow shortly! Thanks!

Ulfang the Chainbreaker:

The barbarian's animal cunning told him where the invisible killers were standing! He dropped his bow, unsheathed his great, black sword and raced forward with the ferocity of a jungle cat! "YEAAAAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!" he roared as he charged Morgul with bloodthirsty abandon.

At the last moment, Ulfang diverted his path from Morgul and suddenly lunged at where Crix had been standing, hopefully catching Crix unaware and unprepared! The fell-handed barbarian brought his two-handed sword down without mercy.
Two attacks: 7th Level Barbarian THAC0 is 14. Morgul's AC was -1. I don't know Crix's. Two Blesses is +2 (thanks guys!), magic sword is +1, Ulfang's strength gives him a +2 to hit. If Thurgot's Chant is the spell of the same name, that's another +1. Invisible foes gain -4 to be hit. Maybe Ulfang fooled him with the feint? Not sure. Also don't know if Crix left the 'Protection from Good' radius. Ulfang needs to roll a 13 or higher, I think. Here goes:
First sword attack on Crix: [1d20] = 8
Second sword attack on Crix: [1d20] = 15
Maybe that second one got him. So here's a damage roll, just in case:
Sword damage: [1d10+4] = 9+4 = 13
"Crix!" snarled the barbarian. "Show yourself, you sniveling coward!"
Then he started bellowing, "Show yourself! Show yourself! Show yourself!" in an attempt to get the bloodythirsty crowd to join in on the chant.

The arena attendant told the Jagged Rose company to make a good show of it. Invisible gladiators aren't a good show, especially ones who might escape the city's justice. Ulfang's looking to activate the "fifth man" of his company, get some homefield advantage and taunt the Duergar into making a mistake.

Ariknoq Teronqar - Round Two

The invisible Ariknoq sends his Dust Devil sweeping by the last location of Crix, hoping the swirl of dust/sand/pebbles will reveal the invisible duergar so Ulfang can hit him (i.e. not get a -4.)

The Dust Devil continues (move 18") around toward Morgul serving to distract him in a threatening manner.

Invisible Ariqnok charges Morgul the duergar cleric, coming at him from an angle for a rear attack. The Holy Fury savagely hacks at him with Excommunicator. After the attacks the half-orc is now visible.
- Charging in melee gives a 33% increase in movement, so I can reach him.
- Charge is +2 to hit, with no AC bonus given for my AC.
- Rear attack gives +2 to hit, and no shield or Dex AC bonus for the victim.
- Two Blesses gives +2
- So a total of +6 should be added to these macro rolls:
- Excommunicator (Two-Handed Sword) THACO 14 - [1d20+6] = 13+6 = 19 S/M Damage [1d10+6] = 1+6 = 7, L Damage [3d6+6] = 11+6 = 17 Hits AC -12 for 7 damage
- Excommunicator (Two-Handed Sword) THACO 14 - [1d20+6] = 7+6 = 13 S/M Damage [1d10+6] = 8+6 = 14, L Damage [3d6+6] = 12+6 = 18 Hits AC -5 for 14.
- Total damage on Morgul 21, plus 12 for Ulfang's 2 arrow = 33
- I think Thurgot was going to do more than a war chant, per some PM, but Nordbo hasn't been online since.

Thurgot

rushes, in maniac Northern battle-rage fashion, straight at Morgul, intoning the spell Cause Serious Wounds (reverse of Cure Serious Wounds) along the way, so that when he arrives close enough to Morgul, will touch him, and cause the spell to have its effect

Cause Serious Wounds, cause [2d8+1] = 7+1 = 8 points of damage

Edit: added roll, tnx Inferno

Nice rollin, Grognard!

Nordbo, maybe roll the damage dice for CSW in case it succeeds? Also, are you in Scandavia right now, like a good Norseman? ;)

Synth, Ariknoq's sneakin' about reminded me that Barbarians have a chance to detect and counter "back attacks" made on them. Just in case the invisible Duergar's try that, here's Ulfangs roll: Detect and counter back attack: 35% chance: [1d100] = 41

Nope, unless the dust devil kicking sand, or and/gravel floor helps his chances. On the outside chance of that, I'll roll an attack: sword counter, to hit: [1d20] = 3
Unlikely. Thanks.

More OOC: Hmmm. Didn't know about a +2 for charging. If the dust devil succeeds in revealing Crix, and he loses that -4 for invisible, and if Crix is surprised when Ulfang feints for Morgul and goes for him instead, then Ulfang's first attack on Crix might be close to succeeding. So here's a damage roll just in case:
first sword attack on Crix, damage: [1d10+4] = 4+4 = 8
Thanks.

OOC

Morgol has been hit by two arrows from Inferno, And two sword strokes from Grog . He looks pretty wounded now but still standing and clearly ready to return the favor.

Thurgot needs to roll a save vs. spell to get in and attack Morgol then needs to roll to hit Morgol in order to touch him and use the CSW spell. Morgol is AC: -1 (+4 Prayers). Thurgot will need to roll a 16 or higher on 1D20. (9th lvl Cleric THACO is 16. Morgols AC is -1. Add one to 16 = 17.) If he makes it there is no save for CSW and Morgol will take 8 more hit points of damage.

Crix has been hit by Inferno with one sword stroke

Ravenn is the last to go before Team Crix begins the third round.

Thurgot needs to roll a save vs. spell to get in and attack Morgol
Saving throw vs spell: [1d20+4] = 6+4 = 10
then needs to roll to hit Morgol in order to touch him and use the CSW spell
Attack roll: [1d20] = 10

Thurgot drink too much mead, ugh

To DM: if both these failed, does that mean that the spell itself was cast anyway ? Or remains unused

OOC: Hi. As this is a house rule, would any of the three PC cleric spell-casters have known about it, and warned Ulfang not to bother attacking with his sword?
We heard the spells they cast, so the clerics know these guys are not only invisible, but also nigh impervious to melee weapons. (going from a spell that gives -10% to be hit, to a spell that gives a 50% chance of missing entirely even after succeeding at the original 25% chance to hit) :)
It seems like exactly the kind of thing that would have come up in our lengthy PM strategy sessions. :)
Thoughts? Thanks!

Synth I sent a PM on the Protection spell.

Is Brilmara the cleric within 10' of all the others for the Protection spell to even apply? I got the sense things were more spread out when they advanced.

GM

Crix's group never had a prot. good all hits scored last round count. Belay my last post. It is easier to remove the spell from ever being cast then to explain a house rule I forgot to mention before the fight began. I will try to explain the Protection 10' spell next week in House rules for future battles so it can be used later on.

Ravenn is still the last PC to go before Team Crix begins the third round.

On the left side of the image below is the diamond formation that Crix's group is currently in.

Tarcil smiles wickedly as he advances forward to apply righteous fury to Morgol. Weapons whirling, he skips up into a graceful body spin intending to bring down both bludgeons into the face of the Duergar.

Hammer:
To Hit [1d20] = 7 +2 (bless) = 9

Hammer Damage [1d4+1] = 4+1 = 5

Mace:
To Hit [1d20] = 12 +2 (mace) +2 (bless) = 16

Mace Damage [1d6+3] = 6+3 = 9

Tarcil misses Morgol with his hammer but conects soundly with his mace. Morgol groans deeply from the force of the impact and spits blood at Tarcil.
