Chapter 4: Wizard's Basement
Re: Chapter 4: Wizard's Basement
Egon
"Lets see what we have here." Egon advances into the room.
Gargoyle or no, no way a Dwarf thief is not entering a room with potential magic weapons in it.

12 long swords, 3 two-handed swords, 4 short swords, 1 longbow, 3 crossbows, 1 mace, 30 arrows in a quiver, a box of 60 crossbow bolts, and 6 spears. One of the two-handed swords has gems set into the hilt and pommel.

Xlore
"I agree, let's try to find something that will bring this statue to life or set a trap in motion first, then dismantle it." Xlore said to Weston. Still cautiously scanning the room as he walks around inside. The high elf couldn't help but notice all the weapons lining the walls, looking at his own weapons Xlore thought maybe there could be something better he could wield.
/ooc - I'm going to look for traps in this room and do a 1d100 roll.

Re: Chapter 4: Wizard's Basement
Xlore "thinks" there are no traps in this room. failed check, leaves you assuming it is clear but not entirely sure about it.

Xlore
"Hmm... Anything else we can try?" said Xlore while looking at everyone. "Maybe we should look at the armory for any powerful weapons and stock up on arrows. If nothing else, we should probably continue on and get out of here." continued the high elf.

Urtesi follows Egon into the room.
"That must be the other item Kaerin hired us to retrieve." He points at the two-handed sword decorated with gems.
"I suggest we smash this statue before we touch anything. It is so ugly it would be no great loss, guardian or not."

Therick Ulrazor: Sylvan Elf - Magic-User - Evoker - AC 10 - Hit Points: 8 / 8
Therick was just sighting the statue without standing in or going through the doorway.

Egon
Egon will grab the gen hilted sword if no one else was going to, but he is wary of the statue.

Re: Chapter 4: Wizard's Basement
Weapons Room: Statue Attacks! (not as unexpected as one would think)
Initiative NPCs [1d10]=6 PCs [1d10]=3 Adventures go first!
[doc=]Gargoyle:[/b] AC 5; THAC0 15; # of Attks 4; DMG Claw x2 1d3, Bite 1d6, Horn 1d4
Therick recognizes the statue's likeness to a Gargoyle he, Weston, and Trist stay outside of the weapons cache room. Meanwhile Xlore, Egon & Urtesi enter the room. It is mentioned that the 2-handed sword with the gemmed hilt is another item they were sent to retrieve. Egon grabs it and the statue comes alive and moves to attack the dwarf. Xlore examines the room and finds no traps. Upon seeing the weapons some in the room wonder if there are any better than what they currently carry. But those thoughts quickly move to the back of minds when the statue comes to life and moves to attack Egon.
Blink of an eye, heartbeats slowly time to act and react..
Actions for R0 of Combat?

Xlore
Xlore notices the gargoyle and carefully tries to maneuver behind the gargoyle while drawing his longsword out reading for an attack.
If only this beast doesn't notice me..! thought Xlore as he tried to keep calm while making sure the gargoyle doesn't notice the high elf.
Xlore makes his surprise attack on the gargoyle.
Backstab [1d100]=79 MS, [1d20+4]=6+4=10 to hit, [1d4x2]=1x2=2 dmg

Therick Ulrazor: Sylvan Elf - Magic-User - Evoker - AC 10 - Hit Points: 8 / 8
Therick will hang back for now, though he will have his dagger at the ready and will look for an opportunity to strike, like if the others push the gargoyle nearer the door during combat.

Gargoyle Battle: R0
Init = Adventurers go first (from prior posting)
Gargoyle: AC 5; THAC0 15; # of Attks 4; DMG Claw x2 1d3, Bite 1d6, Horn 1d4
PCs
Egon attacks the Gargoyle hitting for 5 dmg!
Xlore attacks the Gargoyle but fails to sneak up on it and misses the mark.
Urtesi attacks the Gargoyle but misses with his sword just barely.
Weston attacks the Gargoyle hits for 2 dmg!
Trist attacks the Gargoyle hits with one arrow for 6 dmg!
Therick hangs back for now.
---------------------------------------------
NPC/Monster
Gargoyle attacks Egon (even though he dropped the sword) catching the dwarf with a claw and horn for 4 dmg!
---------------------------------------------
Quick Summary: Egon is hurt by the Gargoyle for 4 dmg. The Gargoyle takes 3 hits for 7 dmg (6 dmg negated for non magical weapon). Same situation though ranged from the door way is now more risky and might hit a friendly. Those that used non-magical weapons notice Weston is correct mundane weapons just skip off the Gargoyle and though you made a solid him the damage is null. Those that did use magical weapons notice their hits bite into the Gargoyle and the damage done is real.
