We hesitated too long! Glasik moves toward the troll-corpse, the steel of his axe whistling in a deadly arc as he engages the first enemy trying to slip around the bulk of the dead beast.

Elbenarin senses the tension and strides forth with a war cry of "Dunedain!" but the shouts and stench and ferocity of the Uruks - or is it his own doubt? - that only results in failure!

"It's a good day to die, brother!" Gilly says, charging toward one of the hulking Uruk-hai (U2). She briefly notes Therone emerge from the alcove, but then she is in the thick of it and fights for her life!

Footman's Pick: [1d20] = 11 Damage: [2d4+1] = 8+1 = 9

Ever beside her, Red lunges and grabs U2 by the leg, sinking his teeth in deep!

Even from his precarious position, Folco can see that his friends will all be killed or worse if he doesn't do something quick and foolish. Hoping that most of the orcs have their backs to him and wont see his movement, he slides one of his oil flasks out of his pack and pushes the dead orc off of him far enough to attempt a toss at the lead figure with the torch. He concentrates on attempting to hit the torch to ignite the oil, in hopes that all of their oil aslo ignites, causing one huge orc bonfire on this side of the barricade.

If this actually works, he keeps a sharp eye on the passage to his right as an escape route from the Inferno that is about to come, even edging that way immediately, if he has the time.

The Lost Halls of the First ElvenKing, Mountains of Mirkwood, Rhovanion, Middle Earth
Night. March 22, Year One of the Fourth Age
Day Four. Damp, cold





In dank, foul tunnels under the earth, orcs, Uruk-Hai and the dread Uruk berserkers descend upon the heroes!

Then the Company lunges out of the northern shaft in ambush! Gilwennen strikes one of the two fearsome Uruk-Hai berserkers (U1) but the monster does not fall!

Rumil wounds an Uruk warrior (U3) and Gilly, Red and Therone work together to bring down the other bloodthirsty berserker! (U2)

Therone, Tinuwen and the Dunedain brothers evade the cruel swords of the brutal Uruk warriors! But Gilly feels an iron blade sink deep! (6hp damage)

Meanwhile, from the west surge orcs bearing torches and oil, singing merry songs of hatred and slaughter!



  • "Beards blaze! Eyes crack!
    Fat melts! Bones black!

    Dwarves will die! In cinders lie!

    To light the dark to our delight!
    A funeral pyre in endless night!"

But before they can rain fiery death down upon the Company, Folco hurls a flask of oil at the orc leader (G13) from hiding! The little hobbit's dead-eyed throw shatters upon the orc armor, soaking him in oil that suddenly ignites from the orc's torch!

VROOOSHH!!



The orc leader instantly combusts, immolated alive! The foul spawn of Morgoth (G13) falls to the ravening flames, and the bottle in his dying grasp smashes on the floor and its oil ignites and sends the flames higher!

The two orcs beside him catch fire in a frightening chain reaction! One flaming brute survives (G14)! But the other is consumed by the hungry flames (G6) and, in turn, his oil bottle shatters as he falls, setting the southern end of the troll corpse alight, as well as an orc corpse beneath which, Folco is hiding! The hobbit edges south, away from the the blossoming danger!

The other orcs also back away from the growing inferno! Those closest to the roaring conflagration (G14, G15) loose their flaming oil at the dwarves before the bottles explode in their very hands! Fear ruins their aim and neither fiery missile strikes its target, but their flames erupt in the tunnel!

The still-burning orc (G14) lunges east, around the troll, to escape the flames, and runs headlong into the ax of Glasik the dwarf, which finishes him in a rain of black blood!

The orc tunnels are filling with black smoke, shouting and chaos!

Gilly grunts as the orcish blade threatens to find her guts. She rolls and comes up swinging! "Eat this, hellspawn!" she shouts.

With a quick look outside to ensure nothing is creeping up behind them, Naruthirdor steps up to cast Affect Smoke on the eastern corridor, hoping to choke that passageway with smoke right from where U5 and U6 are, and as far back as he can get it. "Here's hoping that causes some confusion in their ranks," he thinks to himself.
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.

Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!

Folco sees the bottles of orc oil flying over the barricade at his friends and he fears the worst. Knowing he needs to keep the rest of the orcs at bay, he pulls out another of his own oil flasks and prepares a second toss.

He stays as low as possible, hoping the flickering flames will hide him from the enemy. He tries to target an orc holding onto a torch again, (preferably 15 or 16) but if he doesn't see one of those, he will attempt to break his flask at the very edge of the flames in front of the lead orc, causing it to ignite from the already present flames.

Flames take root in the First ElvenKing's Hall, thanks to some well timed hobbit mischief! The baleful orc songs from the western channel die, and in their place blossom a roaring inferno, shouting, smoke and chaos!

Suddenly, the corrupted, twisted fiends see Folco crouching at the edge of his handiwork, and hurl bottles of flaming oil down upon him with hateful vengeance!



Scorching missiles explode all around the hobbit, burning him (-9hp) and setting his clothes alight! But brave little Folco does not retreat. Instead another thrown oil flask, worthy of the renowned marksmanship of his people, is the catalyst for a second wildfire that sweeps through the western shaft! All the orcs there fall cursing and shrieking beneath the raging conflagration and are consumed alive! Only Folco endures, still engulfed in flames!

To the east, brutal savage Uruk-Hai roil forth from the orc tunnels, as thick as ants!



The Company brace themselves for the surging thicket of orc-swords! Blessed with the good fortune that ever favours the virtuous, they emerge unscathed from the ferocious onslaught except Gilly who almost evades a hooked iron blade (-2hp).

With a whispered word, Naruthirdor the elf conjures smoke from the western bonfire of the orcs to swirl into the eastern channel, sowing confusion in the enemy ranks!

The broad shields and thick armor of the warlike Uruk-Hai beat back the Company's counterattack! But Therone cuts through their defenses and wounds a murderous Uruk warrior (U5) who roars in angry defiance!

Glasik readies to advance west but the roaring flames looming there force him to reconsider!

Then Elbenarin the Dunedain smites the last fearsome Uruk berserker dead (U1), flying its masked head from its shoulders! His brother Elbenwin echoes the fatal attack, breaking another Uruk warrior (U3) and driving it to the ground in bloodshed, pain and ruin!
