Continuing to call back to his companions in elvish as he strikes at the massive troll

If we meet in the middle and fall back to the tunnel we entered we only have to face them on a single front.

To his dwarf companions

Strike the troll perhaps it's corpse can slow down the others.

[1d20+1] = 13+1 = 14

[1d12+1] = 1+1 = 2 (+2 for level)

Gilly feels like something just punctured her spleen as the troll nearly lifts her off her feet! She spits blood as she retreats, swinging her pick wildly at the beast. "Is that all ya got!" she taunts the beast in Orcish.
Footman's Pick: [1d20] = 8 Damage: [2d4+1] = 2+1 = 3

Even Red is afraid as he snaps his teeth at the oncoming hulk!
Red Attacks: [1d20] = 1 Bite Dmg: [1d4] = 2
Winter is coming...

Glasik Ironfoot

Livid with rage after seeing the troll injure his sister, Glasik starts spewing obscenities in Orcish at the troll. He then taunts it, trying to draw it's focus away from Gilly even as he swings his axe at the brute. Hey, ugly! Try picking on someone strong as you for once, unless you're a coward!

Folco’s eyes light up after the suggestion from Naruthirdor that he attempt to hit the troll with the oil flask. He takes it happily and gives the thing a strong whirl.

Thrown item [1d20+3] = 3+3 = 6

He hangs his head at whatever disastrous result occurs from his errant throw, hoping none of his friends are distracted or hit.

Tinuwen backs out of the cave. Once outside, she keeps her back to the wall adjacent to the door and scans the valley to see whether any other denizens have come forth.

The Lost Halls of the First ElvenKing, Mountains of Mirkwood, Rhovanion, Middle Earth
Night. March 22, Year One of the Fourth Age
Day Four. Damp, cold

With a ferocious crash of steel, the company withstand another onslaught of the hateful spawn of darkness and evil!

Feeling the front line collapsing backward, Tinuwen scouts outside the cave in case their retreat cannot be stopped! There, no sign of life stirs in the dread vale of ageless shadow. The elf maiden realizes the acoustics of the rock walls silence the cacophony inside the tunnels! But were the fray to spill out into the ravine, the sounds of battle would be heard at every cave mouth facing into the box canyon!

Inside the dark orc hole, Naruthirdor hands little Folco a flask and the hobbit hurls it at the vast looming threat of the gigantic troll! Fear ruins his aim and the glass vial shatters against the wall, spraying crystal shards and oil!

A wicked smiling orc gets a devious notion and barks, "Bring fire and oil!" A horrendous malformed fiend behind him (G18) runs off, only too happy to comply.

Therone's taunts illicit more dark promises from the depraved inhuman horde, "Don't fret, little girl. We'll soon put that dirty she-elf mouth of yours to good use!"

On the eastern front, the heroes do not retreat as Elbenarin decapitates another monstrous villain! (G11)

On the western front, Elbenwin and Glasik strike the fearsome troll with sword and ax, but the immense monster is only angered by their resistance!

Gilly spits blood and vengeful oaths of ruination as the valiant heroes keep falling back before the advance of the horrific towering menace!

Glasik Ironfoot

Continuing their tactical retreat, the burly dwarf buries his axe deep into the troll. Today you die, you ugly son-of-a-diseased-goat!

Elbenarin stands shoulder to shoulder with Rumil to defend this flank.

Long Sword Attack [1d20+1] = 13+1 = 14 (THACO=19)
Long Sword Damage = S/M: [1d8+1] = 3+1 = 4 / L: [1d12+1] = 8+1 = 9

OOC: I forgot that orcs and goblins are considered 'giant' so it would be +2 dmg / hit.

Footman's Pick: [1d20] = 7 Damage: [2d4+1] = 8+1 = 9

Gilly tries to follow her brother's lead, but her guts burn and blood runs down her leg, and her swing is weakened for it.
Beside her, Red barks and snarls and nips at anything that comes near...
Red Attacks: [1d20] = 6 Bite Dmg: [1d4] = 4

Folco can’t stand seeing his friends being hurt in combat while he stands idly by. He unfurls his leather sling and looses a missile at the nearest deserving target, likely the troll.

Sling Bullet [1d20+6] = 19+6 = 25 Damage s/m:[1d4+1] = 4+1 = 5 l:[1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3

Realizing that the fight must stay inside, Tinuwen rushes back inside, firing off an arrow at the cave troll.

To hit with bow [1d20+5] = 6+5 = 11

Naruthirdor backs up toward the cavern entrance, torch in one hand and magic dagger in the other. He backs up enough to stay out of the way of the lines of fighters, but not so far that he deprives the western passage of it's much needed light!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

The Lost Halls of the First ElvenKing, Mountains of Mirkwood, Rhovanion, Middle Earth
Night. March 22, Year One of the Fourth Age
Day Four. Damp, cold

Within the dank fetid orc-tunnels, the deadly wild fray rages on!

On the eastern front, Elbenarin's cheek is gashed by a crude iron blade! (1hp damage)

Therone's orc-like obscenities continue to cheer the vile debased spawn of Morgoth, warming the lewd cockles of their twisted black hearts. "You were born to be an orc-wife," they laugh, unaware these are the last words they will ever speak.

Rumil and Elbenarin, standing shoulder to shoulder like fearless warriors of old, slash their gleaming elf-swords in blurs of silver!

Two orcs fall headless!

At the subterranean crossroads, Folco the hobbit hurls a stone into the pitch battle and strikes the fearsome troll between the eyes, enraging it further! Tinuwen leaves the thorns and bramble of the ravine floor, races back into the cave, and looses an arrow that shatters against the tunnel roof!

On the western line, Glasik the dwarf narrowly evades the murderous blow of the giant troll!

His sister Gilly is weak from blood loss, and her weapon is slippery with crimson! But Glasik and Elbenwin the Dunedain strike the terrifying troll with fell-handed strikes of ax and sword that smite the giant monster dead!

The heroes leap back in the nick of time to avoid being crushed by its vast corpse as it falls with the dread finality of a hewn tree!

(Next round...)

Overwhelmed and staggered by the death of the troll, the craven orcs on the western flank (G6, G13-17) break and flee for their lives! Before the heroes can act, they disappear into the darkness to the northwest!

And on the opposite flank, Rumil and Ebenarin suddenly hear the trod of iron-shod feet echoing up the eastern shaft!

Actions?!

Map:

Non-required Reading (rolls and rulings):
Initiative: Good: [1d6] = 2, Evil: [1d6] = 3 Evil wins again.
Troll attacks Glasik: [1d20] = 5, damage: [1d10+2] = 2+2 = 4 Misses.
G6 attacks Elbenwin: [1d20] = 14, damage: [1d6] = 3 Misses.
G9, G10 attack Rumil and Elbenarin: [1d20] = 3, [1d20] = 20. Damage: [1d6] = 2, [1d6] = 1 Elbenarin is hit for 1hp damage.
Folco hits troll with stone? (75%): [1d100] = 48 Yes.
Tinuwen rolled too poorly to hit friend or foe.
Next round:
Next round: Initiative: Good: [1d6] = 5, Evil: [1d6] = 6 Evil wins again.
The orcs on the western flank flee. None are currently engaged in melee, so the heroes get no opportunity attacks against them.

"If we are not leaving, do we want to prepare some oil on the floor for when they come. To use fire to our advantage," Naruthirdor suggests. Therone
The tips of her ears scarlet with fury, Therone falls back with the others, readying for a new assault. She takes a position near where Tinuwen is on the map, her sword in hand. We still face the chance that they'll flank us, coming in from the outside. Watch our backs!

Standing at an intersection puts us at a disadvantage as it gives to many flanks they can attack us from. Pick a tunnel and lets move, or else retreat form the tunnels all together.

elbenwin quickly bandages his wounds
