05. Journey to O'Hare
Re: 05. Journey to O'Hare
"Bread? ... and butter?" Gwillt says with a hint of anger in his voice. "Are we paying customers with silver coin?" he calls out to the retreating Gustov, " or prisoners, to be kept in the dark and watched, friend Gustav?" Gustov pauses momentarily, looks as though he was about to turn to address the comment, but reconsiders and begins to climb the stairs to the upper level as quickly as his frame will allow.

Strange indeed
Epsilon ponders.
Now who here is amost excellent climber?

"Well," Gwillt lets out a deep breath. Then he shakes his head, "I shouldn't a said that. Before we force any rats out of their holes, I suggest we stock up on supplies, if possible. Shall we break our fast on the way to the general store with this glorious meal of bread and butter?"
He stands, slings his pack over his shoulder, checks to make sure everything is in place, then grabs a few rolls and tosses a copper piece onto the table as he heads to the door.
Gwillt will step outside and orient himself before heading to get supplies from the store mentioned by Gustov.

Gwilt grabs a few rolls and tosses a copper piece onto the table as he heads to the door. He step outside and begins to orient himself. The store, based on the direction Gustov pointed, is off to the east. The temple, on the far side of town, is behind the Inn to the west.
---
Inside the Inn, while the remainder of the party decides what they're going to do or finalizes the collection of their possessions, several loud voices are heard from the upper floor. While the actual words cannot be made out, the general tone is one of anger... with the voices increasing in volume, and you suspect number.

Re: 05. Journey to O'Hare
Sounds as if our host is having a not so friendly disagreement. Shall we investigate?
Re: 05. Journey to O'Hare
If Gwillt does not hear the commotion from within the bar, he will head east towards the store. If he does hear it, he would obviously return to see what the commotion is all about.dmw71 wrote:Gwilt grabs a few rolls and tosses a copper piece onto the table as he heads to the door. Can we get a clarification: East or West? I dont know if it matters, but wanted to confirm.dmw71 wrote:Gustov...: "Aye, there be a village store just west of here." he starts, turning and pointing in its general direction.
Ewell finishes his bread and rises, " Yes let's. The sooner we rid this town of trouble, the sooner my name is written upon its center square. He says with a smile.

The direction provided in original post was in error. The temple is behind the Inn to the west. The store is also beyond the Inn but in the opposite direction -- east.onlyme wrote:Can we get a clarification: East or West? I dont know if it matters, but wanted to confirm.

Re: Breakfast with Gustov
"Anyone giving any credence to the 'its for your protection' line? It could be this is a town in fear? Or am I being too generous?" wonders Kaltar to his companions.dmw71 wrote:"Mr. Gustov, there is magic everywhere. It is part of the world itself." Gustov tilts his head slightly, considering Epsilon's statement, when Strom asks: "Is there a church or temple in town?" Gustov perks up. "A temple, you say?" The innkeeper shifts his ample body to face the warrior. "Why yes, good sir, we do have a temple. A majestic one, at that. 'Tis the large building on the far side of town. Perhaps you noticed it when you arrived?" (ooc: It is the "larger structure" mentioned here.)
The demeanor of the host quickly turns more defensive when he hears Ewell issue the following comment "I must admit, your rooms are a bit on the dark side. I am used to sleeping with the sky in sight and fresh air around. You may want to think about installing some windows if you get the chance."
"You find the room unacceptable?" he starts, beginning to rise from the table. "You'll notice, there are windows all along the Inn, including where the rooms are. The extra wall is fer yer own protection." Now almost to his feet, he mumbles something about trying to find Guillaume and ambles off.

Gwilt begins to hear loud voices coming from inside the Inn while attempting to orient himself after stepping outside. There are many overlapping voices, several of which seem to have moved towards the stairway, and coming your way. "Let's get them!" "They don't belong here!" "Where were they last night?" calls can now be made out and it quickly becomes clear that what you're hearing is the formation of a mob, and not a disagreement Gustov might be having with other tenants.

Ewell ready to investigate, realizes that the investigation is coming to him. He instinctively grabs "his" longsword, leaving the nasty, poorly welded orcish one sheathed. He steps toward the stairwell to protect those members of the party who may not care as much for quelling* a mob.
*I have no idea if that is the right word, or if it is a word at all.

Walking back inside to determine the cause of the commotion, and seeing the youth step towards the stairs with drawn sword, Gwillt immediately unshoulders his bow and sets a broadhead arrow to string. He takes a knee to steady his shot and draws a bead on the highest step he can see...
"What's going on up there? Why is your sword out, kid?"
*Excellent choice of words, onlyme.

Some screaming going on upstairs. Sounds like a bunch of folks don't like us being here.

Epsilon moves foward and places a friendly hand on the young warriors shouloder.
Please friends let us not hasen to violence. I am sure there is a misunderstanding here mixed with a generous mistrust of strangers.
Epsilon will step on the stairs prepared to meet those coming down with his staff in one hand and ankh in the other.
"Greetings o' townsfolk of this lovely hamlet. Please let us cease hostility and sit and discuss any issues that have a risen, in the name of Thoth we will speak with you truthfully.
After all You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers, but you can tell whether a man is wise by his questions"

Re: 05. Journey to O'Hare
Strom was about to declare his intentions to visit the temple when the noise from upstairs distracted him. When the words became clearer he moved his hand to the hilt of his sword.
The taint of evil has festered through the night and now it seeks to challenge those who walk in the light.
At Kaltar's words he smiles I am fully recovered friend although it appears the time of rest will be short lived.

Shannigans knots his gear and hoists it onto his back for travel just as the commotion reaches a decible level usually adherred to violence. His heightened listening devulges the 'mob's' angst. "Last night? We were here. We offered to assist to resolve any problems that the town may be having and our offers fell on deaf ears. Now are you all accusing us of such problems?"
The halfling shakes his head in disbelief momentarily.

Ewell ready to investigate, realizes that the investigation is coming to him. He instinctively replaces the acquired orcish long sword with his own. He steps toward the stairwell to protect those members of the party who may not care as much for quelling a mob. Gwilt, returning to the Inn, sees Ewell step towards the stairs with drawn sword and he immediately unshoulders his bow and sets a broadhead arrow to string. He takes a knee to steady his shot and draws a bead on the highest step he can see... "What's going on up there? Why is your sword out, kid?" Not taking his eyes off the stairway, Ewell replies: "Some screaming going on upstairs. Sounds like a bunch of folks don't like us being here."
Epsilon moves foward and places a friendly hand on the young warriors shoulder. "Please, friends, let us not hasten to violence. Epsilon steps around the young cavalier and assumes a position on the first step, prepared to meet those coming down with his staff in one hand and ankh in the other. "I am sure there is a misunderstanding here, mixed with a generous mistrust of strangers."
Kaltar finds his hand fall to his mace. Armed with a full compliment of daily spells, he confirms Strom, his original travel companion, is well. At Kaltar's words he smiles I am fully recovered friend although it appears the time of rest will be short lived.

The first mob member rounds the turn in the stairway separating the upper and lower floors.
Epsilon addresses the leader of the mob: "Greetings o' townsfolk of this lovely hamlet. Please let us cease hostility and sit and discuss any issues that have a risen, in the name of Thoth we will speak with you truthfully."
The leader continues his descent with the unknown number of others streaming behind him.
"After all You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers, but you can tell whether a man is wise by--" Epsilon is interrupted as the leader forces his way past Epsilon, and around Ewell, ultimately spilling into the common room, clearly not paying attention to anything being said.
The fearlessness displayed by this force of men, all while unarmed and unarmored, is a bit unsettling.
"You are no longer welcome here." he states in a monotone voice.
You notice Gustov is amongst the mass of locals, so far numbering eight in total, but he does not speak and hardly acknowledges the party.
"You must leave... now." this leader states.
Aside from the leader speaking, no other inhabitant raises an arm or does anything that could be perceived as being threatening.

"Care to explain why you've chosen to ignore the common courtesies of the land?", Gwillt asks, releasing tension on his bowstring and slowly standing up.
