Re: 11-Skullport-Trip 2- After the Fat Man!
Roseheart considers the proposal "a bold plan. What would be your contingency plan should he detect you? Can you escape quickly? Another option is one of us could pose as a slave and you tag along on that person. Might be more safe and allow you to move around more freely...Of course, getting out of where you end up is another story that we might not be able to predict... "
Re: 11-Skullport-Trip 2- After the Fat Man!
Yes - bold ideas indeed!
So definitely a trip to see the clock, and then either Enoka will try to sneak up on the Fat Man in animal form, or maybe one of you might try to pose as a gladiatorial slave?
So next up - to the water clock!

Re: 11-Skullport-Trip 2- After the Fat Man!
"They are not just going to let a slave leave at the end...no slaves." Suggests Garl
Re: 11-Skullport-Trip 2- After the Fat Man!
Altos agrees with Garl, none of these twisted organizations would want a slave getting free. So an if it worked you might create way too many enemies. Better to focus on the Fat Man.
OK,quick split of the party, some to the water clock, some to the market. The two locations are both fairly close together.

Re: 11-Skullport-Trip 2- After the Fat Man!
Another dreary slog later through the wretched near black streets, and you enter the lower trade ways down by the slave market. In the distance you bin to hear the crash of the black river Sargauth beating against her banks. It is down there that both the water clock and slave market lie
Coming in closer you split into two groups some of you heading toward a large dial face o the clock, the others right down to the slave markets.
The water clock stands perhaps forty feet off the floor of the cavern. River water is directed up into a large vessel high up from the ground. That water flows down through a series of complex gears all sealed behind a layer of glass, and those gears run movements that extend out and up into the fave of the clock. It really is quite grand, a massive engineering marvel.
The face does have the symbol of Gond upon it and other runes, and the clock tells the time, day, month, and tracks some celestial positions although you would need to study that more to figure out what it is tracking.
The large pieces of the dial are lit with a luminescence of some sort to be visible throughout much of the trade lanes.
Next the slave market.

Re: 11-Skullport-Trip 2- After the Fat Man!
As a few of you slip off to look at the water clock, Vek takes the other halpf the party directly down to the slave market.
Almost nothing has changed since your last trip, a large crowd of spectators crowd about a short dias, where slaves are sold. This horrible practice seems to go on night and day. You see that the slaves are chained to blocks on one end, and members of the iron ring slaver guild are running the show.
In the crowd food venders huck sweet meats and candies, while e horrific trade progresses. It all is like one big evil circus.
There are a few buildings surrounding the open market and iron ring guards peer down at the crowds with man-catchers and crossbows.

Roseheart looks around to see where the slaves are coming from and where they are led to once sold...

Forrest
Follows Gimble to the clock looking this way and that. It occurs to him that maybe he will see one of the three men that attacked him earlier and he can point them out. Somehow, he knows that might be an important thing, though he can't imagine why.

Glimble marvels at the clock and it's craftsmanship "Simply marvelous." however realizing other important things he sticks with Forrest and heads over to the slave market with Vek. "Lets stick together this time Forrest. Lets go see what Vek is up to."

Tella - Elf Mage
Wading into the sea of filthy folks Tella will stay near Vek and try to ascertain where the bidders might be. Clearly they put folks on the platform, but if I had a lot of gold I would would not be down here with this lot. I would have a proxy down here that I could signal from somewhere more defensible and had better drinks'n snacks. Tella will peer closer at the buildings that surround the filth pit, do any appear to have balconies or other provisions for bidders?

Looking around, you note that there is a group of bidder siting a bit further back along the base of one of the buildings. He is sitting in a raised chair, so he can see above the crowd. Near to the first is a party of three Calishite men drinking thin white wine upon a raised platform. It appears those with wealth sit in raised seats the bring for themselves.
Watching the market for a while, you see that the slaves are always brought from the dark island which sits down in the thrashing river. The cavern creates an area of slower current and the iron ring has built a fortress upon the island consisting of several buildings linked with chains and atone walls. You also note that bidding occurs through a complex series of hand gestures relayed through the crowd while iron ring clerks continue a constant stream of price auctioning.
There seem to be at least three main entrances to the market, where the trade way streets merge into the market. There are plenty of guards down by the dias, there are only a few snipers above, but they have a good view of the whole market, and there are other figures up there as well - black cloaked shapes.

Tantos Vek, failed paladin:
The corners of Vek's mouth lowered. "Not the ideal spot for an assassination," he rasped softly to his friends. "One of us could do it and use the potion of phasing to escape straight down into the sewers, while everyone else raided his keep," the killer croaked skeptically, just trying the idea on for size. "If the attempt fails, he withdraws to the safety of his keep and we're waiting for him."
"How else could we play it?"

Forrest
Listening to Vek, he ask his simple question. "Why here? Why not get him when he's in between? Lieutenant Dan always said we were in more danger when we walked from place to place than when we got there. Would it be the same for him?"

Glimble "I'm not battle tactician but that actually makes sense Forest. What do you think Garl, Vek, everyone?"

Roseheart shrugs "Might work. Where do we mean by 'in-between' tho? That is something we'd need to figure out. Or are we planning on making this up as we go? Is that the Fat Man there on that platform? We need to be careful of those folks up top on the roofs - those cloaked figures could spell casters - or worse"

Glimble speaking in a slightly lower tone "Some sneaking suspicion I have makes me think the cloaked figures might be Drow."

Forrest
Beams under praise. "We used to get all nervous around narrow places. Maybe we should go take a look at the road between here and the keep and see if there is a good place."
Looks up at the cloaked people.
OOC: DM: I know it would be a long shot, but can I roll INT or WIS to see if Forrest knows anything about the cloaks or the snipers?
