Mako:

"AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! …. what the?" Mako quickly grabs hold of the rope as his decent is quickly slowed.
"The gods had mercy on meeeeeeee!" he cries as his fall then resumes but not nearly as fatal as it could have been. The gods must be toying with him yet again. How cruel they can be sometimes. Mako lands with a wet thud as he falls into a mixture of dung and human bile. The stench threatens to invade his senses. Knowing danger is imminent and fears of loosing the only meal he has gained in several days, he doesn't hesitate to move quickly with the others to a faint outline of the door. He waits in the rear as newest and very muscular member of this group uses his might to open the door.

Gronda looks at her hand in disbelief. How has she mysteriously gained yet another mark on her body? Will this be there forever like the rest of her tattoo's and many scars? What does this symbol mean, she quietly wonders.

She pops open the secret door as fast as she can, being certain that the monsters behind the now much smaller group will barge into the room anytime now.

We must continue on!

Unless some of you would rather go back to face the bugs and square gello?

Garrin Locke:

Garrin looks at the white blemish on his hand and sucks wind through his teeth as if he has been stung, "What symbol of heresy is this?" He immediately falls to his knees and asks for forgiveness for his transgressions, praying he has not become tainted in the eyes of Lord Mitra.

Biblo Phyle, libriomancer

As the vomit subsides the rope is cut. I land painfully in the muck of bug and rot. My poor robe. Someone tries to help me. I move as fast as I can to the door. Something is wrong with it - broken?

Roan, Son of Rune

The barbarian strides forward behind Atilla, and scoops a handful of water into his dry mouth. And then another. And then another.

Day One
The Great Pyramid of the Lost City, Great Eastern Desert, the World of Hyboria
13th day of the month of Yuluk, 1279th year of the Age of Aquilonia
Evening. Hot, arid, cloudless

Image

Within the reeking, buzzing chamber of gem-like scarabs, the lost explorers flee. Kiri's boundless strength forces open the southwest door, pushing back the haphazard, makeshift barricade beyond it.

Elsewhere, separated by timeless stone and space, inside the exalted shrine of the oracle, Loche the Pict awaits the others with a look of concern. His sharp ears hear the barricade break. "Och! They're comin' at last!"

Arthfael, Biblo, Kiri and Mako flee the crawling, flesh-eating scarabs and slam the door behind them, plunging themselves into absolute darkness. The relentless humming of insect wings echoes in their minds as Biblo lights a candle and they find themselves at the bottom of a dark, stone stairwell.

They cautiously climb up into a rough-hewn hall. Ahead, a torch burns.

Image

It's the thief, Loche. He hisses at them from a door-like opening in the right hand wall. "This wey, ye laggards!"

Further ahead, the rugged corridor turns left. Eerie spectral light emanates from around the corner. The unnatural illumination grows brighter.

Image

"Hurry now, afore et returns!" urges the Pict with fear in his voice.

They rush through Loche's open door, passing from the rough tunnel into a magnificent shrine of the ancients.

Loche pushes the stone door shut behind them and says, "Whit took ye?!"

Ahead, in the hushed, secret chapel is a sacred font and the rest of the adventurers, who do not count invisible Biblo among the newcomers' number.

Beneath carvings of the dead god Osorus, barbaric Attila and Roan cup their hands and gulp the clear, scintillating water of the holy fountain. They drink to slake their thirst. Miraculously, their wounds begin to heal. (+4 and 8hp respectively)

Attila frowns at something on the back of his hand and tears at his flesh trying to remove it. The shape grows back.

Garrin of Argos finds a mark on the back of his hand. The son of Atlantis falls to his knees praying for forgiveness.

Gronda the savage pulls open a hidden door in the stone of the north wall. It opens onto another wall, of thick spiderwebs; dense, translucent and bearing vague shadow shapes deep within its gossamer embrace.

Kiri looks around the small chamber at the survivors he hasn't met yet and smiles politely. "I'm Kiri. It's a pleasure to meet you, since I fully expected to be dead at this time." He briefly puts his hands together and nods. "Did the sorcerer Biblio arrive with us?" he continues, "...I grabbed him, afraid he was too sick to run, but he squirmed away. Biblio, are you here? ...oh, he's invisible currently." Unable to resist, and too thirsty to contemplate the implication of the marks on everyone's hands or where they came from, he goes to the fountain and drinks deeply.

Gronda is amazed that the others yet live. How could they have evaded the deadly bugs and also slipped past that awful cube alive, she thinks to herself.

Once she sees the drinkers wounds heal, she wishes that she would have thought to drink from the random pool of water in this unwelcoming place.

Still afraid to drink herself, she does the only other thing she can think of. She backs away from the spider web wall before something jumps out at her.

Any of you priests got healing left? I am badly injured.

Garrin Locke:

The holy knight refrains from partaking of the font waters. He hopes he has not already damned his soul by communing with these gods of sand and stone. He finishes his prayer and makes his way over to the web choked doorway. "We should burn away this webbing with a torch." He looks to those with such means.

Attila

Attila wipes the water from his lips with the back of his hand and looks over at Garrin Locke. "I have the means. I am good with torches."

He retrieves one from his traveler's pack of sturdy Hyrkanean design and sets it alight. Speaking freely of the role fire plays in the Hyrkanean ritual of obtaining manhood, he begin to set the gossamer ablaze.

Biblo Phyle, eclecticmancer

I marvel at the ancient cunieform but realize it must wait, for my wounds are too great. The others are drinking miraculous healing waters. I do the same.

Gronda refuses, seeking divine healing. I approach sand offer to help. "I am here next to you, yet not. Stay calm and Ibis will heal thy wounds."

CLW [1d8] = 5
Note: If Biblo doesn't get healed by the waters, he'll use the CLW on himself.

Roan, Son of Rune

The barbarian feels his extensive wounds heal and he marvels at the effects of the holy water. "Who but the gods could create healing waters?" he murmurs looking around the chamber.
His senses return when Attila begins to burn away the spiderwebs. Realizing he also holds a torch, the walks over to help.

Deep within the Great Pyramid, inside a secret shrine, Biblo, Kiri Khutan and Mako drink deeply of the holy font of Osorus. The strange, life-giving waters miraculously mend their injuries and restores their vigor. (+5, 4 and 4hp respectively)

Gronda the savage backs away from the web-choked portal that she had opened.

Image

She requests healing and invisible Biblo complies with an orison to Ibis, god of knowledge and of magic. (+5hp)

The barbarians Attila and Roan use torches to set the dense webs ablaze. Within the flaming gossamers, human bones fall to the stone floor with a clatter as the webs that trapped them burn away.

The webs quickly recede, and a terrible shape emerges.

Image

Burned but still alive, a gigantic tarantula invades the secret shrine, escaping the flames.

Image

Its body is ten feet long and horribly, that body writhes with a life of its own.

Image

Its back is crawling with baby spiders. The outer layer of spiderlings perish, screaming in the flashfire, revealing another living layer beneath! Each as big as a rat, a torrent of dozens of the ghastly arachnid spawn pours off their mother, racing from the flames toward the adventurers!

Mako:

Mako thrusts his dry waterskin into the pool of water. He keeps in submerged until the bubbling ceases and then corks it shut. It may be long while until another water source can be found.
