Recruiting for Treasure Hunt AD&D 2e
Well met from Tragic Tales,
A bit about myself. I’m a long time gamer that cut my teeth on the D&D Red Box in the early 80s. My gaming group progressed from the basic edition to AD&D 1e. At that age it was so much better to be playing by advanced rules instead of just the basic. We made the transition to 2e but that is as far as I have gone with Dungeons and Dragons system. Of course, we were all great fans of the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon.
Over the years my original gaming group slowed down in meeting due to careers and family but never truly stopped. I did start to dabble with play by post as I enjoy writing and roleplaying. Play by post was a natural fit for me. My activity waxed and waned with real life. Now being more or less locked in, I have found more time on my schedule and am seeking new adventuring companions.
System: AD&D 2e
Setting: Sword Coast of the Forgotten Realms
Crunchy Bits: I am well versed in the rules and setting. Mechanically everyone will be responsible for their own rolls unless there is a reason; such as, an elf passing a concealed or secret door. Seeing through an illusion. Etc.
It will be mostly by the book with a few house rules. This will be detailed in the game. One house rule is hero points. You want your character to do cool things, I want your characters to do cool things. Hero points make that happen.
Fluffy Bits: I am here to take you on an adventure. This will be the tale of those characters. Not all encounters will be hack and slash. Nor is the adventure entirely a dungeon crawl, it is a mix of indoor and outdoor terrain. I do expect interaction between the characters and NPCs. I prefer a story post format told in the past tense. I reward detailed posts with bonuses.
• I attack the orc with my long sword. Result: roll the die.
• Luthgar entrenched his stance and jammed the butt of his spear into the earth. The orc’s war cry rang in his ears as he steadied the spear shaft and took aim. Result: roll two dice, keep the highest.
Player Expectations: Good grammar and spell check should be used. Posts should be at least two sentences and descriptive. I think two or three posts per week is reasonable for a good roleplay and real life balance. Although I would be open to more posts per week, if everyone is able.
The adventure will be based upon

Re: Interest Check for an AD&D 2e Game
I've always been intrigued by the concept of starting at zero level. I don't think the game ever happened, but N4 was being considered once upon a time.
I expect this game to fill up fast.

There are no AD&D 2e rules for zero level. As a work around, I plan to start the characters in a profession from the Sages & Specialists book https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sages_%26_Specialists . The professions include apothecary, appraiser, blacksmith, cartographer, engineer, guide, healer, historian, scribe and seer. Character will be built as one of those professions. When 1,500 experience is reached the character can enter an adventuring class.

I ran U1 on here a few years back and did something very similar, with characters starting out as commoners who eventually advanced into their individual adventuring careers.

If you are serious about your player expectations, and plan on enforcing that somehow, this sounds like something I would definitely like to try.

Interested
So there would be no spell casting or turning undead? Unless by sheer force of will and character dynamics?
Well am happy to start off as a bumpkin leaving family and farm for fame and fortune.

This looks interesting, I am interested. I tend to be short with my posts but can be more verbose if that is the expectation.

Shocking, I know.OGRE MAGE wrote:Looks like Dave was right.
I was very tempted to throw my hat into the ring myself, I'm just too crunched for time. I'm also not feeling 2e right now.
This will be a game I will try to follow, though. Or, maybe go back and read once it's over.

I would be very interested in this but I would need to learn the rules or be guided through it.

Interested as well but I am willing to be bumped for someone in fewer games than I am.

These are heroes. The gods of Faerun watch them and move them about according to their plans. Who knows what will earn their favor.Bluetongue wrote:Interested

Re: Interest Check for an AD&D 2e Game
If you end up with an extra spot, I'd be interested. I played and DMed many, many hours of AD&D back when it was the current version of the game. The DM was ferocious, we all died a lot.
