Waiting List: Baltimore by Night (Vampire the Masquerade)

#1 Post by ybn1197 »

Baltimore by Night aka CHarm City
Years ago, the Sabbat marched across the American southeast with all the subtlety and determination of Sherman’s March to the Sea. Nearly every Southern city of any importance fell to their crusade: Birmingham, Savannah, Atlanta, Charleston, Richmond, and, eventually, Washington and Baltimore, as the Crusade turned northward. Though hardly stable rulers, the Sabbat held their conquered territories for many years. But the Jyhad is inexorable, and the game ever changes.

Recently, the withdrawal of several high-ranking Sabbat has weakened Baltimore’s defenses, but as the Camarilla has been focusing it's attention on Birmingham, the vacuum has been filled with a marked increase in Anarchs. For the moment, the Camarilla has encouraged them to fight one another in anticipation of taking out the weakened winner.

But you are Kine (mortal) and have no knowledge of what truly takes place in the darkest shadows of night.
Checking for interest in a Vampire the Masquerade game. But this game will start a little different. Everyone will begin the game by making mortal characters. During the course of the initial part of the game, you will be embraced and made into Kindred; so what I will have everyone do is make two character sheets. One, a mortal using the normal character creation rules. Then, once you are embraced, you will update your character sheet to fill in the gaps for a full Kindred character. You are free to choose your clan and Kindred stats prior to the game starting so I know how to bring in your embrace.

Any interest? Questions? Concerns? Comments?

Players should have access to the Vampire the Masquerade rules (any version 1st through 4th will do, there are few changes between them) as there is no SRD available.

I am so in! :)

So, we are to create a character using the vampire rules? That's an awful lot of points for a mortal. Or are there rules for creating kine that I'm not aware of?

I already made a character in anticipation (ok, I made 3), can we adjust those stats to a mortal version? :)

And btw, will the chronicle be more mental, social or physical? ;)

The rules for Mortals are the same as for Vampires except you can not take Disciplines (duh!) or Kindred based Backgrounds (like Generation.) Instead of the usual 7/5/3, you have 6/4/3. Instead of 13/9/5, you have 11/7/4. You still get 5 background points and 15 freebies (normal Mortal games give you 21 freebies but this isn't a Mortal game so I am sticking with the 15 freebie points.) You do NOT have to spend all your background or freebies, you can save them for after your embrace.

I already made a character in anticipation (ok, I made 3), can we adjust those stats to a mortal version? :)

No problem. As long as I can see where the points are properly spent, I don't care. Just remember, you can not purchase, at any time, backgrounds that show a length of time in Kindred society. We are playing mortal > embrace > 1st day in kindred society. You will all be newbies to the world of the Kindred.

And btw, will the chronicle be more mental, social or physical? ;)

I am using Revised (3rd) edition rules with a 1st edition feel. It will be equal parts physical and mental with social running the remainder. We are playing in Baltimore, a city in crisis. The mortal population is tearing itself apart while the Sabbat and Anarchs run wild at night. The Camarilla is holed up in the suburbs around Baltimore and they are trying to take it back.

I am in. I have never played and plan on buying the rules. If I am in what do you recommend I get for rules?

The revised rules PDF is currently on sale on DriveThruRPG. :)

If you have the mad money to spend, go with the 20th Anniversary edition: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/94 ... 8329_20632. It basically collects all the core Revised edition rules and updates them. Otherwise, go with the Revised rules as Lance suggested, it is on sale and there is little difference in the core mechanics between the two.

Someone off site wanted me to ask if there were:
Any banned clans? Or bloodlines?
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Nothing among the official clans or bloodlines are banned. Anything not among the 7 clans of the Camarilla will require a discussion with myself but I am not outright banning anything official.

Are you still looking for more players?

What sort of posting rate are you hoping for?

I'm interested, always wanted to play but never got the chance.

I'm new to the rules so I'd probably keep it simple when it comes to my character.

Is there any constraints to character background to help bring people together?

No, in fact it is almost better if the characters either don't know each other or keep it to small groups. Like A & B know each other. C & D know each other. B & E know each other. Or no one knows anyone else. You will all start in a nightclub so don't make a character who has no reason to be in a club.

I'm right there with some of you. Have the books, never ended up playing. I'd be interested in joining the party.

As an ex Marylander who lived near good ol Bodymore, call me interested! I played oWoD and nWoD from the Hunter perspective and it'd be fun to approach from the other end! I'll have to buy the ruleset but that's no big deal.

Just out of curiosity, where did you live? I live near White Marsh so my knowledge of the city isn't perfect but I will do my best.

I am completely and utterly new to this site and to the system, but I saw the post on Reddit, and I am completely intrigued. Both me and my friend would love to join if there's room, so if you still have 2 spots open, think of us!

Here's to hoping this isn't a double post...

But I am super interested in this game. I am very new to both this site and this system as is a friend of mine. So, if you have two spots still open by some miracle, please think of us for your game!

EDIT: And so it was indeed a double post. So sorry about that.

I lived in Dundalk, so not right up IN the city but pretty close by! No worries, my info's a little out of date and the night scene has changed since I was hanging around them, I'm sure.

So no metalheads then? If so, I'll think of something. Edit: If it were a club with occasional live music, a rock musician might be hoping to arrange a gig, but if it's a dance-all-night-to-shitty-edm kinda place, I'll have to dust off my poet concept. :D

I haven't been on the continent even, so it must be better than my info off of wikipaedia. :D
