Questions and out-of-character discussions should be conducted here.

Interested in discussion character builds? The Session Zero topic is the perfect place for that.

You guys, while discussing character concepts, can start to feed off each other... and that's the place to do it.

Also, I want to highlight a new topic I created:

If anyone has any questions -- big or small -- about anything specific to 5e or how something works, that is the place to post it.

I have a half orc ranger (level 1) on D&D beyond that i used for a little. Would you be okay with me using that character? Haven't thought about the bonds you are asking for but that could likely be woven in - i suppose it doesn't have to be a 'good' bond exactly - but just thinking out loud.

I am not automatically going to create private forums for every character like I normally do (since a lot of times they end up going unused). However, do not hesitate to let me know if you're interested in having one for your character. I love them, and love to use them, and will happily set them up upon request.

My recommendation would be to rebuild your character as a new character in the campaign I set up. Sure, it's possible to add your existing one, but it might be easier to start from scratch to capture all the house rules (e.g. ability stat arrays, sources allowed, experience point progression, etc...) instead of trying to modify them on an existing character.

As for how a half-orc ranger would fit in the party... that would be a great discussion for the Session Zero topic. ;)

Just checking in. I see character sheets in D&D Beyond from everyone except ybn1197, which currently leaves us with the following as a quick overview:
  • ybn1197:
    • T.B.D.
  • Hadarai:
    • Floki, Dwarf, Sorcerer
  • Scott308:
    • Vinwrick, Halfling, Ranger
  • ravenn4544:
    • Tova, Dwarf, Cleric

I will admit that I have not been paying too close attention to the 'Session Zero' topic.

How are the bonds/relationships coming along? How close are we to being ready to kick things off?

ybn1197
, are you still interested in this game? How soon can we expect your character, and your bonds with the rest of the party?

We're not in a rush, but I am going to begin character sheet reviews for this game either later today or over the weekend. If your characters aren't completed (including the 'Description' and 'Notes' tabs), here's a gentle nudge.

If I have any notes during my review, I will post them here.

Also, if you (collectively) haven't already done so, please make sure to establish relationships in the Session Zero topic. The details from these Session Zero activities can/should be entered into the 'Notes' and/or 'Description' sections on your character sheets, as appropriate.

Thanks!

I'll have my sheet completed by sunday afternoon, it really only needs the description and background/bonds actually written down.

I've created a 'Session 1: ???' topic, which is locked, but in it I've added the character details I plan to track in the footer section.

Please review yours, and let me know if you spot any errors.

A few notes from my initial character review, which does not include the 'Description' or 'Notes' sections yet.
  • ybn1197
    • Gulnur should have 12 hit points, not 2.
  • Hadarai
    • Please check the ability score array used for Floki. It should be: 17, 15, 13, 12, 10, and 8. I see you used an 18 (instead of a 17) and a 14 (instead of a 15).
  • Scott308
    • No issues.
  • ravenn4544
    • You still need to make your four 1st-level spell selections for Tova.
  • SeaSaltSong
    • You need to make your spell selections as well; both cantrips and 1st-level.

No issues, Scott.

I noticed you mentioned spells known, not spells prepared. Is this a house rule, or just an oversight?
(Also, chosen. the deed is done)

My guess is the moving a racial modifier over as in house rules, and that's how he did it (Since one is higher than should be, and one is lower than should be)

Probably a copy-and-paste thing. I will update when I'm not on my phone (if I remember). So long as everyone understands what the spells listed are, I'm not overly concerned.

Also, two other Druid things to establish:

1) Which type of environment would be most appropriate for Kythaela given her background:
  • Arctic
    Coast
    Desert
    Forest
    Grassland
    Hill
    Mountain
    Swamp
If you could add this selection in the "Other" section under the 'Notes' tab on your character sheet? Let me know if you have any questions or problems.

2) Regarding:
  • "You choose whether your equipment falls to the ground in your space, merges into your new form, or is worn by it. Worn equipment functions as normal, but the DM decides whether it is practical for the new form to wear a piece of equipment, based on the creature’s shape and size. Your equipment doesn’t change size or shape to match the new form, and any equipment that the new form can’t wear must either fall to the ground or merge with it. Equipment that merges with the form has no effect until you leave the form."
Can we agree that, unless you state otherwise when you declare the action, the default action here is that your equipment merges with your new form?

Thanks!

Okay, I figured as much.

Okay, I did it. I'm not used to Beyond so it took a hot minute, but it's done. Forest makes the most sense.

And speaking of, I'll get you a proper backstory soon enough once the others respond in the session 0.

Yes. And as I go up in level wildshape will likely be used less in favor of spellcasting.

Looking at my character details, everything looks good- except I changed something. Since you have the rule on sleeping in medium armor, I decided he'll take the AC hit and go with leather so he doesn't have to take it off to sleep or have disadvantage on stealth checks. His AC is now 15 instead of 16. I don't know if you want to determine what our ranks were, but I believe that would be the last part of Vinwrick's background to work on.

Hadarai- you might want to look into taking a ranged attack cantrip. Right now, you have no ranged capabilities other than Chromatic Orb (and a thrown dagger). You probably don't want Floki in melee combat more than absolutely necessary. Cantrips in combat in 5e are critical- you'll use them far more than any other spells, as those slots will get used up quickly. Having said that, it is your character, so do what you want to do with him.

Oh yeah I was using the floating racial bonus rule but I wasn't sure how to adjust racial bonuses in dndbeyond so I adjusted the scores to fit instead. Is there a way to adjust racial scores?

Ha. I totally forgot about that rule.

I would just use the 'Other Modifier' field:

That way, the 'Base Score' and 'Racial Bonus' will reflect what they should be, but the end result will reflect your swapping.

Well, it's not my rule; it's the 'Sleeping in Armor' rule in Xantathar's Guide to Everything. I'm just choosing to enforce it.
