I love at that even the forum is "old school". No markdown for me (or perhaps I should use the Full Editor).

Yeah, it uses BBCode instead. I'm fairly used to that since I'm on a fair number of other forums. I don't even know that I've seen any forums where your can use Markdown. I'm passingly familiar with that, but don't know much of the syntax as easy as it is since I don't use it.ekendahl wrote:I love at that even the forum is "old school". No issues on my end - looks good!Lordbridge wrote:Test post from me as well.
You guys can go ahead and roll some stats and move this along if you're ready. Just put them in the Char Gen thread and we can work through the process together if you want a little help getting used to the system.
Re: OOC Open Table Chat I
Greetings. Glad to join you guys for some PbP in a setting I like.

It’s my first time trying play by post and first time playing red box. Long time ad&d player and currently DMing a 5e campaign.

Re: OOC Open Table Chat I
FYI - I have some more house rule stuff to post still. I should have time tomorrow to get a bunch done. For clerics, bonus spells for high Wis.
Re: OOC Open Table Chat I
Curious, where are you starting us out at? I see the maps of Karameikos posted and wonder if you are devising a new place or an existing locale?

Re: OOC Open Table Chat I
Question- is everyone on Discord? Robert (ekendahl) brought up the idea of also having a Discord or Slack channel for quicker chat in addition to the forum here. Due to the slower moving nature of pbp, I'm not convinced it's needed, to be honest, but if you all want it, I can certainly set up a Discord server too. I'd just prefer to keep it all in one spot if we can. Up to you - vote away!

Re: OOC Open Table Chat I
You'll be starting in Volaga, that village shown south of Kelvin. It's not canon at all. This will be a fairly loose game, more based on the original, undefined Karameikos described in BX, X1 and B10 more than the detailed GAZ1 version. I want a "make it your own" version, you know? I'll draw bits from the published material, but not sticking religiously to any of it.VonAlric wrote:Curious, where are you starting us out at? We'll start in the area of eastern Karameikos where B10 is set, and I may eventually use a lot of it (if we last that long) but I'll also drop in lots of little things and see what develops in play too. Have you read B10? Know the details of that module (Dark Nights Terror)?
Re: OOC Open Table Chat I
Unless I was going to run the module, I never read it nor do I know too many details, or even a little detail for that matter. All be new to me.Koren n'Rhys wrote:You'll be starting in Volaga, that village shown south of Kelvin. It's not canon at all. I've done a bit more in my last game using the GAZ1 material to get more info on a few of the places and people I wanted then corrupted it from there.

Great! It's got some great stuff to use, even if I don't run the overall adventure. Glad you'll get to enjoy it.

Re: OOC Open Table Chat I
So yeah - due warning. I'm HORRIBLE about house rules. I read blogs, forums, other peoples HR documents and find stuff all the time that looks cool and I think - hey, I should try that! Then I waffle back to keeping it simple as as close to by the book as possible. It's a constant struggle between maintaining the simplicity of BX and wanting more options for the players...
I will try NOT to make (too many) changes once the game actually starts but I recommend you subscribe to that thread and note changes as I make them.
I'm certainly open to feedback too, so let me know if you love or hate something in particular.
And of course, I just made a change to the house rules for ability score rolls to make those more in-line with the "standard" house rules I've seen. I decided the gold thing was too fiddly. If anyone wants to tweak their rolls based on that, feel free. Or leave them as-is if you're happy and had used the swap for your gold roll option. Entirely up to you guys.

Doh! I went back and looked and you made a change about the editing the stats for rolling 4d6 drop lowest. Guess I need to change those ranger stats back....

No, you're fine! That change is going forward - no need to change what you've already done since I made the change AFTER you rolled him up.VonAlric wrote:Doh! And then I went and changed him back before you posted! Cool. I'll get around to updating and outfitting him later on.Koren n'Rhys wrote:No, you're fine! Re: OOC Open Table Chat I
Hey everyone - just moving things along a bit here. VonAlric has his two characters done, and I've asked him to go ahead and post them in the Character Sheets thread. Please check those out if you haven't played here before - they are great examples of how to fill out the character sheet form, use the Notes tab for class/race abilities and so on.

Please let me know if you are unclear on the next steps for creating your characters, or have any specific questions

One thing to note in the Notes tab. When you get to that tab and click the note link, you will type the header for the note first and save it. After that, when you click the edit, you can then add in all of the text as you want to see it.

Re: OOC Open Table Chat I
Quick player status update: ekendahl has dropped out for now due to some personal stuff that's cropped up. I also need to reach out to DrApathy on Discord and see if he's still in or not.
If no, how do you want to handle moving onward? I'm open to just trying to scale things for the small party (plus hirelings if you want to do that) or I can post here looking for another player or two. Thoughts?
