Newbie Looking for OD&D/1e/OS Clone Game

#1 Post by KesselZero »

Hey all, I've played a LOT of D&D in my day but started with 2e and moved forward from there as time went on. I've gotten very interested in old-school play and I would like to someday run a 1e or similar campaign, but I have to play it first! (To, you know, learn the rules.) So to that end I'm looking to join a game, ideally in 1e AD&D or one of its clones. I have the OSRIC pdf and a copy of the 1979 DMG I picked up somewhere but that's about it. Tons of tabletop experience and a fast learner, but I'd be new to these particular rules and to PbP. I'm most interested in playing an old-school dungeoncrawl type game but I'm up for anything cool.

Welcome KZ! Good to see you here!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Welcome to the Unseen Servant forums!

Not sure if there is anything open at the moment, but...

We do have a few games that are still in their beginning stages and, with a little bit of finagling, I think something could be worked out.

There is one game I'm in, Pod-Caverns of the Sinister Shroom, where we've still not done much by way of story advancement so it might not be a big deal for me to drop out and you to jump in, if you and the DM (the afore commenting rredmond) are both open to the idea. I was just filling in the last open spot when it didn't seem like it was going to be filled.

Believe me, I have plenty on my plate to keep me busy (alright, and I was forcing myself to play a straight MU in that game... something I'm not terribly good at). I'd be happy to create an opening for you, if you're really interested in joining an OSRIC-rules game.

Just speak up if that interests you and I'm sure we can work something out.

Hey Al,

That would be fantastic, if rredmond is open to it. Thanks so much for the offer!

And RR-- thanks for bringing me over here!

I think he crawls the Dragonsfoot forums and directs interested parties here. That's where he hooked me.

Welcome!

You've definitely come to the right place. While getting you placed into a game gets sorted out (I'm sure it will happen quickly), I would recommend you review the topics in the 'Tips For the Player' forum. There is some excellent advice within for those new to play-by-post games.

Enjoy!

I don't know if we officially lost anyone in the 'Slave Pits of the Undercity' game, but perhaps KesselZero could assume control of a character without a player instead of turning them into a true NPC?

Just a thought.

Another great idea, especially since those were all pre-rolled characters, to begin with, Dave!

Dragonsfoot, Knights-n-Knaves and Goblinoid are the only places I've gotten folks from I believe. ;)

I'm good with whatever you all think, sounds okay by me. I think everyone is still in the Slavers game though... just some folks had RL go a bit chaotic recently. :D

Yup, he brought me over from K&KA where I've been delving for ancient wisdom. Thanks for all the suggestions and help so far, all. I'm very excited to get started! I'll read through those player tips tonight. Already been poking around some of the actual game threads... :geek:

And another welcome to the US boards, KesselZero!

I've seen you over on the K&KA boards as well. I'm a 1st level Grognard myself and am really reading up on all the great stuff over there and getting some proper inspirational ideas. Ron is as prolific a recruiter as he is a DM, so you come with excellent references! :D

As for being new to the PbP, yeah, this is indeed a great spot to get acclimated. Folks here are very helpful and generous, a truly good lot all the way around. The Unseenservant boards have been growing as of late, and I really feel the quality of the members here is Top Drawer, so your timing is good! I'd go out on a limb to say that one of the fine DMs here will probably hook you up soon. ;)

I'd be happy to put you on the waiting list for my OSRIC/1E homebrew, right behind Computer +1. Although I just fired things up last month, I've already been toying with the idea of introducing a few more characters at some time in the not too distant future, or perhaps even starting a 2nd group. You never quite know! 8-)

Cheers and welcome again!

It's looking like my campaign has a character you could take over if you haven't found something else. Post here or PM me if you're interested. Here's the character and you're welcome to read through the campaign if you'd like:
