Macros on the US Dice Roller

#1 Post by Alethan »

ToniXX,

Is there currently any logic (as in programming logic) to how the macros are listed under a given character? It doesn't appear to be, and it doesn't seem to matter in what order I add them, they display in some other order. And that order isn't alpha.

Would there be any way to make the macros under each individual character display in some order, like either order entered or alphabetically?

It isn't a big deal, really... unless you're OCD.

But I thought I'd ask.

Thanks,

Al

I just looked at the code and I see that yes, there is no rhyme or reason as to how they are displayed, but I've changed it to show macros under each character in alpha order (easy fix). I've toyed with (and someone suggested) letting the user sort their macros as they want, but that would involve a few hours of coding that I don't have at the moment.

Yeah, I figured an alpha order would be easy enough to do. I can work with that.

Thanks!

Love the "dialog" function in posts as well!

Great stuff!!!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

'dialog' test.

Agreed. I'm sure Alethan will agree when I say it'll be nice to have a uniform standard for how players and characters enter their actions. All typed words meant to be stated out of character use the 'ooc' tag. All typed words meant to reflect a character actually speaking said words will use the 'dialog' tag. I'm just now noticing a few other available tags that I haven't played with yet and will have to.
'quote' test
'spoiler' test
'strike' test

Again, nice work.

Yeah, I don't know how useful the 'spoiler' one is, but I'm sure someone will find a use for it :)

I like the idea of standards as well. I personally like the way Ron posts his DM entries in the 'Legacy' and 'Slavers' games. When skimming the thread, I can quickly recognize Ron's entries, making it easier to jog my memory. I'm going to use something like that for my DM posts in 'Newiron'.

There's another new tag called 'imgurl='. That's useful for quickly embedding images that you have hosted at another location, like flicker or other image hosts.
Here's an example, with the square brackets replaced by parenthesis so it will show correctly.

(imgurl=http://www.unseenservant.com) http://www.unseenservant.us/images/banner_dice_roller.png (/imgurl)

The first link, shown in red, is where the user will go when he clicks the image, and the second one, in green, is the address pointing to the image that will be shown in the post.

Here's how it would look... click the picture

It's funny. Maybe I didn't consider the usefulness factor, but I sitll think it's a pretty cool tag with a neat affect. Maybe not as effective as a PM (since I'm guessing anyone would be able to expand it), but still cool.

I agree with you completely here. Ron clearly has his act together and I consider myself very fortunate to find myself involved in his game for my first play-by-post attempt. I hope to pick up some very good habits as a result for if/when I attempt to run my own game.

I just noticed a new campaign was posted. Good luck with that! :)

I noticed that, too. I can see how that could be very helpful as a DM tool... posting various maps and what have you.

I'm really impressed with this site and look forward to getting even more involved now that I've gotten my feet wet.
