Chapter 05: The depths of despair

Norbold Ernessaeia [Sylvanian Elf Cleric: Scale Mail AC 6 : 4 / 4 HP]:
Searching for Secret Door:
North wall [1d6] = 4 East Wall [1d6] = 1 South Wall [1d6] = 3 West Wall [1d6] = 1
Ceiling [1d6] = 1 Floor [1d6] = 4

Re: Chapter 05: The depths of despair
Jacob positively determines that there are no traps or secret compartments on/in the statue and the surrounding base and walls. In the process, he accumulates quite a lot of dried egg under his fingernails. Yum!
<krrunch> Korin's heavy boot causes an ugly dent in the base - which looks like made out of some sandstone-type of material - but fails to make any real damage, not to mention kicking it over. The whole sculpted unit is too big and too heavy, even for a mighty dwarf foot. However, several broken egg shells are pulverized under his soles.
Ox and Norbold apply their combined elven senses and reach the same conclusion: that there are no secret doors along the walls, floor or ceiling.
Ox' memory is correct, the goblins did run in here, through the same passage the group entered. Ox also considers it not entirely impossible that the goblins then continued running, e g down the opposite narrow passage.

Korin "Eh well enough of that thing lets go elsewhere down a different passage maybe?"

Jacob holds his torch aloft and heads down the corridor with the rest of the group.

Re: Chapter 05: The depths of despair
The group, a bit frustrated, proceeds to leave the statue room via the opposite passage. It's a short, narrow corridor, with puddles on the floor. A few fangs and teeth that the zombie cleaner missed are scattered around, too.
Immediately, another closed door shows up in the torchlight.
It is quite quiet.

Re: Chapter 05: The depths of despair
In the very narrow passage, Korin (3rd in line) impatiently pushes past Jacob (2nd in line) and Norbold (1st in line) and opens the door in one move (not noticing that his axe gets caught in Jacob's cloak). Korin's push brings Norbold out of balance exactly at the same time as Korin lowers the door handle; in the split second that Korin feels the door open (away from him), Norbold claws in vain after the (now open door) for support, falls to the left over Korin, who drags with him Jacob and they all topple forwards into the room,
--- and
------ tumble
---------- down
Ox sees his three friends (and the lit torch) disappear downwards beyond the door opening. He hears <thump><oof!> and other muffled sounds of angry surprise! (it didn't sound like they fell far, though)
There is silence for a second or two. A voice, peculiarly clear and almost cultured, but still oddly unpleasant, calmly says, in perfect common:
"Ah, yes....we've been expecting you".

Re: Chapter 05: The depths of despair
Jacob groans a bit, trying to untangle himself and raise to his feet. He keeps his hood up and his fingers twitching for his hidden blade as he waits for the unseen man to answer Korin's question.
