For our first combo/dynamic duo, I was thinking that Mr. Kent and I might work on some sort of a team that has complimentary powers, perhaps even an elementalist set (fire and ice, light and darkness, etc.).

These are, of course, early thoughts. I am totally amenable to all sorts of ideas.

If we elect not to go the route of duo and are, instead, two random guys who happen to be fighting crime in the same place at the same time, I can go ahead and start working on my persona.

Duo works for me! Elemental would be cool, or even like you said with complementary powers, like a brick and a flyer/blaster type. What sort of character did you have in mind, personality-wise?

You could even do a split, one registered and one not--there could be interesting dynamics to be mined.

I'll post a template for an easy character sheet to use in the characters thread--you can make your own posts there--and set up a dice roller campaign in a few minutes.

If I go with a Registered hero, I'm thinking of two possible roles:

The gloryhound, celebrity wannabe. Some see registration as "selling out", he sees it as "making it big". Like an indie artist signing to a major label, the gloryhound intends to reap the full benefits of his new connections for maximum effect.

The social worker and self-appointed savior. The social worker wants to bring the unregistered in from the cold. It's bad out there for loners, and the unregistered just don't realize how much better they could have it if they only sign on the dotted line.

Nice, I like both of those ideas and see lots of interesting story directions.

I'm very intrigued about the month time system. I suggested something similar over on rpg.net--I was thinking of using the AMP: Year One system, which is supposed to take place in the first year of a burgeoning super's career. And I asked, hey, what if we did a roughly realtime Year One? The idea didn't get much traction, but I liked it

Oh, that's interesting! I like the idea too. I'm not sure if the will work out to be realtime or even close to it, but it feels necessary to me. Supers comics really benefit in my mind from being serialized, with clear breaking points and a somewhat consistent structure.

So which are you leaning more toward, the registered or the independent?

I think I'm going with the registered sell-out. As I was falling asleep last night I decided on Marco Rey, aka HEATSEEKER

So what does Mr. Ray "do," exactly? With a name like Heatseeker, ideas come to mind, but I don't want to jump to conclusions.

His Danger Sense ability is where he gets his name, but he also possesses Empathy and Daredevil-like Heightened Agility.

Sounds like a lot of flash without having to depend on fancy lens flare effects!

One question: did you reduce TWO abilities to add the extra discretionary point in? If not, please adjust--it's a two-for-one deal!

Edit: Okay, I meant to also lower Force to 2. So I think it's good now!

Also, it looks like you shortchanged yourself on Health--should be Fighting (4), Endurance (2) and Focus (5) combined for 11!

What about a character inspired by the X-Men icon, Blink, who has control over Dimensional Travel to some extent or another - the ability to "leap" across it quickly and bring people with him. He also has the ability to "push," erm, 'undesirables' (*cough, cough*) back through a portal that he opens behind them.

I am thinking that the plane/dimension isn't kind, but I haven't exactly come up with what it is - or where (or when). It does have the ability to 'harm' people who linger there too long, though. Again, I am totally open to discussion and refinement.

I am thinking that he also will be able to do something else, but 'portal hopping' is a pretty good start!
