The Green Storm (Villian Arc)

#1 Post by Rukellian »

The city's media giants are exploding right now with their latest discovery. The story revolving around the world-wide corporation hack that took place against Poseidon Electronics has been released, much to the disdain of many top corporate leaders. Stock values have plummeted as Poseidon Electronics trade secrets, product manufacturing information and customer financial accounts have all been compromised. It is safe to say that almost nothing is kept secret now as the the leading technology manufacturer's reputation and financial status violently collapses. To those who will still here them out, Poseidon Electronics is holding a press conference in Atlas City that will be broadcast live for the whole world to see. Tough questions will be asked, and the public will demand some answers, some sort of recompense for their losses.

In other news, Rook Industries claims that they were also attacked by what they believe to be the same group that hacked Poseidon Electronics. They were prepared for the attack though and managed to limit the damage done them. Rook Industries admits that some of their civilian branches have been compromised, but reassures everyone that any account information that was compromised can be easily replaced and tracked for future usage by the hacking party. Rook Industries clients are safe and the company plans on continuing their day-to-day operations as scheduled.

The public has only been told so much though... The Eye, after recovering from their minor victory against Rook Industries, makes tabs and does a thorough analysis on everything that was dug up during the hack. The millions of customer accounts that were obtained through both major corporations prove most valuable, as well as the product and technology patents and plans that were obtained during the deeper hacks. Though the Eye was not able to obtain some of the corporations' deeper secrets, what they did unveil will prove to be just as juicy.

In particular, the organization of hackers learned that Poseidon Electronics has been working closely with Chiron Pharmaceuticals these past few years, in what they call operation Life Link. Using state of the art quantum teleportation technologies, the two corporations were going to work together to revolutionize medicine and hospitals as everyone knew it. Project Life Link, was still in the testing stages, but proved that if a microchip was embedded into a person's body, they could link that person to a Life Link resuscitation unit. After a link has been established, the person could be teleported to the unit at a moment's notice if serious trauma or damage to the body occurs, effectively replacing the currently out-of-date ambulance system that people have been relying on for years. The real kicker though is that the project explicitly said that the service would only be available to supers and the those who could afford the incredibly expensive process. The majority of Earth's population would be left out of this medical miracle.

Poseidon Electronics and their Project Life Link aside, Rook Industries also yielded some interesting information as well. They have advanced quantum teleporation to dangerous levels and managed to produce some highly experimental equipment using what they called the Blink Engine. This Blink Engine is effectively the same as the Life Link system by Poseidon Electronics, but geared more towards security and military use. Not much information was found on this though, only some surface details talking about its usage. The Eye did score some armament data though, allowing those who are skilled in gadgetry and engineering to work their own magic.

Overall, it was a solid victory for The Eye, all things considered. The veterans of the group though are still wary of what they may have set in motion for the near future. Rook Industries was a deadly opponent to be sure, and most of the top dogs get the feeling that some of their accounts may been compromised as well, all shortly after the data fortress was breached. What is really unnerving though is the fact that they lost all contact with Cowboy. It is only a matter of time before something breaks.... but who will be the one to break and when?

-----

The villianous crew: Hotstreak, Laughing Genocide, Vorpal and his men all set out in search of a new place of operations. Cowboy has reassured them that he has a means of debilitating and potentially capturing an ASF station in the Industrial Sector, but the group has not heard from him in some time. With a truck load of loot and supplies ready to go, the group splits in search of a new home and things to do. HotStreak told LG of a group of mutated fanatic cultists that looked like a street-gang hopped up on cybernetics and something else. He tells him where he first spotted them, and allows LG to go do his own thing from there.
"...I have scored enough 55 gallon drums, fertilizer, diesel fuel and electronic detonators to build some serious bombs. The question becomes where to leave our gift."
Where did you guys want to take up shop? You have the resources right now to make almost anything possible if done through force and cunning. I just need a general idea of what you all want to do next so that I can provide the necessary plot movers. It is early in the morning, the day after Hot Streak and Vorpal arrived in Atlas City via teleporation. The sun is rising and the warehouse is not smelling all that great, people will start to notice.

Genocide decides that while moving is great fun, mutated play mates are more fun. He heads off down the back alley city streets, laughing all the while and humming what might be a children's song. He makes his way to where Hot Streak said the last sighting was. As he makes his way there cloaks himself, blending in with whatever is near him.

If he finds any bums or other stragglers traveling the alleys alone he will play with them, as an appetizer for what may come.

Genocide wouldn't care where the bombs were placed, he isn't much of a bomb or gadget person. More so a feral creature that moves on instinct.

Cowboy slowly wakes up. His head is throbbing. The lights are too d*mn bright.
"Dim lights to 20%." he croaks. His throat is so dry, and those lights are still too d*mn bright.
He squeezes his eyes shut.
"Dim lights to 10%."
Better. The fan still sounds like helicopter blade.

Cowboy manages to sit up. His face feels funny. He reaches up his hand and feels wet. He looks at his hand a sees blood.
Staggering to the mirror to look, Cowboy has a bloody nose. He pops a few aspirin and swallows them dry, then grabs a wet towel to apply pressure to stop the bleeding.
He sips down an energy drink ... it hurts too much to drink fast. H*ll, it hurts just to think.

After a few minutes the bleeding stops and his headache is down to merely throbbing.
What the h*ll happened?
Cowboy goes back to the video link from his last mission.
Playing backwards from the point where the screen goes blank, he spots something. Through his muppet eyes there was a flash reflected in the corner of the screen.
Cowboy pauses the image and runs an enhancement algorithm that interpolates between frames to enhance resolution.
Cowboy can't make out the face ... too distorted ... but he can identify the event.
"That b*stard shot me in the back of the head." he whispers.

Cowboy smiles "I told them they shouldn't do that ... it only pisses me off."
Cowboy flops into a hammock chair and begins swinging. The pressure of the chair calms him down. Helps him concentrate.
"So be it. Time to take the gloves off and get a little bloody. You want to play rough, we can play rough."

Cowboy runs a complete scan and hardware test on his whole system. He needs to know if anything was damaged.
Everything checks out 100% operational. Even his head is starting to feel better.

Cowboy powers up and jacks in. He needs to know how things turned out.

Cowboy enters Voodoo's and seeks out familiar faces.
A deep sigh of relief as members of the Eye appear safe.
They update Cowboy on the data recovered ... and the breach of the data fortress.
Cowboy relates to them that the Rook tried to kill him, but just really pissed him off.
Cowboy didn't draw first blood, but he will make damn sure that when the dust settled, The Eye is the one still standing.
This isn't over ... just time to fall back and regroup before the next big push.
"Take the data and use it. Upgrade hardware and software. Strengthen our position. Our people. Next time we make a run on Rook, it is they who will feel our sting."

Cowboy has some plans and preparations to make.
A small war to wage against the ASF.

Since it is a new day, Cowboy will make another attempt to locate a new base camp for his violent super 'friends' ... Nothing spectacular, but it will do for now.

Image
The subject property is an 11,664-square foot industrial warehouse on 17,424 square feet of land.
The subject property is located in the Industrial Sector with 250 feet of street frontage.
The property is divisible into two legal units that are connected by a hallway.
The first unit offers 2000 SF of renovated office space as well as 2864 SF of warehouse space;
the second unit contains 6,800 SF of open warehouse space.
$9900 per month rents both units ... Cowboy sets up an adequate cover account to fund the rental (nothing that will stand up to close inspection by the police, but good enough until we are ready to make a move and go on the offensive) and pays for three months rent on a 1 year lease.
Cowboy texts the address to Hot Streak, Vorpal and Laughing Genocide.

Hot Streak transfers all his "theme music" to several of the "dummy phones" and keeps most of them in a place easy for swapping out. Sees to Vorpal and his men. "Vorp old pal how do your men fair? Today feels like a good day to move on provide they are strong enough to do so." he then gets the text from Cowboy "Well looks like we have a new base if you want to head off with your men and whatever remains of that truck and supplies or better yet might want to take a different vehicle if you have any and I would suggest leave that box of fancy chocolates I suspect that was or the truck was set with a tracker that is why the b'tards found us so quickly. I'm going to go see about those men that look a bit like Sym and see what remains of them after Lg has met em. I will meet you at the address Cowboy just sent us all." Hot streak then super speeds off to the location of the strange cult of sewer mutants to see if LG is there or has been there and to see what remains of them.

I'm waitin for the heroes to play catch up on their end before I continue this one. The events that are taking place with LG and the mutant sewer cult may also involve the heroes, based on their decisions of course. This all takes place during the night and into the early morning, those hours.

Laughing Genocide takes to streets in search of the new play toys that was described to him. With his superspeed, it does not take long for him to enter what appears to be a street gang warzone. Buildings are in ruins and piles of wrecked vehicles are all around and on fire. Gunfire in the distance can be heard as well as explosions. Death and mayhem seeps the air with its sulfuric smell and Laughing Genocide cannot help but feel a bit giddy.

Hot Streak appears behind LG shortly after stumbling upon this area and a similar grin of excitement can be found on his face. Hot Streak points to a group of people in the far distance and tells LG that those are a few of the mutants he was referring to.

Vorpal also heads in the same direction as LG and Hot Streak after giving his thugs orders to move to a location Cowboy describes to them. "I couldn't let the two of you have all the fun now could I?"

Hot Streak "Well I did not lie LG there are our new play things awaiting out entrance. Shall we?" he smiles with a wicked look in his eyes.

Genocide looks out over the mayhem, his twisted grin almost splitting his face, "I wonder how much fun they'll be, heehee"

With that he then begins heading towards it all, his hands in his pockets as he begins whistling a merry childs tune that just turns out creepy coming from him. As he walks he begins to meld into his surroundings, that whistling tune still going.

Hot Streak, Vorpal, actions? Or will you be staying where you are and watching to see what happens? If its the latter, I will respond to the failed chameleon and whistling accordingly

Cowboy, your character left off with a plan on raiding an ASF station to set an example. You have some supplies but not quite as much as you'd like. You have learned of various storehouses scattered throughout the industrial sector that could serve your purposes, if you could get your hands on them that is. Though the ASF has taken some blows in their forces, security is still tight in some areas and you will need some cunning strategy or a lot of manpower to crack the defenses, perhaps both. You can also run the chance of taking matters into your own hands and do some old fashioned hacking along the side, disabling cameras, laser fenceworks, poison ventilation systems, ect.

So far you have only Vorpal's men at your disposal, and they have proven quite resilient and formidable when under good leadership, but they are only a scant few in numbers now, 30 if you count the wounded. 17 of them are proficient in operating heavy machinery and vehicles. Of the 30 remaining men, 23 are in good fighting condition, the other 7 still needing time to recover. 19 of the men managed to grab a concealable gun on the way out of their old warehouse. 4 of the men have natural leadership ability and can lead small groups of others if need be.

[1d100] = 56 Roll to determine those with skill in machines
[1d100] = 75 Roll to determine those who are in good health currently
[1d100] = 62 Roll to determine those who are armed with concealable guns
[1d100] = 41 Roll divided by 10, result being those who can lead others

During your time at Voodoo's, the members of the Eye, or at least the highest ranking officers that get to speak with you personally, brought to your attention an interesting applicant. Someone going by the name of Firewall Override is asking to join the ranks of the Eye. As per rules in the shadowy hacker organization, if someone wanted to join the Eye directly, he/she would need to challenge and best two level 30+ officers as well as the leader of the organization in one-on-one hacking sessions. The terms of the challenge is determined by the person being challenged. Two of your best hackers were just defeated by him and he is now seeking to challenge the legendary 'Cowboy'.

Your officers share a few comments with you before you confront the individual. "This guy's got some serious skillz man! He must have one hell of a machine to trash my Quantos HexFire Engine. It's going to take at least a week to get that baby back up and running, UGHH!!"

Your second in command is more calm and collected as she recounts her match with Firewall Override. "I haven't seen anyone with this much raw hacking ability since you entered the scene Cowboy. To say he is a professional is an understatement. I managed to break through only a few of his walls before he totaled my 8 layer grid. The way he attacks and defends, its... different. Whatever you do, DO NOT give him any openings. I thought all my doors were shut, but he still found a way in, and you know how tight I keep them locked."

As she finishes her report, she describes to you what he looks like and points you towards the virtual bar area. Sure enough, he is sitting there, with a Monster XLR drink in one hand and another around a sexy looking virtual sprite. Wearing a series of reflective metal panels woven onto a black jumpsuit, complete with flared silver gloves and boots, he looks like something straight out of a retro comic, the typical rich super look. With his hair slicked back and his pearly whites flashing, he sits with one leg crossed over the over and leans back, staring right at you.

I am generally happy to advance Cowboy's plan ... and your setup is exciting ...

... But from a role playing perspective, Cowboy has been in non-stop action for the previous day and all through the night. Cowboy even 'died' during that period.

I'm not bailing out, but I think that Cowboy needs to get some sleep and pick up around noon.
So I'm just letting you know that Cowboy will be giving the others a chance to thump mutants ...
... and then be back with a vengeance. ;)

Hot Streak "Be sure to stay off to one side so i don't accidentally roast you LG." once Hot Streak knows what side LG plans to take he will send a fire blast or fire ball at one side of the group of mutants. "To save face LG you take the right I'll roast the left."

Init[1d100 +6] = 35+6 = 41
Fire Blast [1d100] = 30

Vorpal waits for the flames to die down and charges into the fray on the left side attempting a charging impalement on the first mutant he runs into that is not HS or LG.

Sword Arm [1d100] = 96

LG's failed chameleon attempt, coupled with his creepy whistling, alerts the mutant thugs to his presence. They laugh like hyenas as one of them flings out a gun and fires a couple of wild shots towards LG's direction. One of them hits for 15 points of damage. Two other thugs start to pull out their swords and prepare to charge, but they are intercepted by a fireball from the left. The fire causes lots of pain but does not bring them down. One of them continues to charge at LG while lit on fire. Vorpal intercepts the flaming charger with a sword arm impale to the stomach. With a wrench and pull, Vorpal drops the thug and jerks his arm to the ground to help throw some of the blood off. "They may look like freaks, but they die just like everyone else!"

Actions and rolls please! Keep it up ;)

Vorpal shakes the dying mutant thing from his sword arm and and slices at the next one in line aiming to takes it's head.

"They look like Syn but they died far too easily. I won't even work up a sweat." he shouts back to HS and LG.

Hot Streak smiles when he hears Vorpals words "Extra Crispy coming right up!" and Hot streak moves to a better vantage point and shoots a jet of flame like a flame thrower in a controlled burst at some more of the mutant cult.

Laughing Genocide begins to cackle, his eyes wide as he begins running to the right side, "The pain is fun! it's time to run! Let us play a game! I shall see who is to blame! HAHAHAHA!!!!" He begins to claok once more, blending into the surroundings, using his super speed before flanking the mutants attacking them by kicking the first one down and then attempting to rip out it's throat and remove it's mutant arm, intent on using it as a club.

Vorpal and Hot Streak starts to work on their next targets with relative ease, but not without getting hurt. The thug that is lit on fire and turned into crisp manages to land a sword strike onto Hot Streak before falling, dealing 10 points of damage. Laughing Genocide tries to kick his stationary target down but misses as he dodges another bullet aimed at him. With the thug stumbling onto the ground to get away, LG proceeds in trying rip the thug's throat out. He badly chokes and guy and almost snaps his neck, but does not tear the throat out. The thugs arm proves less successful in pulling apart and just hangs dislocated. Suffice to say, the thug is having a bad day now, if anything. The struggle between LG and the thug sent a straight gunshot towards Vorpal as he finishes his opponent. The gun deals 15 points of damage.

Hot Streak, please roll an awareness check.

Combat results: hot streak takes 10 points of damage, Vorpal 15. Two more thugs die, and another is on the verge of death, practically begging for it now. Everyone but LG won initiative, villians went last.

Actions and rolls please!

With the mutant now on the verge of death LG simply giggles to himself before ending it's life with a boot to the face, crushing the skull.

Action Roll: [1d100] = 8 - What....

Afterwards LG decides to run towards the remaining mutants, going into a flurry of insane giggling and martial attacks, kicking out kneecaps and tearing out any throats he can get his hands on.

Fast Attack 30, Melee 40, Damage 130: Initiative: [1d100+10] = 37+10 = 47, To-Hit: [1d100] = 12, [1d100] = 1, [1d100] = 84 - LG's rolls are freaking terrible... the long break obviously wasn't good for him.
Life is a roller coaster, if you don't stop to enjoy it then you may as well not even ride.
