Chapter 1: The Inheritance (Introduction)

#1 Post by PyroArrow »

And So It Begins!

Gildas Trahern has passed away.

Although you have not seen this great wizard in more than two years, his mark on your life is indelible.

It was with great sorrow that you received the special invitation to his funeral.

The message demanded that you make haste to Caer Brennau as you are a beneficiary of Gildas’s vast estate.

Your travel into Caer Brennau was uneventful, giving you time to think on your past with the deceased.

The instructions accompanying the obituary indicate that Berenion Galithil, an elven adventurer,

is the executor of the estate, and that he has made arrangements for your stay in Gildas’s manse and adjoining tower.

You arrive just in time, and after stowing your belongings in the guest quarters and changing into

suitable clothes, you make your way to the nearby temple.

The High Priest of Seren, the patron of the departed mage, conducts the burial ceremony.

The Funeral & it's Wake was a simple but elegant affair.

Following the ceremony you are ushered in to a private room in Gildas’s tower for the
reading of the will.

You are one of nine seated in the room.

==============================

Let us begin at the Wake, in a banquet hall in Gildas' Manse.

It is here that you can describe you characters & their backgrounds to one another.

Berennion Galithil will arrive at the Wake about 45 minutes after the Players.

You will all be seated at the same table in the banquet hall.

Also of Note, the Obit/wake/will reading invitation would mention for you to bring the invitation back with you as it will identify you as the beneficiary mentioned on the note.

After that, then we will proceed with the reading of Gildas Trahern's Will!

Elusev Coldharbor:

Elusev sits in the chair he was pointed to, his black hair tied into a ponytail and softly resting against the back of the chair, he posture boasts one of high ranking stature or at least one that has undergone some formal training. His back is straight, showing his broad shoulders, while his head is held high. His eyes scanning the rest of the gathered party.

Arn the Congealer:

The white-beige-khaki-clad Arn the Congealer strides, slowly, wilfully yet in no way attention-seekingly into the centre of the room, removes his dusty snow white helmet, pans the whole scene slowly, 360 degrees around, with a friendly smile and nod of greeting to all seated, then finds his place, adjusts his cloak and sabretache and sits down - all the while maintaining a friendly facial expression. His armour looks a bit dented; his cloak shows some darker patches, and mended gashes.

"Hail, good strangers - I am Arn"

Elusev Coldharbor:

Elusev nods towards Arn before responding, his voice hearty and well controlled. It rings out among the room with an air of authority, "Well met Arn. I am Elusev Coldharbor, Formerly of the Elven noble houses."

The Doctor:

The Doctor a younger looking fellow normally in a traditional mage robe but today in a suit brown hair sticking up a bit wanders into the room,

"Ah well I see there are nine of us. I guess there were more folks who's lives were changed from knowing the man. Ah well hello everyone I am known as The Doctor."

"Nice to see you all even if it is due to a sad event."

The Doctor then takes a seat along with the others.

Procyon:

A man with a dark formal attire walked into the banquet hall, a man with a tousled, curly hair; taking a mental note of the inhabitants of the hall, he slightly bowed his head to each inhabitants and sat down on an unoccupied chair. He sat attentively, actively waiting for Galithil's arrival. He toyed with his mysterious instrument within his hand.
How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, ’n’ how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, ’n’ how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind

Cayley:

A young woman enters and takes a quick scan of the room. She is barefoot, wearing a simple black dress, with her auburn hair tied in a bun though a few strands have escaped.

"Is this the...um...gathering for Gildas Trahern?"

Assuming someone answers in the affirmative, she sighs, "Good, well um...not actually good...but...you know. I thought I was late...well, not late like Gildas."

She blushes gives a weak smile and takes a seat. She brushes a strand of hair out of her eyes,

"Oh, Caley, at your service."

Way to make a good impression girl. Well its not like you'll ever see these people after this.

The character sheet is still a work in progress.

Elusev Coldharbor:

Elusev nods to each person entering the room, taking a moment to stand and give a short bow to Caley as is respectful before returning to his seat.

His eyes and body language continue to portray an air of authority and power as he scans the other guests.

Procyon:

All these people knew Trahern personally? Procyon wondered. The nine people that will be presented shortly would have had some sort of impact on their lives by Trahern himself.
He was gladdened at heart to know that Trahern considered him(Procyon) to be one of the only nine people within this world to have personal relation with, as young as he(Procyon) was.

That knowledge held much more value and merit within his heart more than any of Trahern's personal possessions that would likely be included within his will.

The proud, noble Fighter, the jovial and courageous Paladin, a wizard, who by a glance Procyon could tell was an enigma by himself, a young (Cleric?) that held herself respectably - The Great Magnus knew all these people personally.

He did wonder, did any of them knew Gildas as personally as himself? Or even more?

The Doctor:

Doesn't stand back up but nods in a bow to each as they enter and introduce themselves and does so even if they just silently enter. "How interesting are these invites I love the calligraphy."

Tuireann:

A man wearing a long simple linen robe brushes the floor as he enters the room. The scent of lavender wafts through the air as he passes.
His hood is down to reveal a young man with short black hair and a somber face. In his right hand he grips a rolled up parchment which clearly shows a broken seal of red wax.

He gives a nod of acknowledgment and a mourner's half smile to those already in the room. The young man gingerly takes his seat, giving away his bare feet that had laid hidden under his robes.
He sits in silence and shuts his eye as if in deep thought or prayer.

Please Morrigan grant me the strength to see this through. I am just your humble mortal servant on this plane of existence. Grant me this and next time I will not omit my Earthborn frailty and visit the privy before I engage in such a long affair.

The young man shifts in his seat a few times before settling down and opening his eyes.

Procyon:

How Ironic, Procyon thought, that the one named Doctor was not the Cleric, but a Wizard instead.

"I know a wizard going by the name Doctor makes little sense I am no physician but a man of science and magic!"

...And apparently he can read minds. Pretty impressive for level 1 mage.

But seriously I was like "wut"

Dungeon Master:

As the mourners chat with each other, Gildas' servants bring beverages & plates of food for them.

You all notice other tables with Gildas' servants & guards & local town officials & a few townsfolks.

As he munched on sausages, cheese, and bread and drinking ginger ales with great gusto, Procyon observed other townsfolk around them, wondering if they were also involved with the part of the will.
