I6: Ravenloft! [CLOSED]

#1 Post by Zhym »

I saw that there was some talk about I6 earlier this year, but it focused mostly on how to deal with the maps on PbP. I have a more basic question: how many people on the U.S. forums haven't played it and would be interested? Or is there a consensus that it's not well suited to PbP?

I've played it, and really enjoyed the slaughter. :)
But I think anything is good in PbP, just some things take more work than others.
The things that would play good in PbP easier than real life, would be the maps and the timeline aspects of the game.
I think this would fantastic in PbP.
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Great! Sounds like there's enough interest to do this. Computer +1, NJWilliam, Bouv, Grognardsw: you're all in. I'd like to get 2-4 more players.

For those who aren't familiar with it, Ravenloft is a gothic horror adventure commonly regarded as one of the best modules ever. It will be a fairly even mix of combat, strategy, role-playing, and puzzling.

Here are some more details, which I'll post in the forum once it's set up.

I'll be running it under OSRIC or AD&D 1e. Please let me know if you have a preference. All UA additions will be in play except the character classes unless I get a good argument the other way. If allowed, UA class restrictions will be played strictly (e.g., barbarians will not mix well with magic users). But the spells, weapons, etc. are available. Weapon specialization is available only for pure fighters (not rangers or paladins).

Roll up characters with 4d6, dropping the lowest, arranging as you like. If you want to play a class that's not available with your rolls, we'll figure something out. Players will start with 50,000 xp and any non-magic items from the normal shopping list. I'll roll up magic items on the DMG Appendix P tables, on the theory that the party obtained its magic items while adventuring and thus didn't get an opportunity to choose. Pick your armor and weapons and I'll tell you if they're magic (and how much so). If you want a "signature" magic item, we can negotiate.

I'd prefer a quick update pace: once per day if possible, but no slower than three times per week.

If you have any other questions, please let me know!

I just thought I'd post a reminder that I'm still looking for players for this module. We have five, and I'd love to get 1-3 more if possible. Even if you've played the module before, that's okay as long as you haven't played or read the module recently.

Reply here or pm me. Thanks!

Sorry, Zhym. You got your post in before I could approve Junglekat's.

Welcome to the forums, Junglekat! Just a quick reminder that all individuals need to register their own user ID. Probably didn't need to be said, but it has been a source of on fusion before, so it never hurts to say it again. ;)

Have fun! And please do ask if you have any forum questions.

Sure! I presume (especially from Alethan's message) that you and someone else want to play, not that you want to play two characters? ;)

I'll add you to the forum. I assume the other player will pipe up when an account is created.

How does a mute half-orc Assassin/Fighter sound like?

I'm guessing a mute assassin wouldn't make much sound at all. :)

Send me a pm and let's talk about your ideas for an assassin. I won't rule it out out of hand, but I'm a little wary of a class with an insta-kill table. And the assassin's other abilities honestly aren't likely to be that helpful in this module.

Hi Zhym, if you still have room then I'll throw my hat into the ring for another party character. What do you have so far and what level are we pitching the party at? I'll role up a fighter and go from there. cheers.

Fantastic! You're in.

The only addition to Bouv's list is that we should be getting a mage. If not, the party will really need one, but it also needs another fighter.

Players are starting wih 50,000 xp. I'm hoping for eight players total.
