001A Jump from Extolay to Jenghe (50-57/1085)

The ship transitions smoothly into Jump Space as Flighty and Donovan watch the sensors go blank on the Bridge.

Sigrun, manning the weapon systems also sees her sensors go blank and shuts everything down.

Zaki and Karsci are in the Commons waiting and know the ship has transitioned only by the twist in their guts...not so bad this time.

Back in Engineering, Doug nods as the jump drive kicks the ship out of N Space and can't help but smile as the gauges and tell tells on his control panel all remain a bright green. He'll need to switch power over to Jump Space standard and there is always maintenance to be done back here, but he should make his report to the Captain on the Bridge over the ship's intercom.

GM Reminder: You'll need to let me know what your PC's are training this week. If you are just continuing what you were working on tell me, if you are making changes to the skills/chars you're working tell me that. Oh, and, JR, Zaki has reached Sensors-0, are you continuing that training toward Sensors-1 or picking something else?

Sigrún continues to train (violently with axes) and to build her Endurance and Dexterity (with axes). If she can't run around the hold (because Donovan has quite unreasonably filled her training area with cargo :roll: :D ) she makes herself parkour courses through and around the cargo matched to variable gravities.

She will spend time with Zaki and spar with Karcsi (spear vs axe and variations thereon).

(OOC: So more of the same really :) ).

Because Flighty is now getting far too familiar with being hunted Sigrún will (much to everyone's delight - not! :P ) occasionally pursue him through ship spaces where she has turned the gravity off (which she claims adds realism and variety) but is actually like one of those nightmares where, despite desperately trying to escape an apex predator, an individual's personal locomotion is compromised...

"Engineering, rig for normal space and we'll head in," Flighty said to Doug over the intercom.

He'll look to see what kind of traffic is in the system and not if anything stands out.

Doug smiles at the gauges and flips open the comm channel to the bridge "Engineering to bridge. All systems nominal. Switching power over to Jump space standard. Gonna get a start on the maintenance.
Doug then pulls up the maintenance schedule and scrolls down to the next task. M Drive switching calibration. He then gets his tools and starts checking systems.

Doug will continue with his current training.

Donovan will continue working with general melee to improve his axe skill. He will also work out to improve his physique.

Training.

JR you just completed Sensors-0, so I do need an answer to whether you are shifting your skill training away from Sensors or continuing to Sensors-1.

Everyone else is continuing with what they were working on, if I have that right.


Here's the Training results (if you haven't given me rolls, I'll do it)...

Donovan: 3 successes! STR 7 6/6, END 8 6/6, Melee-1 (AXE) 4/4 so END-9 & STR-8 & Melee(AXE)-1 now complete
Karcsi: 2 successes completing AXE-1 failed on STR; so Axe-1 complete STR 2/6 & END 2/6
Flighty: 3 successes; so Axe-1 3/4, DEX-9 3/6, Str-10 2/6
Sigrun: success on Dex & End, but (believe it or not) no on Axe!; so Dex-12 complete, End-8 5/6 & Axe-2 5/8
Zaki: success on Str & End, but failed on skill (but I still want to know if you're training one); so Str-6 complete, End-8 5/6, still need to know about skill
Doug: (I kept them the same and rolled) Dex failed, Str & Electronics succeeded; so Dex-9 2/6, Str-8 3/6, Electronics-2 2/8

This week in Jump...

The "hot tub" gets finished and the crew begins to make use of it. Several of the crew continue to run around the ship, mostly the cargo spaces but not entirely, chasing each other with boarding axes. Zaki continues to be found grunting and groaning as she works out whenever she isn't doing her job...nothing much for the Medic to do other than to occasionally check the low berths and then later she treats a minor injury.

Flighty is awakened by another dream about halfway through the jump. He is running and running but something big and dark is chasing him. He knows he'll be safe if he can make it to....he just can't remember exactly where that is! He thinks this is another vision, rather than just a bad dream, not sure but he feels like whoever was chasing them is still chasing them.

Karsci and Donovan help Doug in Engineering doing maintenance work. The three of them get the maintenance done faster than expected and have a good bit of free time at the end of the week.

Although Karsci has no, zip, nada experience with such work he seems to pick it up instinctively being able to anticipate exactly what tool or instrument he needs to hand Doug as they work. This seems to happen mostly when he is working with Doug. When he is given a task to do on his own or with Donovan, he barely better than a complete noob! (Engineering-0 when working with Doug, -2 DM working with Donovan & -3 DM when working alone) It seems to Doug that Karcsi has a talent for Engineering that could be developed.

Donovan takes on the task of crawling through the "jeffery tubes" between decks to check the various connections of the modules for gravity and life support located in them. It is slow and somewhat tedious work, but well within Donovan's wheelhouse. He gets stuck on one connection, though. There is corrosion on a contact point and the nut holing a bolt in place refuses to release! No matter how hard he turns the wrench it refuses to move, getting more and more frustrated Donovan feels his face heat up and he "sees red" suddenly the nut pops free with a squeal and hits him on the arm leaving a burn. The nut is glowing hot, the bolt is smoldering, and the corrosion that was around it is completely gone. That burn is going to need some treatment!

Sigrún declares "Jenghe is mid tech, low law - we can buy sidearms!"

She also asks "Are we looking to hire Doug some help in Engineering?"

(OOC: This got raised in a historical thread but in view of Karsci's new calling may be a moot point! ;) :) )

In her sessions with Karsci Sigrún (with Axe 2 stable if not yet achieved) now introduces Axe and Pistol against Rifle and Bayonet/Spear. What they're doing now can't be described as "sport" anymore and even "sparring" might be generous.

Donovan sits alone in the Jeffries tube and thinks as his temper cools off. What happened with the bolt was completely unexplainable except in terms of the psionic abilities they seem to have gained from the artifact. It seemed his specialty will be around metals although the details are still fuzzy. Finding a psionic Institute for the group might not be a bad idea to stabilize things but that would bear some evaluation and later discussion. Meanwhile he packed up his tools and headed for the sick bay. "Zaki, I have a pretty bad burn from a hot nut. Can you patch me up please?"

Good, good, good, good vibrations He suddenly stops and looks at them Catchy little tune. Karsci why don't you help me in here and Donovan can be the Sunshine Superman crawling around the innards of the ship.

Karsci seems to notice Doug humming or tapping his foot they whole time they work.

As the week passes the singing (not too bad, but a little nasal), humming, thumping to rhythms, and the occasional actual music comes from Doug and his vicinity. It takes a bit to get used to it, but eventually even Sigrun...who has never shown any sort of love of music....has gotten one turn or another stuck in their head. Thankfully, the ear worms never seem to last long and, at least, the music is cheerful and catchy. You might even say spirit rising.

During the week Donovan reminded everyone that they need to rush to Regina to get the bonus from three low berth passengers. So, if you get to Jenghe on 057, then you can't stay on Jenghe for more than 5 days, 4 would be better, as 5 would cut almost all wiggle room out of the required arrival time on Regina.

The hot tub proves to be popular with the crew and even the axe wielding students seem to have more enjoyed themselves than spent a week running in pure terror from their maniac of an instructor.

So, it is with good moods that the crew prepares for emergence in the Jenghe system.

Flighty will pass on news of his dream and not remembering where he was running to. “Our pursuers are still back there, and with four warships, they aren’t someone we want to be caught by. We need to expedite our run and then leave a false trail while we jump to where we planned and leave no traces.”

We can work things so it appears that we are headed into Vargr territory. That would be a logical move to escape pursuit and dispose of the ship."

Flighty nodded. "I've been thinking about that, and once we hit Regina, I think I have a course that will get us where we need to go without being too visible. We'll need to see our cargo so we can use fuel bladders in the hold, but that gives us a 3 parsec range over two weeks (if Terry remembers correctly). From Regina, we head for Rech. It's low tech but has a gas giant. We refuel there and then jump out once the fuel is refined. Then off to Pirema and we have a similar setup and repeat the process. Gileden is 2 parsecs away from there and also is low tech with a gas giant. Then a 3 parsec run to Risek. Seven jumps, no contact with the main world, no transponder running to trace us. By the time we get to Risek and use a different Transponder code, we're 8 parsecs from Regina and as close to untraceable as we can make ourselves. Thoughts?"
